Hopefully I've done this so it works.

This really isn’t helping. Over the course of 14 threads a small community has formed here. Please can we not start turning on one another? It’s pointless castigating @itsgettingweird for the way she voted three years ago, it’s not as if she held the casting vote in 2019.

Thankyou.

And for those who've I've been with since about thread 6 know at that time my ds has just been diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition, my mums cancer had returned for the 3rd time and my dad had just been diagnosed with cancer.

I'm happy to admit with it all going on I was in no way in a place of sound mind Grin

But I'm not sure anyone really would have been going through that either.

But my mum dying earlier this year really has changed me as well. Not politically but in a way where I know life is short and we need to make the most of it.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2022 18:00

Oh that will teach me for taking 40 minutes to finish a post. I've gone off on a tangent.

In the spirit of openess I voted for Johnson as Mayor once.

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2022 17:58

I am not going to 'vilify' anyone for their vote, just don't tell me you had no choice.

well its been a huge learning curve in what needs to be considered in making that choice at the ballot box. My concern is those that become so disillusioned they no longer take part because they’ve bought into the ‘there’s no good choice’ line. That’s even more harmful and the current cabinet would be quite happy with low turnouts.

Yep.

Tomorrow I'll do what I always do on a Thursday...run the foodbank, plaster a smile on for the clients, do my best for them.

But I'm angry. Really fucking angry.

And I offer no apology for that.

I'm done pussy footing around people who voted for brexshit/tories.

They should be told - repeatedly and loudly - what their votes have wrought.

ClaudineClare · 28/09/2022 18:08

itsgettingweird as the spouse and carer of someone with a rare degenerative neurological condition I empathise. it is a very hard thing to deal with and very challenging.

Blossomtoes · 28/09/2022 18:09

They should be told - repeatedly and loudly - what their votes have wrought.

Unless they’re deaf and blind they don’t need telling, it’s blatantly obvious. Just lay off on this thread please, there are plenty of others where you can vent.

So sorry @itsgettingweird, you really don’t deserve this.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2022 18:11

"Cuts coming: A Whitehall source tells @BBCHelenCatt that the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Chris Philp, will write to government departments in the coming days about ‘living within the Spending Review’ and identifying ‘spending efficiencies.’"

Budgets were set when inflation was much lower. This will be Austerity by another name.

Piggywaspushed · 28/09/2022 18:14

We just had an email at school. It was long , but in a nutshell it said 'there is no money. Bring blankets and don't even think about using electricity.'

Downnotdown · 28/09/2022 18:15

Has Truss shown her face yet?

It really is a case of Where's (the) Wally? 🤔

ClaudineClare · 28/09/2022 18:19

Bloody hell piggy.

tobee · 28/09/2022 18:21

Anyway….

I think instructions are being followed to hold nerves and shortly the architects of this will get the disaster levels they want for their haul. Not sure what will be happening after that.

Don’t suppose they can be held to account and face charges and jail or fines. Presumably the country doesn’t have that at its disposal. Which is what they’re banking on.

Lack of mandate doesn’t seem to make any difference. Because they can say they have one. Interesting that only a few years ago the Tories elected new leaders like a papal enclave with no resource to the party membership. Which seemed appalling to me at the time.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2022 18:27

It's just not workable. We will be at the point where the PTA will start doing whip rounds for electric.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2022 18:30

Conservative government coming full cycle. Austerity leading to Brexit leading to flatlined growth leading to fiscal incontinence leading to austerity all over again. Each needless crisis a response to the previous needless crisis.

twitter.com/iandunt/status/1575173634309509120?s=46&t=96esA_-JoBtCQXjmePG07Q

This seems pretty accurate.

tobee · 28/09/2022 18:34

😏

Cornettoninja · 28/09/2022 18:34

sorry if this has already been posted, just picked it up from Reddit. ‘Pension funds would have collapsed today without intervention from BOE’

Thank you.

I'm calmed and reassured by those of you who I've been on these threads with from the start knowing my situation and knowing my feelings.

And if we all had hindsight I'm sure we'd all have done things differently in the past.

After all - WMD was on labours watch.

I don't buy into they are all as bad as each other. It's simply not true.

But neither is one party 100% more honest than the other at all times. We have to hope the choices we make are correct. And recognise when they weren't, learn from why and try not to make them again.

But I'm loving Starmer more and more these days Smile

Saucery · 28/09/2022 19:23

John Redwood on Ch4 News appears to be being sponsored for the number of times he says “Bank Of England”.

L1ttledrummergirl · 28/09/2022 19:24

It's worth considering that many people don't live in the constituency Johnson, or Truss, or any of the tories in this or the previous government. A lot of people will have voted for their MP on the basis they thought they would do a good job representing them.

Unfortunately those MPs seem to have turned into fuckwits with shit for brains (as someone I care a great deal for once said), and chose the most selfish, egotistical, self serving idiots to lead them.

I lay the blame for Truss on the parliamentary Conservatives for their dismal choice of candidates for the leadership campaign. The members had a rubbish choice and neither options were brilliant.

Nobody in 2019 could have predicted this, he'll, nobody a year ago would have predicted this.

Who did they miss out on @L1ttledrummergirl ? I genuinely can't think of anyone left who was decent.

itsgettingweird · 28/09/2022 19:35

My local MP is an idiot right wing something generation racist. I can't stand her. I didn't realise so many were like her.

My local Tory councillor was so socialist and central (he was my ex sociology lecturer at uni!) I thought for the first few years after I returned home between election he was actually a Labour councillor.

I found out a few years after that he actually worked for Labour party previously. He'd switch parties because Tory's were always likely to win using his very good knowledge of politics played a smart game.

He was very centric and more left and right until he retired in his 70's.

He did so much locally for those on poverty - even was in charge of opening up our local hub which supported people with applying for jobs etc and running free education courses.

I miss him. He was the best politician I've ever known with a true moral compass and heart.

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2022 19:56

Truss will be local radio tomorrow, BBC Radio Tees and BBC Nottingham so far

Elodie09 · 28/09/2022 20:07

Surely Truss has to resign ? If there is no way to have a GE we can't have her and him for the next 2 years. It is untenable. If the Tory MP's put their letters in, Sunak could be the "holding " PM , reverse what those two have done as it was never his plan anyway, and then watch Labour go from strength to strength. What do you think?
Btw , in a light - hearted moment, anyone else think Sie Keir looked quite fit on the Labour party political broadcast tonight? He ain't boring !!!!

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 20:08

Truss needs to come out of hiding !
Or the hairdressers

Eh? I'm a fan of local radio but not Today? Not national radio?

Seems a bit cowardly.

I like him, I think he has hidden depths!

His wife is gorgeous, I'd caught a glimpse of her once before but she certainly manages to keep out the limelight.
