Human remains found on Saddleworth Moor

Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

And if it IS Keith's remains, what then?

So hope it'd mean he's finally reunited with his mum and they're laid together once again 💔

"If you look at say, Fred and Rose West, they’ve almost become daft caricatures. There have been memes about them, videos on FB with people dressed as them for Halloween,

If that's true, it's disgraceful. There's no league table in these things, but I think Fred West was even worse than Brady.

I agree. This thread was started in good faith but there are concerns about a lot of things now.

Such as? The fact that the original reports may not have been accurate is not the fault of anyone on here and can't be enough in itself to justify pulling the thread.

I was thinking will all these people who think the guy who claims to have found him take back all the horrible things they said about him?

UrsulaPandress · 30/09/2022 23:35

On North West Tonight they had some expert claiming to have seen the skull.

Tbf I think it was his self congratulatory tone and (absolutely tone deaf) smiley faced that pissed people off the most.

He could have waited for the police to confirm remains are Keith's (which they haven't done) before making a public statement.

And he certainly didn't need to use smiley face emojis while making a public statement before police confirmation.

I think personally it would have been gracious and empathetic to wait until the police confirmed and ask Keith's family if they would like to be the people to issue a statement regarding him being found.

Poor little lad, I think of him often and felt deeply sad when Winnie passed away not having had any closure.

Prescottdanni123 · 30/09/2022 23:39

@Georgeskitchen His brother is still alive. Being able to give Keith a proper burial will hopefully give him some closure.

I am currently being called all sorts on twitter for challenging him over his tweet.

I posted on there too. Was shocked at the response you received. I expected some flack but the post has been deleted altogether.

The fact that landscape shifts is one of the things making me sceptical about this. The author bangs on about the place in question backing up his theory that Brady laid the graves in the form of a swastika, but after nearly 60 years it wouldn't be wherever Brady left it.

Also the author says he found it because he noticed a patch of ground where nothing was growing. There is no reason why plants wouldn't grow above the place where a body is buried.

Where does he say this

I agree none of that would make sense.

Is she the archeologist who was viewing the dig remotely and identifying it as he went? Shes been quoted in that article in the thread but who knows if she is legit as well

Icecreamandapplepie · 01/10/2022 00:20

I find comfort in how much posters still think of this little boy and his family, and how much we all want him back with his mum.
I hope desperately he is found soon.
This man is neither here nor there in comparison to the bond between this boy and his mum. I look forward one day to seeing them reunited, one way or another.
Fuckin monsters that broke that bond. Temporarily.

I agree with this. I enjoyed Gavin and Stacey but hated the fact that the writers gave the two main characters the surnames West and Shipman - I thought it was really bad taste.

mustbetheseasonofthewitch · 01/10/2022 01:22

That tweet was in poor taste, but Russel Edwards has apparently approached the case with new eyes and realised Brady was attempting to make a swastika shape with the layout of the graves - which fits with Brady's obsession with Mein Kampf. That poor little boy. I hope he is found and laid properly to rest now.

TimeforZeroes · 01/10/2022 02:12

Russell seems very keen to prove murder theories. This would be a massive coincidence…

TimeforZeroes · 01/10/2022 02:14

Didn’t he also claim to prove the identity of Jack the Ripper based on a shawl he had? He’s like Jessica bloody Fletcher.

Is what the author is doing vastly different to what everyone’s doing here?

I mean, Keith is dead. We all know that, it isn’t as if everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if there might be a conclusion. We know what happened and we know the outcome. Bones don’t change that.

What an awful post. Of course it changes things if they find his remains. It means he can be removed from that desolate place where those two monsters left him, and given a proper burial, with some closure for his remaining family and a focus for the grief they will have carried for all these years. If the remains turn out to be human but not those of Keith Bennett then things change again as that presumably opens up another investigation.

No. I would stand by saying that his tweet with a smiley face was in poor taste. I would also stand by saying that this was for publicity.

If he had found what he had found, contacted the police directly and then said nothing until it was at least confirmed as human remains, or Keith’s remains then I think most people would be fine with that.

NCFT0922 · 01/10/2022 08:49

@Novum don’t people also say that about auschwitz. That nothing grows there and birds don’t fly over. Just eerily silence.

How does four graves 100s of yards apart from each other even make a swastika anyway? It sounds like something out of a TV crime drama. He's behaving like he's found a lost Picasso not potentially located the remains of a brutally murdered child.

But equally think of every church yard and cemetery you’ve ever seen. There is usually plenty of plants, trees and wildlife.

Grass does grow differently on disturbed ground and this can often be seen in hot weather when the grass is parched but it still grows.

Very well put.

PauliesWalnuts · 01/10/2022 09:09

It annoyed me when he said something about kids these days not knowing about the murders and they shouldn’t be forgotten. That’s certainly not the case up here in Greater Manchester. The anger and hatred for those two is still as visceral as it ever was. There are still a lot of people alive who remember it well, and remember the names of those children.

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/10/2022 09:16

@Novum don’t people also say that about auschwitz. That nothing grows there and birds don’t fly over. Just eerily silence.

Auschwitz and the secondary camps form a huge complex which is carefully maintained as a memorial to all who suffered and died there. It was and is a treeless waste covered with grim, forbidding buildings.

I would imagine (though I don't know, of course) that the people who maintain it remove weeds, seedlings etc as they start to push through, so that the bleakness of the camp remains as a testimonial to the unimaginable horror that was perpetrated.

If there are no plants, there will be very few insects, and if there are no insects (or seeds), then birds won't come.

It the normal course of things - no-one removing seedlings and plants etc - then nature would take its course and it would very quickly become covered with vegetation and wildlife.
