Says the Chair of the Conservative party, Jake Berry. That this is the Tory approach.

What a tool.

England. That's why hardly anyone I know works where we live. But public transport across the border is shit. So we all pay stupid petrol money too.

The words of someone who knows he will be ok during this crisis

People can be in low paid jobs temporarily and work their way up. Some jobs in hospitality can be done by students or people starting up. Vacancies will be filled by new people arriving. It is stupid to say if we all look for better jobs no one will make your sandwiches. If you need a better paid job you go and look for it. You are not staying there because who would do the job? Shocking revelation I looked for a better paid job and cut my use of electricity. That is how we and the majority will cope in their houses but funny that with taxes so high is still hard. If you choose to have large families it is harder to catch up. If people can’t work because they are disabled help is available. What do you expect the government to do? Give more money for your bills? May be that is going to happened anyway but people would still moan. Because the people who moan the most just wants Labour to get in. Once they get in whatever happened around them will be white noise. I bet on this.

Oh hi Liz. Fancy meeting you here on Mumsnet.

Well we're already in that position with teachers and nurses, aren't we?

no one on here has actually said why they can’t get a better paid job?

what’s wrong with reducing your usage?

its through people like yourselves moaning that the govt spent billions to keep people warm!!

fgs I’d rather that money went to health/education/police

And care workers.

I’m trying to jump ship to Aldi at the moment. They pay better.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 14:41

why they can’t get a better paid job?

I could get a better paid job, but then your kid won't have a maths teacher because there's no one to replace me.

Are you still sure you want me to quit my job?

HailAdrian · 02/10/2022 14:41

Stupid fucking plank. There are a multitude of reasons for being unable to simply get a better job. For me personally, I have a disabled child to care for. Do they even consider stuff like that?

mackthepony · 02/10/2022 14:42

Like that women in that country mansion who said, oh just eat porridge for brekkie, i do!!!!

Yeah

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 14:43

This is what people getting better paid jobs looks like. (ITT is teacher training).

Yeah, what's up with that eh?????

I can make my own sandwiches...
However, that very ill person in hospital that relys on a lowly paid health care assistant will need theirs delivered to their bedside!

Quitelikeit · 02/10/2022 14:48

Noble giraffe

i doubt anyone really cares if you quit your job to get a better paid one?!

you could tutor on a weekend or evening?

waffless · 02/10/2022 14:48

ha,ha,ha… calling me Liz is a good try bully. I could not care less.

Quitelikeit · 02/10/2022 14:49

Mack the pony

you still haven’t answered? What is actually stopping you from getting a better job?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/10/2022 14:52

The good thing about the last few weeks is that it makes it absolutely clear what the Tory party stands for.
Provide benefits for the rich while shitting on the poor.
If only parties had honest slogans...

WilmaFlintstone1 · 02/10/2022 14:55

Why I can’t get a better paid job.

I need to stay local as my adult son is disabled
My public sector job is better paid than it would normally be.
tne hours allow me to meet my son’s needs.
My skills are all in the health sector
I am bloody good at my job.

I am still dreading the rise in energy bills.and I don’t know if I can afford them

waffless · 02/10/2022 14:55

So yes nurses need to be better paid and many things that are not happening and I feel sorry for them. Teachers can top up their hours with a side hustle like tutoring. However, quite a few choose to be a bit of political activists. Btw teachers and nurses have been badly paid for ever. I remembered trying to train to become a teacher and the payment was so low I did not got into it like twenty years ago.

Icecreamandapplepie · 02/10/2022 15:05

Even if some get a better job, they still have the compassion to not want others around them to be in dire straits.

Not everyone is an I'm alright jack type of person.

noblegiraffe · 02/10/2022 15:09

Grin

Except I know that people would care. My school and dept would care because they know how they would struggle to find a replacement. Last year we put out a job ad for a maths teacher and got no applicants. The next attempt saw us send all interviewees home at lunchtime as totally unsuitable.

My classes would care, particularly my exam classes. They know what happens when the school loses maths teachers because they've been through it before. Some of them have been in the situation of 5 maths teachers in a year. Some sixth formers have been in the situation of no teacher for long periods and having to teach themselves.

And the parents would care, because they actually want their kids to get a decent education, unlike, it seems, this government.

So nice try.

I think you are looking at this in too much of a black and white way

no problem with encouraging people ( by tried and tested methods) to cut their bills

it was horrible but we had no heating except a Rayburn in one room for years.

there are “ some people” who could perhaps change jobs or even get a job ( I have a family member , perfectly fit who does not work at all an let’s her parents struggle to pay the bills.)

but of course lots of people can’t just change jobs or work extra hours , plus the group probably most affected by this ( elderly and disabled ) can not have this option .

it was an Ill thought out comment . Everyone has different circumstances and different capabilities.

Do you want your children all being taught by teachers with 'side hustles'??

Do you want teachers only to be able to financially survive if they work two to three jobs??

Perhaps if there was no recruitment crisis in teaching and no shortages, there wouldn't be quite so much anxiety about the quality of teachers and there would be less need for 'side hustling' in the first place.

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2022 15:30

What proportion of modern houses have a Rayburn?

Mamansparkles · 02/10/2022 15:37

Raidtheice · 02/10/2022 13:51

But we won't need a public sector when we have our amazing high paid jobs, we can just send our kids to private school, send Granny to take in the air on a cruise and lock our mentally ill relatives in the west wing of the mansion because we will all be soooooo rich.

Sorry still won't work. Teachers, TAs and cleaners in almost all private schools don't get paid any more than public sector. Maybe at Eton? But not at most so the private schools will have to shut too if staff take his advice. Carers in private care homes don't get paid more either so they will have quit. As will the cruise staff.
At least if we all take his advice though it would actually affect his life even if he is in cloud cuckoo land and thinks he doesn't rely on underpaid workers.

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2022 15:39

I'm not sure they get paid that much at Eton either but the senior ones and the pastoral staff get accommodation.

Maybe they are all side hustling away.
