Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

No. But nor is it cause for panic and doom when a tut, an eye roll and a change of menu would suffice.

Don’t see anyone panicking or dooming - just observation

i dont think the lack of a courgette is worthy of a thread tbh

I disagree. The realities of the disruption Brexit has caused are worthy of a thread.

Brexit was such a dreadful idea, and each tiny problem adds up to a huge drag on the country.

Mollymoostoo · 17/10/2022 22:32

You are booking a slot for 2-3 weeks time so of course they can't guarantee the stock levels. Seriously who shops that far ahead?

My understanding is that some people have regular recurring orders and pre booked slots

EmeraldShamrock1 · 18/10/2022 06:59

Most shops have had difficulty ordering certain products. We're not going to starve unlike the poorer countries who will run out of food and are really suffering due to restrictions on wheat etc.

Helium shortage is a big issue ATT killing independent balloon art business.

Pre-Brexit every shop could guarantee that far ahead. Supply chains have weakened.

If this is about courgettes, please put up a photo of yours. The rest of us haven't seen one for so long that we've forgotten what they look like & would like to relive the good old days.

Picture of courgettes for you, by way of nostalgia

Giggle, imagines you stroking your courgette (if that doesn't sound too rude!) @MrsLargeEmbodied

Those speaking about stockpiling, can many folk AFFORD to, these days?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/10/2022 07:05

My Tesco is also having a problem stocking certain medications. They’ve been terribly sweet about it - contacting both their regular supplier and their back up supplier - but nothing going. Fortunately, Boots are able to order it in

Balloon shops are so wasteful and bad for the environment that I’m quite pleased about the lack of helium.

Picoloangel · 18/10/2022 07:53

@MrsLargeEmbodied there is no talking to them. They feel completely entitled to stock up because later in the winter things will be more expensive and there may be shortages…yes because your selfish behaviour is pushing prices up and creating shortages. I’ve given up.

I have given up looking for certain soya milk desserts. I can no longer get them where I live. A friend down south has no issue getting them.

Individual supermarkets tailor what they stock according to sales. Tesco is by far the worst for this and drives me nutty.

It stocks different products in one town compared to another and if I go to one on the way out of Manchester it's completely different again.

I despise this.

Other supermarkets do it too but nowhere to the same extent as Tesco.

I hate Tesco. I used to shop there all the time but the way its gone over the last 3 or 4 years has really put me off.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/10/2022 06:03

what - that it’s cheaper when using a Clubcard ?

Oh you mean when Tesco over inflate the price and make some customers believe they’re getting some kind of an offer by using the Clubcard? 🙄

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 18/10/2022 08:12

@Mollymoostoo , I book a slot on Sunday morning for several weeks ahead so I get the time I want, popping a couple of items in and doing the full shop a couple of days before. On this occasion I was spooked as I couldn’t add ANY items as it was a software glitch which was fixed within a couple of hours.
@MrsLargeEmbodied I wasn’t complaining about lack of courgettes in four weeks’ time. There’s no point ordering so far in advance as items will invariably get removed. 🙂

or rather we voted to stay in the eu in 1975

not you or i presumably

This makes me hate them.

And its why I avoid shopping there. When we do, DH actively refuses to buy anything which has two prices and chooses an alternative instead!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/10/2022 08:25

they must think we are stupid

To be fair, a lot of people do fall for it!!!

I'd rather not have 'deals' all the time. They are shockingly misleading.

I think the one that's most annoying (and I think Asda are bad at this too) is having a deal - usually on an end of aisle where its more expensive per gram than other similar products. Of course because its located at an end of aisle its harder to spot you really aren't getting a good deal.

The worse products for this is by far meat especially if its on a 3 for £10 deal.

It does amaze me how few people shop by the price per gram in the first place though.

You’re right. It was a referendum. Advisory only, but very well supported and far less media influence.
We didn’t vote to leave either. It was an advisory referendum. The damage was done by the sitting government in the full knowledge of the problems it would cause.

This is why I do my online shopping with Morrisons (or if I’m feeling extravagant, with Ocado). They are so much better at managing their stock - generally stuff is available and generally they deliver what you have ordered.

Once Morrisons sent me 2 substitutions, virtually identical to what I’d ordered, and they rang me up to apologise and give me £10 off my next shop!

i find the lack of helium concerning given its primary uses are in medical and industrial settings

Haven't been able to get a courgette from them for weeks!

There seems to be some sort of courgette shortage. However I got some from Lidl the other day 👍

fairislecable · 18/10/2022 08:52

Went to Waitrose yesterday I needed SR Flour the shelves were empty of all types of flour!

Checked with the assistant she said they had no idea what was going on as they had not received proper flour supplies for weeks, so it’s not just Tesco.

You mean, I can go to a Tesco in an area with a high Jewish population and get a load of kosher stuff but then go to a different Tesco in an area with a high Muslim population and stock up with Ramadan deals? And the local community gets what it prefers which reflect the celebrations and traditions of the people shopping there?

It's a pain that you can't get the whole range at every store, but you may get what you need online.
