Smart meter- how much is everyone spending per day?

Just that really, wondering how much everyone is spending on their gas and electricity per day. Obviously knew come October things would increase, ours has pretty much doubled and we haven’t even put our heating on yet. Not sure how we can decrease it any further either.

@kegofcoffee £13!!!!!!!!!!! Blimey. Is that washing and tumbling?

Sugrny · 16/10/2022 19:47

This looks fascinating. We don't have a smart meter so flying blind at the mo' and trying to get by with extra jumpers. Has anyone worked out how much it costs per hour for an hour of TV or an hour on the computer browsing the internet or playing games?

I do t have a smart meter but I occasionally take readings same time every morning to get a pattern. Also made a note of baths / shorts / WM etc. but too much work to do it for long though.

Think so, it was probably 3-4 loads most on a high heat cos of a sick child.

Plus heating set to on with thermostat at 20c. Although I'm not sure exactly how long it was actually on for.

Blueberrydelight · 16/10/2022 20:03

We have been spending between £7-9 a day on just electric!! It used to be around £3 a day!!

Gas is around £3 a day at the moment but that it based on very little heating. I refuse to put it on but my partner does.

I've no idea what's going on.with the electric. Our usage doesn't seem excessive and the price has gone up but it's ridiculous.

Blueberrydelight · 16/10/2022 20:07

So £10-13 a day for us and I'm panicking!
I don't own a tumble drier (refused due to cost of electricity).

Hmmm actually something must be wrong. Our electric was £6.90 yesterday and we have been away the weekend. So how is that possible!

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 16/10/2022 20:13

£6 electric and &4 gas 😳and that's without using our heating yet!

pinkpip100 · 16/10/2022 20:13

Really surprised how low some of these are - we've used £55 so far this week, so must be averaging £8-9 per day for both. Family of 6 in an extended 1930s semi, extended part is extremely well insulated, the rest is very badly insulated. No tumble dryer (it broke and I'm now trying to manage without), at least one load of washing per day, heating has been on a little (but thermostat turned down pretty low)....I'm dreading what the daily total will be once we need it on for any longer..

Blueberrydelight · 16/10/2022 20:15

Can a smart metre be wrong? How can we spend £3 on gas and £6.90 on electric per day, when we are not home all weekend?

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 16/10/2022 20:19

Just under £2 a day for gas and electric but no heating on yet and dryer’s been mothballed. One adult only.

Marmite27 · 16/10/2022 20:23

It’s normally about £3.50. Currently bang on £4. No heating, the dishwasher has been on twice, I cooked a roast, but used the air fryer and microwave. There was one wash & dryer load, plus the kids had a bath.

Yesterday it was about £7, but we washed and dried 5 loads of washing.

You need to figure out what you've used, that uses power.

Things that cost most money, use heat. So tumble dryer, oven, underfloor heating, washing machine, electric shower...

inheritanceshiteagain · 16/10/2022 20:34

No idea. The bastard thing refuses to work and EON won't bloody fix it!

Fenella123 · 16/10/2022 20:39

Averaging out about £7/day here, all in. 4 bed but we close off and don't heat a couple of rooms. Gas hob. I wonder how much the fridge freezer uses - bought it cheap from a colleague years ago!

mrsjimhopper · 16/10/2022 20:39

£3.50 on a day we are out all day.

Today is the most since Oct 1st about £8.

Four wash loads and two dryer loads, roast dinner and dishwasher.

mrsjimhopper · 16/10/2022 20:40

... and no central heating on.

LondonQueen · 16/10/2022 20:45

About £6 a day, nearly £10 on laundry day.

Zippedydoo123 · 17/10/2022 16:00

It is so high these days. We are easily spending £40 a month since the increases.

Depressing to think that cancelling Sky will cover the extra increase.

Ccickenroast · 10/11/2022 00:03

I'm going threw £5.20 a day on eletric and I only boil the kettle twice on the mornings and phut heating on for 20 mins. Today I've used £7.40 because I used the washing machine 😭landlord altered my metre so it's taking like £2.40 when I use any eletric appliancez automatically takes £2.40

Michiru · 10/11/2022 05:29

I stay under £3.50 where I can, the most it's been so far was £3.89 when I put the heating on 3x that day for about an hour each.

I am honestly taken aback by how much it is for some - I live in a large 3 bed house and over the weekend lights and the TV/ console are on most of the time as they're being used by me or the kids. Even when I do 3 loads of washing a day it isn't that high.

Why are the prices so different?

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 10/11/2022 06:28

We don’t have a smart meter but calculate by reading the normal meters.

Do all theses daily rates include the standing charge and VAT?

Pootle40 · 10/11/2022 06:58

We are £4.50-£6 per day on electricity. Our gas smart meter doesn't connect in this area yet 😐

That's a detached 4 bed but we do normally 1 eco dishwasher load, a 30 min washing machine cycle and fan electric oven most days and tumble drier 3-4 times a week. Those are the killers.

Pootle40 · 10/11/2022 06:59

I did a roast dinner on Sunday, cost me over 50p just to cook it ☹️

Era · 10/11/2022 07:03

£7 ish a day just in electricity. Heating and hot water are on oil.

however my solar panels finally go in at the end of this month after crazy delays

WhatIsThisPlease · 10/11/2022 07:03

I'm just creeping over the £6 a day mark. 4 bed detached house but radiators in two rooms turned off.

Heating on for three hours a day (not very high though), usually washing machine or dishwasher - try to alternate and cooking with the air fryer when I can.

Dreading how much it will go up to when it gets really cold.
