Smart meter- how much is everyone spending per day?

Just that really, wondering how much everyone is spending on their gas and electricity per day. Obviously knew come October things would increase, ours has pretty much doubled and we haven’t even put our heating on yet. Not sure how we can decrease it any further either.

We are spending 4 pounds a day for normal gas and electricity if I use the dryer and heating it's more like £8.

millerpie · 15/10/2022 20:57

Under £2 a day but do have solar panels and battery storage.

AlwaysLatte · 15/10/2022 21:24

It usually averages out at £9-10 a day but that does include a well used electric car.

Oh depressingly I forgot that that doesn't include heating and hot water which are on oil. We just bought a tankful which at over £2.5k cost double the last lot. But we've resisted heating so far (using free wood from our garden. In the log burner). Hoping to keep it going!

NewBootsAndRanty · 15/10/2022 21:30

£2/day on gas (heating on) and 88p/day electricity on average over the last week, inc standing charges (just me in a 1 bed flat).

Jagley · 15/10/2022 21:41

So far today it's 0.80p for gas and 0.54 electric, 2 bed semi with me, ds who's 17 and 2 dogs. £8.25 in the last week.

PaperMonster · 15/10/2022 21:46

Between £2 and £4 a day on electric. Today will probably be around £4 as the x-box has been on, I’ve ironed and we’ve used the oven. Heating’s not been on yet. We’ve no gas.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 15/10/2022 21:49

£2-3 per day if I’ve used the washing machine and dishwasher. Never more than £4 yet this year. I’ve not turned the heating on yet so fully expecting it to increase then.

For context, it’s me and 3 dc in a 4 bed newish house.

Goldendoodlemum · 15/10/2022 21:55

£7 today but I have cooked a roast dinner for 8 people and done a load of washing and tumble drying.
Normally around £3-£4 a day with two of us WFH.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/10/2022 21:57

About 7-8 a day. That's with heating on a couple of hours and when I have washer and stuff on.

PledgeDusterMop · 15/10/2022 22:42

We are 4 adults in a 3 bed 1940’s semi .
Today we’ve used £4 in electricity (16.48kwh) and £2 in gas (35kwh).
We are high users, 2 adults with disabilities, but are trying to economise as best we can.
Were dreading when our fix ends.

Justworkplease · 15/10/2022 22:49

We’ve just moved in a new house and are currently anywhere from £2-6 per day for G&E depending on what I’m doing. We have heating on for a couple of hours each day and I’ve had a few days catching up on laundry and batch cooking to fill the freezer so those days have been on the higher end.

When I called to set up our G&E, we couldn’t find a provider that would let us set our initial DD at anything less then £10 per day! Currently being billed £340 per month.

Jaaxe · 16/10/2022 08:18

Thanks all seems we’re about average then, we’re averaging at about a fiver a day in an old 3 bed semi. Just getting a little concerned how much it’ll increase when we eventually put the heating on as we won’t really be able to limit this as due a baby in December so will need heating on for the newborn or our house will be baltic! Thanks x

Still using about 3 - 4 of electricity - and about 5 - 10 KWH of gas now the heating is coming on occasionally.

So about £1.20 (plus standing charge) for electricity and about 50p - £1 in gas plus standing charge.

It's a small flat

If you know your usage, especially over winter, then that will give you a good idea for your bills this winter.

Ccoffee · 16/10/2022 08:42

£2 for gas and elec for a basic day with wfh, a bath, no heating, and not a washing day. Live alone, terraced house.

A lot higher on days I do washing, have the oven on or put the heating on (thankfully have barely had to use it so far).

Logoplanter · 16/10/2022 09:08

About £4 a day for electricity. It's increased about £1 a day since the price rises in October but that's also the time we bought a dehumidifier which is on a lot at the moment. That's 4 people, no tumble drier but 1 person WFH permanently and the other a few days a week. Also an electric shower being used maybe 8 times a week but not for long (we try to use the one on the boiler mainly).

Heating has been on a bit, no more than 2 hours a day and not very warm (17⁰) and when that's been on the gas is about £5 😱 Use gas for cooking too.

I'm not looking forward to when the heating has to go on properly 😬

MrsDThomas · 16/10/2022 12:45

No idea about gas (heating not on) but electric is about £3.50 per day. £4.50 if oven is on. But really depends

Dougieowner · 16/10/2022 13:11

Between £3 - £4.50 per day for G&E.
That is with heating on, normal amounts of washing / drying plus I had a blitz on the ironing over the past couple of days (i.e. Lots!). OH is WFH.
4-bed det newbuild.

Changed over to the "autumn" duvet last week, waayyy too hot so have gone back to the summer one again!
Heating isn't on at night (switches off at 8:30pm) but the temperature just doesn't drop sufficiently to want to snuggle.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/10/2022 13:30

I've had the (gas) heating on for 2 evenings now. It is basically costing £1 per hour, just for that. Shock

Electricity really varies depending on whether I do a wash, what I cook etc.

^ and I'm on the side variable rate. Some pp above must be on a fix?

Hayliebells · 16/10/2022 13:37

Between about £3-5 a day for electricity, and £1-2 a day on gas. That’s for a 5 bed semi with 4 people, one of which works from home 3 days a week. I’m still using the dryer at times, as without the heating on clothes take ages to dry.

CountdownCat · 16/10/2022 13:57

Somewhere between £6 and £8 a day for both gas and electric, this on the current variable rate with being economical on heating.
2 bed Victorian terrace, I'm dreading December

The first hour of heating will always be more expensive as it gets the boiler up to temperature.
The spike on here is when my heating came on; it stayed on all evening after that.

Sirpatrickdelaneypodmore · 16/10/2022 14:09

We’ve used £74 combined so far this month. 4 bed new build, one WFH. Tumble dryer been on about twice when it’s rained all weekend and the heating been on for an hour maybe 4-5 times.

TescoCustomerService · 16/10/2022 14:11

Yesterday we used £2.37 electric & £1.18 gas. Slightly more than usual as we had the washing machine on twice, the heating for a couple of hours in the evening, two of us showered and used the oven to cook dinner.
