Sir Kier Starmer isn't fit!
But if he steps up to save us all , even I might fancy him
His wife seems lovely.

Elodie09 · 28/09/2022 20:33

@Roussette She certainly is . I loved the way he talked about her on his Desert Island discs spot.
It would be so wonderful to have a really "good " man (or woman) in power for once.

Yes, and it might sound wrong but I want the spouse of the PM to be in the background unlike Carrie. She was too full on. That's me being polite.

Elodie09 · 28/09/2022 20:39

@the80sweregreat
I stand by my feelings ! I thought he did look fit on tonight's Labour party broadcast. Mind you , integrity, decency and kindness are very appealing aren't they.
Greedy, sweaty , dishevelled . lying hypocrites , not so much ......

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2022 20:41

Agree elodie

There's just something about him. We are getting to see the real him some friends who have worked with him talk about (and they are Tory voters!). They describe him as funny, loyal, dedicated, honourable and extremely hard working.

I've loved today when he's simply said the comment their made about Kwaisi was racist.

No ifs or buts or excuses. No explanations. She was wrong. She was racist. No excuse.

I'm more hopeful for a decent Labour government showing is what we can have and winning this week than I've felt for years.

He has my vote. And it's one I'm not in 2 minds about.

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 20:42

I do love his wife! Sir Kier is too nice for me !
I read a comment on the daily Mail website :
Fairy tale politics have become Grimm !
It is true

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 20:56

The new chancellor isn't for changing apparently
What will it take ?

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2022 20:58

I dread to think 80's

New. Chris Philp confirms on #peston that the government has NOT decided if benefits will be uprated in line with inflation this Autumn, as promised by @RishiSunak As I reported earlier.

No10 and Treasury ministers reject any notion tonight that there's a crisis. Meetings are continuing on a range of subjects in Number 10 - but there's no big focus on the market turmoil. Ministers in cabinet rubbish the link between Friday's statement and today's turmoil....

.... No10 see this is a communications and stakeholder error not a policy messup. So for them, it's business as usual.

I'm as sure as I can be that the Bank of England - and much of the City and the IMF - do not agree

They are in La La Land.

Unfortunately any vote is a long way off. What’ll be left by that point is anyones guess.

They are in La La Land.

Either they are lying to us or they are quite mad.

We need a new government.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2022 22:04

Either they are lying to us or they are quite mad.

I’m going for both. With a side dish of psychopathy.

tobee · 28/09/2022 23:25

How long do you think the effects of the mini budget to be felt? Plenty of people (not just ministers) downplaying all this. Using all the excuses. So I'm sure people will disconnect the cause and effect.

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2022 23:28

Quite the achievement, worse than Trump

Former senior (& seasoned) G7 official tells me on UKG mess:

“Never seen anything like it in a Developed Market. Worse than Trump.”

I've just been thinking that unless something major happens before Tory conference, they could easily spin it as a success. They can just come out and say "tax cuts" and "growth" etc and delegates will go madly cheering. Anything other than Truss or Kwarteng walking on stage and loosing control of their bowels will be seen as a triumph right now.

And who's going to be darling speaker at the conference to rally the troops.

Roussette · 29/09/2022 06:06

BBC News say Liz Truss is on the programme this morning? I think I heard that right.

935 mortgage products have been withdrawn Shock

itsgettingweird · 29/09/2022 07:20

I've just got home.

Going to put news on for an hour before going to work and try and see what's going on.

What would the World Bank people know?
Annoyingly I can't read the full article.

Cornettoninja · 29/09/2022 07:39

Oh god are they going to start talking about financial institutions the way they did about scientists? Something in me died when it became acceptable to say ‘science’ with a sneering tone.

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2022 07:49

This from the FT's editor is quite amusing..

I've just heard a clip of Truss on local radio. OMG how thick and full of self importance did Truss sound?

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 29/09/2022 08:16

Well the little I've gleaned from Twitter is that Truss has doubled down. Wonder how the financial markets might respond.

And the radio interview were planned as standard pre conference I/v. I suppose they didn't dare cancel them.

Saucery · 29/09/2022 08:20

There's some 6th former on the Today programme gabbling the party line.
