Is this showing off?

I’m lucky enough to have several pairs of Louboutin shoes, mainly plain pumps, that I’ve had for several years. I hardly ever wear them, partly because I worry that it might be seen as me being flashy or showing off.
I was going to wear a pair last night when we went to a local gastropub (we rarely go anywhere posh and pricey), but changed my mind just before we left.
Should I just think it’s not showy off to wear them or just leave them in the wardrobe or, sell them as I wear them so rarely?

This is exactly why I go out barefoot.

Me too

But I paint my feet black and lace my toes up so people don't think I'm poor.

PolarPolly27 · 25/09/2022 16:01

Most of shoes are designer. Most are unbranded so no one would ever know unless they specifically recognise them. I never worry about them getting trashed because they're bought to be worn and enjoyed. I wouldn't think twice about wearing them anywhere.

mummywine · 25/09/2022 16:01

as someone with a foot fetish id rather you didn't wear shoes expensive or not ;)

I wouldn't know what brand shoes you are wearing? I wouldn't know if they came from Harrods or a market stall. I don't really take much notice of other people's shoes. Shoes are shoes.

VladmirsPoutine · 25/09/2022 16:03

I can imagine you at the pub saying "I was going to wear my Louboutins but I'm far too embarrassed to wear them, but I should as I have so many pairs." Grin

LadyKenya · 25/09/2022 16:04

Meh.

LettuceJones · 25/09/2022 16:04

They are just shoes. Thousands of people will have them. Lots of people will be more than capable of affording them but wouldn't want them.

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/09/2022 16:09

I’d sell if they’re in decent nick. I think fashions have changed and heels like that, especially conspicuously designer ones, are a bit much for an evening at the local gastro pub. I used to have loads of shoes like that 10-15 years ago but these days I have 2 pairs and the only outings they’ve had in the last year have been weddings.

YumYummy · 25/09/2022 16:15

i think sell if you hardly ever wear them. It seems a shame you didn’t wear them
much when they were in fashion.

notprincehamlet · 25/09/2022 16:19

Not if you team them with sackcloth and ashes

mam0918 · 25/09/2022 16:22

I honestly wouldnt even notice, I rarely look at peoples feet and never bothered about brands (I only notice if its SUPER obvious and stand out, like irregular choice which I personally think are ugly but horses for courses).

If you took the time to talk about your shoes being expensive then yes I would think you where a show off-y dullard.

TugboatAnnie · 25/09/2022 16:23

Just been to have a nose on the website. Pumps that have 120mm heels? Every day is an education.

AlisonDonut · 25/09/2022 16:23

I wouldn't know what one of those was so wear what you want.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 25/09/2022 16:26

I think you are overestimating how much people care about what other people are wearing.

I don’t think I could tell you what any of the people in the restaurant I was in last night wear wearing other than me and possibly dh, although I couldn’t tell you 100% what shoes he wore!

wear your shoes or don’t, but not because of what other people might think

waterlego · 25/09/2022 16:30

I wouldn’t recognise a designer shoe if it slapped me round the face so I’d be none the wiser. Actually I’m very unobservant in general so rarely notice what people are wearing unless they’re highly unusual. (I’d make a terrible eyewitness to a crime).

So you’d be fine if the pub is full of people like me 😀

I think it’s a bit odd that you have already bought the shoes but now can’t seem to decide for yourself whether or not to wear them. Wear them….or don’t. I can guarantee the only person it matters to is you.

Banana2079 · 25/09/2022 16:31

Bloody wear them ffs

😂

Blueberrywitch · 25/09/2022 16:32

The world would be a much better place if everyone realised all these brands are showing off and felt embarrassed to do so. I think it just depends where you wear them, I would feel silly wearing a sky high pump to a gastropub, but you might be more comfortable wearing them to a swanky cocktail bar!

girlmom21 · 25/09/2022 16:32

I would have no idea you were wearing them so wouldn't think you were showing off.

girlmom21 · 25/09/2022 16:35

I've just had a look and would like to know why people spend £800 on shoes you could buy for £4 in Primark and just paint the sole red on.

Choopi · 25/09/2022 16:36

I wouldn't know the difference between louboutin pumps and primark pumps so no I wouldn't think you were 'showing off'. I'm not into designer goods so even if I did recognise them I wouldn't think you were showing off because I don't think they are something to envy.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 25/09/2022 16:40

I feel pretty sure that, unless your friends are self confessed fashion slaves, they won't even know.
The only way most people would know is if you drew attention to them.

puddleduckle · 25/09/2022 16:43

If they make you feel uncomfortable, then sell them, but I don’t think you’re showing off by wearing a pair of shoes that you like and you’ve purchased. I have a very expensive designer bag, just the one, as I’ll never part with that kind of money again on a bag (I still occasionally have buyers guilt!!). I wear it whenever I don’t have my huge baby bag with me; I don’t feel showy or ott when I wear it, I love it and I don’t give it another thought.

flyingant · 25/09/2022 16:48

Not the point of the thread but I've just looked up Louboutin pumps and realised they're actually high-heeled stilettos. I thought pumps were like ballet flats. John Lewis seem to agree with me 😂

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/09/2022 16:51

Wear them or don't wear them. Nobody will care.
