Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

I have found for at least 2 months that every weekly Sainsburys shop is effective in the way the OP describes. There are always ordinary items missing, often for weeks at a time. Use by dates are very short too.

ShortDaysLongNights · 17/10/2022 19:44

Maybe it's a regional thing?Did my weekly shop today and everything from my list was in stock (it was a big shop too). Didn't even have to go for any brand substitutions or anything..

I don't think we're all going to starve like the famines in African countries ffs. If you can't get it there you will be able to find it somewhere else.

If they only have a few in stock they would rather have it on the shelves so shelves look less bare. So they make it unavailable to online shoppers. It's not the end of the world. Get off your bum and go into the shops and look.

Nope can't find it elsewhere. I have looked for items at 4 supermarkets before giving up.
Nobody has said we will starve. But I do expect to be able to buy fairly ordinary food items.

Well obviously we do. Buy it is not how it used to be.

No. But nor is it cause for panic and doom when a tut, an eye roll and a change of menu would suffice.

DarthTater3 · 17/10/2022 20:38

I was quite happy with Tesco this week. No substitutions and nothing out of stock - just delivered everything I asked for. Thank you Tesco, keep it up! 👏🏼

antelopevalley · 17/10/2022 20:39

Who is panicking? Literally no one. But it should not be like this. I am fed up of not being able to guarantee that I can buy basic things when I go to the supermarket/

I've got one in my fridge from an independent greengrocer on the market. Cost me 30p I prefer to buy them lose. I don't use them often.

If this is about courgettes, please put up a photo of yours. The rest of us haven't seen one for so long that we've forgotten what they look like & would like to relive the good old days.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/10/2022 20:58

i have a courgette in my fridge <<preen>>>>>

i bought it in TEsco a week ago! chose it myself <<smug>>

I’m a member of a Facebook group re energy saving etc and people have been happily advocating hoarding supplies “just in case.” I think there are genuine problems with supplies but there are also people stockpiling things which is really selfish and very spring 2020!

DadBodAlready · 17/10/2022 21:42

Must be a regional thing, my local Lidl, Aldi, Waitrose and Morrisons all appear to be fully stocked. No empty shelves anyway

celticprincess · 17/10/2022 21:43

Struggled for a few months now on and off with soya milk in sainsburys. I get their own brand and the alpro if out of stock. Both out of stock for weeks in the fridge section. Even the long life was out of stock for a while. I’m not a fan of long life but it did for the missing weeks. There wasn’t a single soya fresh product in at one point. I don’t like the other dairy free alternatives either. Didn’t try the other supermarkets as it’s a big faff and I’ve tried other brands too and don’t especially like some of them.

Redglitter · 17/10/2022 21:44

My Tesco orders have been great recently no substitutions at all

My Mum uses Morrisons, they're hopeless at the moment. There's more out of stock than available

antelopevalley · 17/10/2022 21:57

I have given up looking for certain soya milk desserts. I can no longer get them where I live. A friend down south has no issue getting them.

grannyjacob · 17/10/2022 22:04

I get an onlineTesco order every second Sunday. When I went to finalise my order on Saturday night I couldn’t believe how many things were out of stock, including courgettes and cauliflower 😄 I substituted a few things, ordered a few things I’d never tried before.
Yesterday, I didn’t get thin bagels or a loaf from the Tesco bakery - out of stock. Got a yellow pepper instead of a red. Everything else was as ordered.

Mollymoostoo · 17/10/2022 22:32

You are booking a slot for 2-3 weeks time so of course they can't guarantee the stock levels. Seriously who shops that far ahead?

Who shops that far ahead? People who have signed up and paid for Tesco Delivery Saver, that's who. Halloween Confused

Runnerduck34 · 17/10/2022 23:12

Sainsbury is the same lots of gaps on shelves particularly for fresh produce.

With Delivery Saver I can book a slot 4 weeks ahead.

Any idea when their Xmas slots will become available?

mylifestory · 17/10/2022 23:50

I've noticed how my local tesco is stocked with fab really really fresh everything recently

containsnuts · 18/10/2022 05:23

Central belt Scotland here and yes, I've noticed supply issues. Some empty shelves in our local Asda (although that shop was always a bit bonkers especially early covid days) . I had the courgette problem and also couldn't get cucumber - only had half a dozen of the organic variety 4x price available.

Alarmingly, the cost dried pasta has gone up again by 10p which is concerning with it being such a basic/staple item I'm hoping it not a sign of things to come.

It's not just supermarkets though even Amazon has a lot less choice than it used to imo. A few years back I could scroll for hours looking at 'boys trousers' now there's only a few pages. I think many of us will have to get used to a scaled-back shopping future.

dutysuite · 17/10/2022 08:46

Just checked and no problems here and my Tesco local seems fine however I try not to use Tesco anymore as a I can’t stand their pricing system.

what - that it’s cheaper when using a Clubcard ?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/10/2022 06:10

5128gap · 17/10/2022 19:03

My local supermarkets are missing some products too. However, they are still full of food. If they don't have a particular item or ingredient, just eat something different?

🤔

I hope you are putting them right, stupid sheep that they are

i believe it is due to the op ordeirng 3 or 4 weeks in advance, or at least, that can't help, because they cannot guarantee the goods she wants. nearer the time i bet stock will be much more available

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/10/2022 06:52

i dont think the lack of a courgette is worthy of a thread tbh

TheSmallestOneWasMadeline · 18/10/2022 06:54

I shop in store and can't remember the last time I managed to get everything on my list but I always do manage to get most of it.

Really cross that they've stopped doing the Stockwell 22p beans though, the next cheapest are 4x the price!
