What a huge loss to the entertainment industry Sad a massive part of my childhood with the Harry Potter franchise.

Gone far too soon 🙁

Wolfiefan · 14/10/2022 18:15

Loved Cracker
And yes spectacles testicles
He did make Hagrid totally believable.
Such sad news. A great actor.

To me, he will always be 'Comic Strip'.

He's one of the breed whose death does give pause, and is affecting. Left me feeling very sad to read this.

Yes for me too!

troppibambini6 · 14/10/2022 18:16

Oh no! I feel really sad about this I loved Robbie Coltrane Sad

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 14/10/2022 18:18

Aw no! 😥 Huge Harry Potter fan and loved him as Hagrid 😥💔 RIP

Costacoffeeplease · 14/10/2022 18:18

Really sad. Loved him in Tutti Frutti with Emma Thompson and Richard Wilson (amongst others) and then in Cracker. Always completely watchable

Awrite · 14/10/2022 18:19

I watched Tutti Frutti at school, Cracker at uni and Hagrid with my kids.

Bloody love Robbie Coltrane. Same age and from the same city as my Dad.

RIP Robbie - Spectacles, testicles, wallet & watch (may have to rewatch that in honour...)

Yes!

I want to rewatch Cracker now, no idea how it would stand up to modern sensibilities, will it be on a streaming service do you think? I have Nuns on the Run I think (probably on video or stone tablet).

72 feels too young.

Oblomov22 · 14/10/2022 18:20

Oh that's sad. Loved him. 72 though is a reasonable age though.

Abraxan · 14/10/2022 18:22

I'm old enough but didn't watch Cracker, so for me Robbie Coltrane is Hagrid. He was perfect in the role.

In the 25th anniversary show he commented that he wouldn't be around forever (talking about The films being around trill in 50 years) but Hagrid would be.

Saddened both me and DD

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 14/10/2022 18:22

Spectacles, testicles, wallet & watch
See, I've heard of that quote, and people using it in RL, didn't know it was a Robbie Coltrane one though! 🙂

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/10/2022 18:23

very sad
he was great in Cracker

and of course an icon as Hagrid

ArcaneWireless · 14/10/2022 18:23

Absolute legend. An astounding actor.

RIP Sir.

You were not just Cracker in this house. You were a cracker. Sad

skyeisthelimit · 14/10/2022 18:24

I loved him in Cracker and Harry Potter. JKR picked him herself for the role of Hagrid.

This is what he said on the 20th anniversary special about Harry Potter . The legend will always live on.

RIP Robbie Coltrane
Toddlerteaplease · 14/10/2022 18:24

Absolutely love his Dr Johnson in Black Adder. Seen it heaps of times. But still makes me fry with laughter. RIP

Awrite · 14/10/2022 18:24

The scenes with Robert Carlisle in Cracker are fucking amazing.

We used to watch it as a group at uni and anyone who talked got thrown out. Imagine that? Imagine remembering the details of how you watched a programme over 25 years ago? Such was Cracker.

Pebble21uk · 14/10/2022 18:25

I used to work in TV many lifetimes ago in the early 90s and Robbie Coltrane was a guest on a show I was a Runner for. He was the sweetest, most friendly man. There was no side to him, no 'big I am' and he treated everybody the same - whether director or lowly runner like me.
Very sad - Cracker was brilliant.

elephantseal · 14/10/2022 18:25

Oh, so sad. Loved him in Cracker.

20th not 25th!

RosaMoline · 14/10/2022 18:31

So very sad to hear of the great man’s passing.
Not a fan of HP, but enjoyed watching him in ‘From Hell’ with Johnny D, and was absolutely gripped by ‘National Treasure’
Rest in Eternal Peace.

grannyjacob · 14/10/2022 18:34

I’ve enjoyed his performances in all that he’s done. This is the role that made him known and loved world wide.

I rewatched Tutti Frutti very recently but can't remember where I found it! It's dated a bit but still watchable.

It was repeated on BBC Scotland, IIRC.

I spoke to Robbie Coltrane many moons ago for work stuff, he was very nice.

A sad loss.

CurlUpAndDye · 14/10/2022 18:41

RIP❤😥
