Human remains found on Saddleworth Moor

Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

Is what the author is doing vastly different to what everyone’s doing here?

I mean, Keith is dead. We all know that, it isn’t as if everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if there might be a conclusion. We know what happened and we know the outcome. Bones don’t change that.

From reading some of the news reports, the soil analysis does seem likely to suggest it’s human remains, and the skull and teeth indicate a 12 year old. But the police aren’t yet confirming that the soil analysis did come from that site.

The author has also described in detail the smell when he dug it which is just a vile thing to do

Unlike the good taste shown here wallowing in someone else's grief?

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/09/2022 17:35

I hope for the family's sake that it is Keith Bennett and he can be given a proper funeral.

Inappropriate of the author to go into such detail until properly verified imo and I can understand the family's reaction.

From what I recall, the soil in that area of Saddleworth Moor is peat-based and subject to movement over time. Peat soils preserve things in a way other soils don't.

There is a vast difference between talking about a story which is in the news, a story which has essentially been in and out of the news for 60 years, and posting gleeful tweets full of smiley faces claiming hero status for something which hasn’t been confirmed yet, presumably with the aim of getting more publicity for one’s latest book.

UrsulaPandress · 30/09/2022 17:40

Nobody here is wallowing. I can see the moors from my window. I know the landowners. My dad knew policeman at the trials. A friends dad was the duty solicitor when the case broke.

It’s always felt personal to local folk.

Prescottdanni123 · 30/09/2022 17:41

@Charlespen

If Keith were my relative, I don't think I'd want a graphic description of how his body was dug up to be plastered all over social media.

Most people on here are writing how much they hope it is him so that he can have a proper burial and his family can have closure. And how sorry they are that this ever happened in the first place.

Rockingcloggs · 30/09/2022 17:42

Dibbydoos · 30/09/2022 17:28

I sincerely hope its Keith. Bless him and his family.

Hindley and Brady should have hanged for what they did the bastards.

I disagree -in the case of Brady anyway. Brady wanted to die instead of wallowing in a prison. So, based on that reason alone it was right and proper to keep him alive. Why should he have got what he wanted?

Greeklover · 30/09/2022 17:48

So sad for the family. Bloody media and this author causing pain

CB98xx · 30/09/2022 17:49

It's been confirmed as a hoax.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 30/09/2022 17:49

charlespen ‘bones don’t change that?’ Really? Try telling that to the poor family who have never been able to grieve properly, for whom everyday is limbo wondering where their precious boy is. It is right and proper that Keith should be brought down off the moor and his body laid to rest peacefully. Otherwise, we’d just leave people where they died wouldn’t we? Just because we know what happened to him, doesn’t mean he should be left alone on the moor. His heartbroken mother dug through soil with her bare hands to find her boy. No one here is wallowing as far as I can see. This is a hugely infamous case and there is and always has been a very strong sense of feeling. A child was murdered and given an undignified burial. We feel huge waves of sympathy for his family. People care, people want to see this child laid to rest properly. It’s not wallowing. It’s basic decent human nature.

Where does it say it was a hoax?

No it hasn't, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed it ffs

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 30/09/2022 17:55

What a bizarre retort charlespen. No I don’t know them personally, I have never claimed to. It doesn’t stop me wanting Keith Bennett’s body to be found. As I said, basic human decency.

@Charlespen

I've driven past Saddleworth moors several times and it has always given me chills abd I've always hoped that they would find him. So I am genuinely hoping that it is him, genuinely worried about the disappointment the family will feel if it is not him, and genuinely concerned at the idea that it could be someone else.

Noteverybodylives · 30/09/2022 17:58

@Charlespen you have serious issues.

No one is “salivating”.

Its a case that most of us in the UK have known all our lives. It’s hugely emotive, especially given the ages of the victims.

We’ve all seen Keith’s mother and family on TV over the years.

You would have to be a hard souls not to feel empathy for them and wish for them to finally find his bones.

chilliesandspices · 30/09/2022 18:03

I hadn't heard this story OP but like you, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's him. I don't know the family, I don't even know much of the story because I'm too young. I just want to see an end to their torment because I'm human.

OneFrenchEgg · 30/09/2022 18:05

Honestly I don't see any salivating or wallowing and I've jumped to report loads of threads about dead or dying children.
I just think a lot of parents in particular can empathise and feel very much that they would like to see the family able to bury their child.

PauliesWalnuts · 30/09/2022 18:06

We go walking up there a lot as we’re only a couple of miles away and it’s always on my mind - like a previous poster said, it’s very personal to us. My mum was in her very early twenties when it happened and thirty years later it still made her cry when she talked about it, along with the Aberfan tragedy. I hope the police and family get the peace they need to work through the process without the mainstream media bothering them.

Liila · 30/09/2022 18:07

'Unlike the good taste shown here wallowing in someone else's grief?'

Posters are commenting on a high profile, tragic case. There isn't any 'wallowing'.

Exactly.

Empathy isn't 'wallowing'.

I agree. Hanging them would have dragged the rest of us down to their level.

Habreathmint · 30/09/2022 18:09

Those evil cunts make me ill. I hope the family get closure. I hop I never see those fucking mugshots again.

worraliberty · 30/09/2022 18:10

I'm not sure I can see any wallowing but all the 'I'm in tears here' posts and another 'sobbing my heart out', can make people come across that way I guess.

It reads as almost competitive even if it's not intended to.
