Says the Chair of the Conservative party, Jake Berry. That this is the Tory approach.

What a tool.

Gosh really :(

canyoudtep · 02/10/2022 12:56

Who's going to do all the low paid jobs, then?

autienotnaughty · 02/10/2022 12:58

Awful isn't it. It feels like the country is going backwards.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 12:58

I expect he will be supporting all the workers striking in an attempt to get a better paid job?

Maybe they should raise minimum wage then so we’d all have better paid jobs. Cost them less in UC top ups too.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 13:03

Excellent point about minimum wage.

I guess we could all become prime minister too, that seems to be a job with extremely low entry requirements. High turnover means it'll be coming up again soon.

🤦‍♀️

Here's the transcript of that part of the interview:

He needs to STFU and fuck off.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 13:10

How is the government going to deliver effective public services (which he says is an expectation) when he has just told public sector workers to quit and do something else?

OP posts:
JJsdadisatwat · 02/10/2022 13:13

Omg, why didn’t I think of that!

Brilliant. Well, I am off out to find a 60k a year job first thing in the morning. Cannot believe it didn’t occur to me to do that sooner.

Not sure who is going to fill in for me hoisting those elderly care home residents to the bathroom, mind.

mumonthehill · 02/10/2022 13:18

Another Tory who has no concept of how people actually are living today. Yes let’s cut consumption, so easy when you have cut everything already, let’s all get higher paid jobs, no let’s actually pay people a decent wage for the work they do. When people are choosing between eating and heating then anyone who makes these sort of comments should be ashamed.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 02/10/2022 13:25

Well I wish I had thought of that!

FayeGovan · 02/10/2022 13:26

Time for this again

Bet Jake Berry will tell you he had no help either.....

PeloFondo · 02/10/2022 13:26

Hope he doesn't ever need care, a supermarket, petrol, to book his car in at a garage, a reception worker, a waitress, bar staff....

JanglyBeads · 02/10/2022 13:28

Never seen that @FayeGovan, thank you.

Queuesarasarah · 02/10/2022 13:29

FFS - well on that basis nurses, early career teachers, carers, food delivery drivers, teaching assistants, paramedics, police etc should all immediately leave their jobs and do something easier and better paid.

Thank the Lord that many have stayed, despite them being hard jobs and not very well paid. Where would our country be without them.

He shows a total lack of understanding about what jobs are needed to keep society going.

TimBoothseyes · 02/10/2022 13:30

Wonder what he'll do when his cleaner leaves for abetter paid job. Wonder how much the canteen staff at Westminster are paid? Still he can always take some butties and a flask to have for lunch.

Minimum wage sounds a good idea in principle. It is not much help though for all those people who can't get sufficient hours and far too many employers now only offer part-time. There needs to be either incentives or some kind of regulation to make full-time work more available.

@TimBoothseyes How will he bu sandwiches for lunch once all the supermarket staff have quit for higher-paid jobs?

Dunno, but that'll get them their "efficiency savings" though, I suppose.

Quitelikeit · 02/10/2022 13:38

Why is it such a big deal that he is suggesting if people need more cash they should work more or get a different job?

some people are in that position? Just because people on this thread are not in that position so what?

i know many people who work part time and could increase their hours

FictionalCharacter · 02/10/2022 13:41

This really is how they think.
Just get a job! Because they don't understand how people can be unemployed.
Just get a better paid job! Because they themselves could.
Just work more hours! Because they find it incomprehensible that people can be working brutally long hours but still not earning much.
Just cut down! Because they live lavish lifestyles and could cut down a lot if they wanted, and will never have to consider living in a cold house or skipping meals.

And if they're accused of being out of touch, they deny it and act all hurt.

Raidtheice · 02/10/2022 13:44

So I can cut down my consumption. Therefore spending less in the economy and generating less growth.

Or I can get a better paid job. Like I haven't been trying to do that my entire adult working life.

This man is a fucking genius. Why has no one ever come up with such ground breaking policies before 🙄

Where are all these wonderfully better paid jobs in North East Wales BTW?
