MagnaQuestion · 06/10/2022 08:47

Has anyone with British Gas received their energy rebate yet?

My email said Id get £67 into my account a few days after I paid. The money for the DD came out on the 3rd but no sign of the £67 coming in!

Have others had theirs?!

So update now I've logged in - its been paid into by British gas account....

I only assume it gets paid to me out of there automatically next week...?!

I still don't have anything showing on my British Gas account either. Payment taken on 3rd as others. I know they said it would be paid by the end of the month. Can't help thinking that BG are taking the piss though. Imagine how much interest they would accrue from delaying hundreds of thousands of peoples payments for a week or so.

And their message function on the app has no one available to answer customer queries either!

No it just stays on the account. It doesn't get sent to bank account.

Some energy companies are sending the payment back to the bank account and some arent

WeeblesWibbleWobble · 07/10/2022 21:47

Ok my mistake. I was told it would just reduce the DD or off the bill

MagnaQuestion · 07/10/2022 23:10

Yup British Gas said they were refunding to bank accounts but I haven't seen it yet!

I’m with OVO Energy. I spoke to them yesterday about my DD increase and agreed to raise it from £200 to £275. This morning I got £66 back from them so I’m confused, does this mean I’m only really paying an extra £9 a month?

Billybagpuss · 08/10/2022 03:39

Just logged into bg account and it’s showing in and out but isn’t showing in my bank account yet. Maybe Monday?

startfresh · 08/10/2022 05:36

Mine still isn't showing on BG account nor my bank. Annoying as there's no online way to contact them the last couple of days.

startfresh · 08/10/2022 05:36

And no FAQ I could find on this to confirm delays.

ImAvingOops · 08/10/2022 07:59

Just checked my BG app and there's a payment of £66 added to the account. But they definitely said they were paying into bank accounts so no idea why they've now done it this way. I'm £500 in credit so it's not like I owe them money!

MagnaQuestion · 08/10/2022 08:07

I'm wondering if they put it in our BG account and then transfer it out? But a bit odd it didn't happen the same day....

I saw on Facebook many comments which suggest that the money goes to your BG account within 5 days and then the refund takes another 3-5 days to your account. I can't believe that this is considered an acceptable way. Being without £66 for a more than week is alot - tempted to reduce my DD and make the odd overpayment. The way pay day falls makes this hard for our family.

ImAvingOops · 08/10/2022 08:19

Tbh I'd rather it stayed in my BG account. Winter is going to be very expensive. Many people who are currently in credit, only appear do because they haven't paid a bill for a while.

Yes

Very slick

I’m with Ovo.

Our DD went out for the normal amount on 5 October.

We had £66 credited to our bank account on 7 October.

Our energy account is several hundred pounds in credit, so I’m wondering if you get the money back to your bank if your energy account is in credit, but applied to your energy account if you’re behind? It might account for some of the discrepancies?

MagnaQuestion · 08/10/2022 08:34

It looks like BG intended to do as Ovo did but are taking forever about it.

I really could do with the money!

Different companies are applying the credit in different ways

Octopus is reducing the direct debit by £66 and then making up the difference with the government credit. BG seem to be leaving the direct debit the same but crediting the £66 firstly to the energy account and then sending it to the bank account the direct debit came out of.

loudbatperson · 08/10/2022 08:38

Have you tried contacting British Gas to ask them?

I believe it will be credited to your account and then refunded (as this meets the needed paper trail for invoicing and receipts).

This is the first month, so I would guess there have been some teething issues, and I would hope it happens more quickly and smoother in future months.

MinervaTerrathorn · 08/10/2022 08:41

I'm with Octopus and it came through a couple of days after my dd finally came through. Took 6 days for dd, rebate and bill. My dd has been reduced by £67, I see no need to put it back up to build up credit as the dd is set to cover my bills over the year.

LizTrussIsACylon · 08/10/2022 08:48

BG here.

Paid DD on Thursday. No sign of any refund or any credit on account. Following this thread for updates.

I'm furious about how they are managing this.. Why can't they just credit the account instead of doing this silly refund. They increased our direct debit in September to £440. Last bill was August and we're billed 6 monthly. We are now £950 in credit and have only spent £350 since August. Their app only lets me reduce the DD to £390. And that is without taking into account the £400 credit!

I think they just want the money in their accounts for a few days. Probably using it to shore up investments etc.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 08/10/2022 09:05

EDF here. We had the £66 on Thursday to the energy account and then it hit our bank this morning. It was a pointless exercise as I have then paid on debit card to have it credited to our account as our very low 2 year fix ends in January and I am trying to build up as much credit as possible for the winter months and so our direct debit doesn't have to go over 250-300 a month as we can't afford more than that.

It seems I will have to make a monthly payment via debit card every month to EDF when I wish they could just cancel paying it back to our bank.
