Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

The BBC news story is a lot less definite, and the greater Manchester police chief has said that at this point they are not certain that it is human remains.

The tabloids do have a tendency to jump to a certain explanation without verification, so while I hope it is him and he can finally be laid to rest, I don’t think we can dismiss the possibility that it could just be the remains of e.g. a wild animal.

I’m always a bit dubious of these people who investigate in order to essentially sell their book. It wouldn’t surprise me if this isn’t the first time he’s contacted the police.

How many more? If Myra was still alive, I suppose they would have squeezed her onto another taxpayer-subsidized educational course (such was the severity of her punishment).

She'd be 80 now. Given that she had angina and a brain aneurysm, I wouldn't have thought another educational course was terribly likely.

I so hope it is him so his family can finally have some closure and lay him to rest with his mum. Can't imagine what that poor family have gone through over the years, his poor mother died having never found him.

MaudGone · 30/09/2022 16:13

Do we know who the author involved is?

Do we know who the author involved is?

Someone called Russell Edwards from Birkenhead

His poor mother never got to find out where he was. How sad. Sad I also hope it's him.

MaudGone · 30/09/2022 16:25

Thank you. Seems like a publicity stunt judging by his Jack the Ripper claims. On twitter he's claiming, "It's been a sincere honour to find Keith Bennett", although nothing's been confirmed yet

I appreciate he might want to make a name for himself especially given his ripper book but it's hard to believe he would make the whole thing up just to be a publicity stunt, surely there is some substance to his claims he has found some remains?

Noteverybodylives · 30/09/2022 16:28

The brother said this has happened a few times before so he’s not getting his hopes up.

I hope it is his skull as that is the most important bone to find.

Apparently, it’s going to take a couple of weeks to determine whether it’s his or not - not sure why though!

Bloody hell, I hope to god you're wrong. Running with the idea it's remains of a long lost child when it's a dead sheep would be absolutely horrific for the family.

@MaudGone I've just seen what the author has tweeted, I really hope this is all genuine Sad

The 3 big smiley emojis aren't exactly respectful of him. Never mind him blabbing before anything official is released

UrsulaPandress · 30/09/2022 16:33

This is making me really tearful. So hope Keith has finally been found. It’s a grim day up there in more ways than one.

OctopusBreath · 30/09/2022 16:33

Fucking hell, the smiley faces on the author's tweet! It is beyond inappropriate.

Hope very much that it is him. The whole story is unbearably sad.

What's with the smiling emojis? 😡 also his twitter bio says he solved the jack the ripper murders. He didn't. Sounds like an attention seeking tool.

I agree.

OneFrenchEgg · 30/09/2022 16:34

That tweet is awful. Fucking emojis and triple exclamation marks

BobDear · 30/09/2022 16:36

Even if this is Keith (and I hope with all my heart it is), no one who sees that tweet is EVER going to read anything that disrespectful, inappropriate man has to say (assuming it's a man)

BigEnergy · 30/09/2022 16:36

That tweet is awful! Why on earth would he think the smiley faces are appropriate in this situation? I hope for the family's sake they have finally found Keith but I'm disgusted with that author if it's him tweeting that.

FayeGovan · 30/09/2022 16:37

Is that tweet for real??

Beees · 30/09/2022 16:37

Agree the tweet is just terribly poor taste but I'm still hopeful he has actually found poor Keith.

Does anyone know why the testing of the skull that's supposedly been found would take weeks?

BenCoopersSupportWren · 30/09/2022 16:38

Apparently, it’s going to take a couple of weeks to determine whether it’s his or not - not sure why though!

It's not an easy or straightforward process to extract DNA for testing from what may be quite small bone fragments. They may have to try to locate dental records.

These types tend to develop a bit of an obsession with cases like this.

They want to be the one who solved the mystery or whatever.

I mean why would an amateur go around digging up bits of the moor like this?

Add in his tweets and it’s all a bit sick really.

He's posted the same disgusting shit on his Instagram too.

Needless to say, his feed is starring to fill up with press requests. You know, the usual high brow suspects like This Morning 🙄

He should be made to remove it by GMP.
