Best supermarket or brand pizza

Hi,

Every Saturday is pizza night with Strictly and instead of takeaway, this year we're going to work our way through some supermarket ones to save on money (and hopefully calories!)

So what's your favourite supermarket pizza please. My current favourite is Aldi Calbrese with rocket side salad

Waitrose Garlic Mushroom and spinach stone baked.
Or the M&S equivalent in their wood fired range. (A bit better than the Waitrose ones).

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/09/2022 09:12

Have you made your own? Really easy, so much tastier. Probably not cheaper than ready made but still a lot cheaper than takeaway.

HaveringWavering · 30/09/2022 09:13

I have a secret soft spot for a Dr Oetker mushroom Grin

However I also recommend all the Sainsburys Taste The difference ones. Except any that involve chicken- that is a crime against pizza.

I don't think M&S do the garlic mushroom and spinach one any more. That was my favourite.

I despair at the choice of pizza toppings in supermarkets and from takeaways. It's like you don't matter if you don't like some form of pepperoni or chicken on your pizza.

Most places have more choice within the 'spicy processed meat' selection than anything that's vegetarian where it's usually plain margarita or mixed vegetable but that is usually ruined by the crime that is sweetcorn.

So I generally get a plain one and put some mushrooms, peppers, onions and olives on.

Scianel · 30/09/2022 09:22

I like the Sainbury's Taste the Difference ones a lot, that's my go-to for pizza night.

KateLumley · 30/09/2022 09:28

Crosta and mollica spinach and garlic mushroom. And I don't share it Grin

Magn · 30/09/2022 09:31

Crosta mollica are the best by a country mile.

If you're open to making your own, M+s also do a nice stonebaked base which is lovely. You can get the northern pizza co dough balls in most supermarkets now and they're great if you have a pizza tray or mesh and an oven that gets hot enough. Mutti pizza sauce, nice mozzarella (m+s and Waitrose organic are the best), and a drizzle of olive oil.

I've made myself hungry.

Apollonia1 · 30/09/2022 09:32

TESCO finest ones are lovely.

I add onion, garlic, chilli and cherry tomatoes.

blackpinkinyourarea · 30/09/2022 09:34

Supermarket pizzas have gone up in price so much recently.
I love Lidl's Deluxe pizza range, especially the Spicy Chicken Arrabbiata one. I think it is £5 now though, so not sure when we will next splurge on it!!

oldwhyno · 30/09/2022 09:34

Chicago Town stuffed crust pepperoni or meat feast.

GiltEdges · 30/09/2022 09:34

Another vote for Crosta and Mollica. My favourite is the salami and pepperoni 😍DH prefers the ham and mushroom.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/09/2022 09:35

I wonder if the supermarkets and Crosta and Mollica are ready for the army of Mumsnetters charging to their doors to buy their pizzas for their weekend pizza night?

I totally disagree that making your own pizza is time-consuming and faffy!!

It's so cheap and everyone can add their own toppings.

Give it a try first with bought bases or pizza dough then work up to making your own dough!

I don't think it's faffy either. I use a pizza express recipe with instant yeast and olive oil. Super easy and kids love it. I'd disagree that it's cheap though I seem to spend a fortune on sliced meats and seafood on pizza night. It's a good way of getting them to try new things though.

I like my crust paper thin with feta and olives. Lots of rocket on the side.

gyarados · 30/09/2022 09:41

M&S Woodfired pizza - 3 cheese & truffle or ham, mushroom & mascarpone

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 30/09/2022 09:44

Any from M&S/Waitrose, Tesco finest (especially the 4 cheese and caramelised onion one) or the fresh ones from Morrisons/sainsburys that are made in store.

Amybelle88 · 30/09/2022 09:45

Asda stonebaked or Aldi stonebaked - the bases are the most 'pizza like' rather than stale pillows like Asda make your own.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 30/09/2022 09:46

I'm another who CBA to make my own but we sometimes buy naan breads and use those as a base to make our own, much nicer than shop bought pizza bases, it was a gousto recipe box that introduced me to that idea!

Ooooh this, too - we do naan pizzas a lot and they're gorge 😍

Bloodybridget · 30/09/2022 09:49

Yes of course, Crosta & Mollica not Crolla. Why do I forget that? I have made my own dough quite often, but the pizzas are always a bit hard round the edges so I don't feel it's worth the effort. I saw Jus-Rol pizza dough in Sainsbury's the other day and wondered about trying it, any opinions?

JohnsShirt · 30/09/2022 09:52

The Morrisons finest ones are really good, I get the plain margarita and then add anchovies, olives and capers, and once it's out of the oven some parmesan and then top with rocket.

Magn · 30/09/2022 10:02

@Bloodybridget possibly not getting the oven your enough before you put the pizza in or over kneaded the dough?

Magn · 30/09/2022 10:03

*hot enough!

Lurleene · 30/09/2022 07:57

If we want a lardy pizza we get the Sainsburys £10 deal, two pizzas, two substantial sides and a dip. It is the closest thing for us to ordering in.

£10 pizza deal

That's a good deal

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 30/09/2022 11:16

Tesco takeaway style stuffed crust are the favourite ones in this house and DH likes Lidl ham and pineapple.

When I want something different I make our own (Dds prefer Tesco pizza dough for the base while I like making our own) because I like weird combos like kale and garlic mushrooms while the rest of the family disown me Blush

summergone · 30/09/2022 11:23

Oooh naan bread as a pizza base , will definitely be trying that !
