Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

I am in NZ and order my Mum's shopping who is in the UK, on Tesco - they appear to have stopped having magazines on the on-line site. Does anyone know if this is temporary or permanent?

Tesco used to do newspapers online, but stopped a few weeks ago - I don't know why. It's annoying, as we used to get the Saturday edition of the Times on a Saturday afternoon, along with the shopping.

OTOH, Teco has just started doing flowers online. The cheap roses have been good, apart from one bunch which they'd packed under heavy stuff & which came out 2-dimensional & never really recovered.

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle Thank you so much! Ah, memories!

The good side of this is that my courgettes were sub'd with an aubergine, so I've got back into making moussaka.

It's down to driver shortages, no HGV drivers = Empty shelves

surely we did vote to join?
or rather we voted to stay in the eu in 1975

not you or i presumably

The people voted to join the EEC (i.e. trading community). We were never given a vote/choice on the creeping extension of that into what became the EU.

DWMoosmum · 18/10/2022 17:12

A long hard winter because they've sold out of Malbec? 🤣 Try Pinot.

Grantanow · 18/10/2022 17:33

Tesco is not the only shop with stock shortages. It's mainly a consequence of Brexit. Truss's claim to have negotiated all the trade deals doesn't stand up much when you see they are all virtually carbon copies of the deals we already had through the EU. And there will be no trade deal with the USA. Thank you Brexeteers for nothing.

Exactly.

Somebody mentioned Tesco had stopped stocking Stockwell baked beans - I got two tins on Sunday just past. Maybe they’re one of the products that sell better in certain (poorer) areas? They’ve gone up to 26p a tin now.

expat101 · 18/10/2022 19:21

I’m not in the uk but I’m seeing similar where we live, and we are past the covid/I might have covid so won’t go to work thing…

not sure what the cause is, but prices keep increasing too. It will be interesting to see the end of financial year profits on some of the supermarkets regardless of location…

{The people voted to join the EEC (i.e. trading community). We were never given a vote/choice on the creeping extension of that into what became the EU.}
As the UK was at the 'top table' of the EU executive many of the changes actually emanated from UK proposals so did not get presented to the UK public as a distinct change. The EU regulation making process is very democratic in that someone proposes an idea. It gets discussed in the European Parliament by MEPs then gets written up as a draft regulation'law. This is voted on by all and then threspective MEPs take it to their sovereign parliaments (all 27/8) who then debate it and it is voted on by each country and passed into sovereign laws.
Having workshy MEPs like Nigel Farage who only attended 2 of around 40 imporetant sessions about fishing may give a clue why the fishermen felt aggrieved because farage failed to represent their interests in Brussels. The UK also had more vetoes and exemptions than almost all other countries because the British were whining brats and were disruptive.

Certain items are often out of stock and guess which those items usually are.....the ones that are Aldi price matched or cheaper product lines! It's as though they are pushing you to buy the more expensive items constantly. Are we doomed, no. We have choices to shop elsewhere 😅 Yes it's an inconvenience if you shop regularly with them like myself but I'm seriously thinking of shopping elsewhere when needed. I've delayed my slot by 2 weeks now due to out of stock products 🤷🏻‍♀️

I like them so much I often just slice them and fry lightly in a bit of butter, and eat along with other veg. Or I may use them in a tomato-based vegetable stew. Delicious.

They go great on tomato based things done they. We started putting them in spaghetti bolognaise .lasagne too.actually pretty much anything.fab in a curry we found just this week. We had a whole glut from our plant so basically chucked in everything.
they are great with other veg roasted.

Deff not just Tesco. Our local Lidl has been struggling.I think there’s is particularly due to drivers so the staff say.

Do you not have a market anywhere near? Fruit n veg stall, even some African meat shops will have them

Nave · 19/10/2022 09:32

Useitorloseit · 16/10/2022 08:54

Haven't been able to get a courgette from them for weeks!

I haven’t been able to get courgettes from M&S, Waitrose or Sainsburys for a couple of weeks!

user175438765 · 19/10/2022 09:41

I don't think it is courgette season at the moment so that is probably why

We have no markets. The market closed down after the council put in road restrictions and expensive parking so that the numbers going just proved unviable.

toomuchlaundry · 19/10/2022 10:03

I think courgette season goes until October so we are getting to the end of it

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/10/2022 10:47

but there was a drought
and as courgette's main ingrediants seem to be water, that may be why

jennakong · 19/10/2022 11:50

If you know anyone with an allotment, just say the word 'courgette' to them and you will inundated. If they don't grow them themselves, they'll know some aul fella two lots down who has a skipload. The main problem with courgettes used to be getting them foisted on you by keen gardeners and school gardening clubs, so it seems ironic there is a shortage now.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/10/2022 12:18

i have received oversize courgettes from the local allotment

ILeclercreturn · 19/10/2022 12:51

Having just staggered back in from the supermarket trip I can confirm a good supply of courgettes long and round varieties both 'normal' and 'bio' here in France. They weren't as cheap as they were recently but the cabbages, 2 green and red varieties are 'on special' so I got a couple of those instead of courgettes which i use as a 'filler' for my gastronomic creations. Also stocked up on loo roll 'just because'. 3 bottles of red wine Cabernet Sauvignon for €10 so I am 'all set'.

Courgettes have not grown well in the UK this year.

Jeez, I’ve never seen so much love for the Courgette. What does everyone cook with them?

Ratatouille pasta bake. If you don't overcook courgettes they don't go too soggy.

nopuppiesallowed · 19/10/2022 15:11

Carrot and courgette soup is lovely...so are courgettes roasted with herbs in garlic oil.
