Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

Horrid this has got into the media.

I won't make any assumptions until the Police have had time for detailed forensic examinations.

DeadButDelicious · 30/09/2022 18:18

Obviously I hope that they have found Keith, for his families sake, it must be a terrible thing to live with. They need that closure.

I have a bad feeling about this author though. We don't know Keith has been found yet and he's spouting it like it's all done and dusted.

I'm not sure I can see any wallowing but all the 'I'm in tears here' posts and another 'sobbing my heart out', can make people come across that way I guess.

It reads as almost competitive even if it's not intended to.

I am not particularly soft hearted or lachrymose but I did have a few tears. I'm very nearly 60 and Keith has been missing for almost my entire life. Winnie was a known figure because of her brave, unceasing efforts to find him and she enlisted publicity in doing that, for obvious reasons.

The whole situation for that family has been utterly tragic for over half a century and yes, I do pray that this is real and they have finally found him and he can be buried properly, with his mother. No competition with anyone and any tears are not for myself but because it was and is such a terrible thing.

Rosscameasdoody · 30/09/2022 18:27

If these do turn out to be Keith Bennetts’ remains, it’s so very sad that the discovery didn’t come in time for his mother to be able to bring him home and maybe find whatever peace she could from finally laying him properly to rest. I do hope this doesn’t become a media circus, Keith’s remains should be treated with sensitivity and dignity, and respect for remaining members of his family. Rest in peace Keith and Winnie.

Omg.

Twitter is a disgrace isn't it?

Such congratulatory posts.

Clawdy · 30/09/2022 18:31

The BBC television news have just said it's a skull fragment and not yet confirmed as human. That really doesn't sound as hopeful as the earlier reports.

Catfordthefifth · 30/09/2022 18:32

CB98xx · 30/09/2022 17:49

It's been confirmed as a hoax.

BBC are still reporting on it and no mention of a hoax?

BobDear · 30/09/2022 18:35

I'd like to think that the awful, self-congratulatory author who led the police to the site, knows a little of what he found. Twat as he is, I'm hoping that he found more than a small fragment of a skull that may or may not be human, in order to blow his trumpet as loudly as he has....

I was just about to say this. The only confirmation of it being a hoax id the screenshot above but it's still being reported and the police haven't said otherwise?

I sincerely hope its Keith. Bless him and his family.

Hindley and Brady should have hanged for what they did the bastards.

Someone on another site today tried to minimise what the moors murderers did, by saying that similar things have happened to teenagers in London since that time. I’m old enough to remember the whole thing and although there have been some terrible cases since, and I don’t wish to minimise what the victims and their families must have been through, I don’t think there has been anything that’s provoked such a visceral public reaction as the moors murders. The nature of the murders - torture, sexual abuse and the gratification that those two monsters got from what they did, and the fact that they recorded the agony and fear the children suffered for later ‘enjoyment’ was hideous. And the refusal to disclose the whereabouts of the remains was chilling - calculated to cause the maximum distress, as evidenced by Winnie Johnson’s plight. I really hope they’ve found Keith, and he can finally rest in peace. I also hope Brady and Hindley are toasting in hell.

I guess the brutal rape and murder of a child (whose body has never been found or death officially confirmed) does make some people tearful.

Is what the author is doing vastly different to what everyone’s doing here?

I mean, Keith is dead. We all know that, it isn’t as if everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if there might be a conclusion. We know what happened and we know the outcome. Bones don’t change that.

Exactly

theremustonlybeone · 30/09/2022 19:01

When I saw the feed I just hoped he had been found so the family could bury him and close this nightmare. So truly tragic and i feel for his poor mum who died never finding him although i hope if there is an afterlife they are together

stillvicarinatutu · 30/09/2022 19:09

I hope this is Keith and he can finally be laid to rest . God bless him .

I hope it is, so Keith Bennett’s remaining family can have closure.
How tenacious is that man who has been searching for so long. Wow.

Definitely and he funded a lot of the ground scans and searches himself.
Desperately hoping its Keith, he needs a proper burial and to be moved away from where that monster left him.

I think it's awful that certain people on here think people are 'wallowing' in these comments, for god's sake a 12 year old boy has been alone and disposed of on those eerie desolate Moors for decades, it has effected me as a parent as at the time it happened it could have easily been anybody's child. It's called empathy why people are tearful and deeply moved by the news today. I can't even begin to imagine what the victims families have been through and I hope none of us ever have to find out.

@Charlespen

If Keith were my relative, I don't think I'd want a graphic description of how his body was dug up to be plastered all over social media.

Most people on here are writing how much they hope it is him so that he can have a proper burial and his family can have closure. And how sorry they are that this ever happened in the first place.

Exactly - and this is something so heartbreaking that of course people are going to comment on it. It feels personal to every caring person who knows the whole tragic story. I'll bet that almost everyone on here has wept with relief that the body has (hopefully) been found and with sympathy for Keith's family - because whatever the outcome of the tests carried out on the remains, this has been agonisingly painful for them

ou would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by it.

I do think that whatever was found was definitely human remains, I grew up close to Saddleworth moors and the amount of people who called the police after finding bones was astounding, they all turned out to be the bones of animals, yet I've never seen a police response like this before.

I dearly hope it is Keith, so he can be laid to rest with his beloved mum.

Caught a snippet of this on the radio in town... I sincerely hope it is Keith's remains, bless that poor little boy and his mum.

Hopefully they are reunited in 'Spirit'.

Yes the BBC don’t appear to be running it yet. I would be amazed at this point if it wasn’t little Keith.

Why? I net there's loads of bodies buried up the moors
