I have seen a tweet that says Lyman has fallen but it hasn't been confirmed yet

What would this entail?

I’m not convinced about a general war, there hasn’t yet been any attack outside Ukraine (setting aside the pipelines for now). Putin can rant and rave as much as he wants but at present his actions don’t match his words. I agree he’s a bully and, like any bully, he’s afraid of the bigger boy in the playground (NATO).

I think calm cool heads in the US and NATO (which we’ve seen thus far) are working.

To be honest i just see the nato application as Ukraines bargaining chip to counter Russias. Ukraine likely to say their desire to join Nato is now non negotiable. You then have 2 sides saying things are non negotiable. This usually leads to both sides negotiating on the things they said were non negotiable in the first place.

As much as I would like to See Ukraine join NATO either now or after the conflict. I can't see them being accepted as then other countries with issues that would normally not allow them to join will then start wanting to apply to join.

@katem98 Im not sure. Russia mobilizing more and sending more troops in Ukraine and perhaps elsewhere. Things really getting out of hand.

I’ve been working (hiding from the news) today, just caught up herself thank you for all the updates everyone.
im really not doing so well, as some of you may know I’m from Donetsk, my grandparents are from Olenivka, my other grandparents are from around Bachmut, and Russia is not our “motherland” . I’m so angry sad and frustrated 😩

My Ukrainian guest has also been getting very wound up by the fake referendum - he’s a pretty chilled individual but this has really got to him. Must be an order of magnitude worse if you are from that area.

same points

-onus is on Russia to end war, if it stops fighting there is peace but if ukraine stops fighting they cease to exist

-we will protect every inch of NATO territory

-we are not a party to the war but we are providing support because if Putin wins in Ukraine we are in danger

-nuclear sabre rattling is irresponsible

On Ukraine joining capital NATO, he said there is a process and consensus to follow. So no change there either.

some interesting analysis from an ex Russian Prim Minister, reported by Sky, that Putin might choose to step down and run away somewhere nice if he feels things are moving against him in Russia.

Anthony Blinken has made clear the US has seen no signs that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons but that they are taking any threats to do so extremely seriously. I think in the circumstances this is the best we could wish for from he US. Nice and level headed. Fuck me imagine Trump was still in power 😭
