Harry - regretful?

Do we think after seeing the magnificence of yesterday that he is regretting giving it all up?

He looks so angry and unhappy all the time now?

I doubt he regrets leaving for a new life in Cali, I suspect might regret burning bridges with his entire family by selling them out for a few quid though. I do think they could have had the best of both worlds ie their new life and being welcomed back to stuff albeit as non working Royals.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2022 11:59

I keep seeing videos showing his apparent discomfort but there’s always an original showing the opposite

That's the nature of the ridiculous media though; they show what they want to show, just as they kept changing the story over who'd be wearing uniform and when. No doubt "royal correspondent" sounds good, but too often it stands for little more than "what we made up over a liquid lunch"

Certainly Harry's behaviour doesn't suggest happiness to me, though he doesn't appear to have done anything wrong this week, but who knows what'll happen when he's back in the US pondering his book? As ever the media will have their version of whatever-it-is, and as ever it's wise not to believe everything we read or hear

MarshaBradyo · 20/09/2022 12:00

It’s hard to know. He doesn’t come across as happy but who knows really

CatsandFish · 20/09/2022 12:00

It's the beard. I feel men with beards often look grumpy. Beards can often hide facial expressions so they look grumpy or angry but aren't.

blockpavingismynightmare · 20/09/2022 12:01

How petty of Charles not to allow him to wear a uniform he has every right to wear and not being allowed to salute at the Cenotaph when others who were wearing token uniforms did !
Even when he was allowed to wear the uniform (at Westminster Hall) the ER was removed from the epaulettes. How petty and tacky and reaffirming his position for all to see.
This alone would be more than enough surely?

SettingsO · 20/09/2022 12:01

I can’t believe people are criticising his facial expression for not being the right kind of unhappy, at a funeral! I know he won’t be reading this, but it’s people like this who will make them glad to go home.

twilightermummy · 20/09/2022 12:03

When I saw Harry yesterday, he seemed to have a similar look of grief all those years ago at his mother’s funeral. I think he has his own issues and problems with the press. It’s clear his foot was already halfway out of the door before Meghan even came along.
They’ve handled themselves well this past couple of weeks. I hope he goes back to America, cancels the book deal and tries to live a happy life. It’s not clear that he’s being advised well the other end of the pond either.

Carmakomelian · 20/09/2022 12:03

I think he looks miserable and unhappy whenever there is a camera shoved in his face. This might explain why he looks unhappy whenever you see him on telly. Unsurprising considering how his Mum died. Yesterday there was a load of bollocks circulating about how he didn't sing the national anthem, with a picture of him with his mouth closed. Except if you looked back, he clearly was singing, and just at one point didn't have his mouth obviously open (pretty normal for anyone). I'd be pretty miserable if a load of strangers slagged me off at my Granny's funeral for things I hadn't even done.

I think coming back was probably a good reminder of why they left. A lot of irritating and unwanted opinions about hand-holding or wearing a uniform.

This is what I think too. He can't even hold his own wife's hand without everyone dissecting it, then add in body language readers in the tabloids etc. And all the attacks on Meghan such as #GoHomeMeghan trending on twitter. I bet he can't wait to get back to California and I don't blame him.

Of course he misses it, he just can't admit that right now. In future he will.

Spot on.

All the rules and regulations seem ridiculous to me but they’re a huge part of military and royal life.

OfficiallyBroken · 20/09/2022 12:05

I think Harry is the Edward of our generation aside from Edward being first born. His place in the Royal Family didn't align with how he wanted to live his life so pretty much exiled himself from the country and his family making some very questionable decisions in the process.

Although he retained some titles, it was made clear that any children he may have and his chosen spouse would never have titles.

The only real difference I think is that Harry is subjected to and courts the media's attention which is pretty much instantaneous and 24/7, whereas Edward's media was obviously more controlled and slower to be released.

Only Harry knows if he has regrets, but honestly his demeanour showed duty to a matriarch he did hold affection for rather than a desire to return IMO.

Maybe they feel isolated from family, the only family they have in the USA is M mum.

He has his number one family with him in the US. His wife and kids. I for one live my family more than my brother's family.

Yes I wondered if it made him miss it all or no. His life doesn't look great in LA but then again, he's not exactly welcome with open arms here....

And whose fault is it that he's not welcomed with open arms? It must be very difficult to have a conversation with even a close family member when you know that every word may be taken down, twisted in accordance with an agenda and used against you to make money to maintain the California lifestyle.

Why is he entitled to wear his uniform, nothing stopped him saluting, the epaulettes were removed a long time ago when he gave up his post as AdC and he didnt wear them at his wedding.

As Harry would well know!

antelopevalley · 20/09/2022 12:06

I too think the visit is a reminder of why he left.
There have been so many attacks on Meghan based on nothing.
I think the visit will simply cement his opinion about never returning to the UK.

urgen · 20/09/2022 12:06

He and M can live the life they want. Where I do get mightly annoyed is when they start spouting off their views as though we need to hang onto their every word (and then do the complete opposite themselves).

I think M thought she was going to win the ultimate prize of having the world stage where people would treat her like a godness. When it didnt happen she decided to do the Oprah interview. That went well didnt it...

His life doesn't look great in LA? He lives in mansion in a beautiful sunny place with the woman he loves and his children. He's also less likely to be hounded there by the British press and is away from his emotionally repressed family and doesn't need to follow all the ridiculous royal protocols. Seems like a win win situation for him.

I'd look pretty unhappy too if my every move and facial expression was criticised online and in the press. Just let these people live?!

They've been brought up to expect to be on show in such circumstances and god knows they get paid enough for it.

Harry CHOSE all of that. They're consequences of him leaving the RF.

Sleeplessinstockport · 20/09/2022 12:08

My dh looked unhappy since he got married to me..reason being his family made his ife hell for marrying me..I expect it could be the same for Harry.
Away from his family my DH was as happy as you could ever see him and he still is!

I always find this strange. Everyone I know sees their key family as their spouse and children. But Harry is supposed to see his father, aunt and uncles as more important than his own wife and children.
Many people move abroad with their spouse and children.

He didn’t have the right to wear a uniform . This has been clarified several times .
Charles allowed Andrew and Harry to wear uniform at the vigil but he didn’t have to allow it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/09/2022 12:09

Popping into MMs video by juggling in the background just like a court jester is pretty sad

I thought popping into the one with Serena and making some fatuous comment about her hair was worse - risky, too, since it's often deemed a delicate topic best avoided by white people

However this sort of thing usually comes down to judgement, and to me he doesn't appear to have much
