Human remains found on Saddleworth Moor

Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

How confusing?

So have the police physically been there and the thing they saw is now not thought to be human?

But the archeologist said it was definitely a human jaw bone?

Yes this has confused me as well I must say

Georgeskitchen · 01/10/2022 16:33

It seems very bizarre. It seems there was a geologist and an archaeologist involved and soil samples were tested that appeared to indicate human presence. I can't imagine why professional people would lie about what was found

Saucery · 01/10/2022 16:38

The samples might not have been from the site he claims to have identified.

Where does he say this

I agree none of that would make sense.

In the Daily Mail report

That tweet was in poor taste, but Russel Edwards has apparently approached the case with new eyes and realised Brady was attempting to make a swastika shape with the layout of the graves - which fits with Brady's obsession with Mein Kampf. That poor little boy. I hope he is found and laid properly to rest now.

Well, he's surmised that. But given that peaty ground shifts quite a bit, it would be really surprising if this grave has retained a place in the swastika after over 50 years.

CrabbitBastard · 01/10/2022 16:50

I can't believe newspapers are still reporting like he's been found when nothing has been confirmed yet. I hope Keith's family sue both the author and the papers. The papers could at least have said 'suspected' in their headlines but they are going full on with headlines saying its Keith.

NCFT0922 · 01/10/2022 08:49

@Novum don’t people also say that about auschwitz. That nothing grows there and birds don’t fly over. Just eerily silence.

I'm afraid that's well-known to be a myth.

Novum · 01/10/2022 17:02

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/10/2022 09:16

Auschwitz and the secondary camps form a huge complex which is carefully maintained as a memorial to all who suffered and died there. It was and is a treeless waste covered with grim, forbidding buildings.

I would imagine (though I don't know, of course) that the people who maintain it remove weeds, seedlings etc as they start to push through, so that the bleakness of the camp remains as a testimonial to the unimaginable horror that was perpetrated.

If there are no plants, there will be very few insects, and if there are no insects (or seeds), then birds won't come.

It the normal course of things - no-one removing seedlings and plants etc - then nature would take its course and it would very quickly become covered with vegetation and wildlife.

If you look at photos, there are quite large areas of grass and trees.

Novum · 01/10/2022 17:06

There were a couple of supposed experts quoted in the Mail reports who said this was definitely human remains and that they had seen dentition which indicated that it was a child. If it definitely isn't, I guess that is them thoroughly discredited as experts.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 01/10/2022 17:16

This is utterly baffling. One of these experts is particularly renowned in their field of work. Why on earth would they put their name to this if it was a hoax? If this has been exaggerated / intentional I hope they through the book at him.

Are they? Why do you think they're renowned? Do you honestly know that and are you an actual expert in the same field who is able to state that for a fact, or are you just assuming based on reports in some less than rigorous newspapers?

Just because the DM claims someone is an expert does not make them so.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 01/10/2022 17:24

When the case broke, I googled the names of the other people involved in the dig lockheart. I am well aware that plenty of people claiming to be experts are usually armchair at best. You don’t have to work in the same field as someone to know whether they are ‘an expert’ or well educated in something. I can think of many renowned names in several occupations where we can state with virtual certainty that they are an expert and yet many of us will not be similarly trained in these areas.

There are, yes.

I remember hearing a lot about the fact that birds didn't sing / fly over Auchwitz. I visited a few years ago in July. It was a beautiful sunny day and as I stepped off the coach birds were singing away and flying around like anywhere else. There was grass and trees and flowers too.

Obviously the place itself and the memories it holds still give you the chills.

HebeSunshine · 01/10/2022 17:55

Of course plants would grow where bodies have been buried - more so if anything because of the nutrients.

I’m beginning to think this man, who claims to have solved the Jack the Ripper murders (as if!) is just a glory hunter and has faked the whole thing.

Poor Keith’s brother and family if that is the case 😞

Saucery · 01/10/2022 17:59

Sadly, I expect the family are used to it. Explains the tone of their statement yesterday. Any investigations will be explored by the police first. There will be many, many crank calls made about this (and other cases).

Crankley · 01/10/2022 18:06

On the BBC News website it says ""No physical evidence of a jaw bone or skull has been examined."

If this author 'went public' suggesting what he found was Keith Bennett's remains and it proves to be untrue I feel strongly that he should be arrested. I have no idea on what charges but to have raised the hopes of Keith's remaining family without first getting official confirmation is completely despicable, self serving and I hope his book ends up in the rubbish bin.

WhenRoyWentCrazy · 01/10/2022 18:09

he already did go public.

I think everyone just needs to wait until the police have finished, they said they are up against it due to conditions.

Saucery · 01/10/2022 18:11

Surely if you find something like that you mark the place really carefully? GPS technology can pinpoint you to a place so accurately.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 01/10/2022 18:12

It's absolutely dispicable if it's a hoax, I really really hope it isn't.

I just read the DM article / interview and he says at the end that once he found the jaw he 'put everything back as he found it' surely he doesn't mean he reburied everything with no marker and no tarp at the layer he excavated to? He's not just filled everything in and the police are having to reexcavate and hope they're in the right place?!

If you found human remains, even if you weren't expressly looking for them - but especially if you were! - surely you'd ring the police from the site and wait for them to arrive?! Not bury it all again and stroll off too do an interview or two before alerting them??

Surely, surely, that can't be what's going on?!

Bebethany · 01/10/2022 18:15

They have just said on the news that the bone fragments found by a crime writer are not human.

TimeforZeroes · 01/10/2022 18:17

Yeah that checks out.

I don’t think he’s for a second invested in getting peace for the family. He wants to sell books. His fascination was the Ripper was so bloody gleeful.

Crankley · 01/10/2022 18:20

Then the author is a piece of scum - I hope he rots along with Brady

it's not just that he has gone public.

He's publically congratulated himself on finding Keith Bennett.

Is he really that nasty/stupid/unaware?

Or is just that any publicity will do?

I know I saw. I posted to say he shouldn’t have done that. The family deserve better than this.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 01/10/2022 18:38

If this is some awful hoax he should be ashamed and charged with wasting police time. What a cruel thing to do to a poor family that have lived in limbo for 58 years.
