anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

They must have a good idea on how many are in the queue as they are giving out numbered wristbands, so allowing for a drop out rate, they will know there are X thousand queuing.
They must also by now have a pretty good idea of the people/hour through the hall.
They'll need to account for closures for cleaning, and any planned delay due to the Princes' Vigil tonight.

But I agree they will probably try to over estimate rather than underestimate, and they need to allow for unexpected delays such as guards fainting or whatever.

At least the weather looks good.

They've just announced that tomorrow evening there will be a vigil by the 8 grandchildren.

vera99 · 16/09/2022 09:58

Just announced on LBC that the Queue is now full and not to join it. It will be reviewed in 6 hours.

TeenDivided · 16/09/2022 09:58

They are just saying on the news the queue is 'at capacity'

nachoavocado · 16/09/2022 09:59

I am fascinated by the queue

TeenDivided · 16/09/2022 10:00

Will there be a queue to join the queue?
How do they stop people waiting to join the queue?

BlooberryBiskits · 16/09/2022 10:01

Yes, just on Sky news now the Queue is paused for 6 hours - well, I was wrong, clearly it’s not moving

It will sadly mean some people cannot go at all now, a big shame

A lot of people seem to be strolling straight by now rather than stopping to nod etc.

I've seen a lot more hurrying up of people than on the first day

I am fascinated by the queue

Me too : I think that volunteers will join the end & turn people away.

I believe it won’t be possible to have a large ‘queue to join the queue’ as where would those people stand? The current queue is mostly along the Thames path & some of it is ‘dedicated’ pedestrian only paths / after London Eye it’s a closed space anyway, you can’t wander in and out

Feel really sad for anyone who has traveled in today as it’s v disappointed to be turned back / no guarantee it won’t be the same tomorrow

whynotwhatknot · 16/09/2022 10:07

seems theyre at capacity now the park is getting full and that was always the end point-i fear people will still turn up though just to be turned away

A sub queue. There are going to be people on their way there.

BBC News just asked the question will there be a queue to join the queue

nachoavocado · 16/09/2022 10:10

An hour and a half to get through the massive snake at the end.

TeenDivided · 16/09/2022 10:13

To be honest, I think they need to get more crowd control railings up and put an even longer snake up in Southwark park and onwards. I mean queueing for 15hrs+ sounds amazing but it seems better than sending people away somehow?

The massive snake took me 4 hours on Wed night so that is zipping through!!!

Other people have said 2-3 hours for them last night

Were British we will just form a queue, for a queue without direction unless dispersed form the area 🤣

There are not a lot of open spaces which can be used additionally (maybe there could be a bit of a snake just before Lambeth Bridge)

The queue capacity is also limited by the number of portaloos on the route, and number of volunteers/police to oversee things … so can’t just ‘add snakes’ as no one to patrol/support those extra stretches of queue

Looking at the map, there are only 2 tiny patches of green on the route anyway - Potters Field Park under Tower Bridge and Jubilee Gardens just before Lambeth Bridge (the queue passes both but there isn’t a huge amount of additional space in either)

They've doubled up the queuing inside, not sure when that happened. And they've been hurrying people up. But yes maybe the lady they interviewed lost all sense of time!

Plexie · 16/09/2022 10:33

How do they stop people waiting to join the queue?

If they close the queue to new-joiners for a few hours, the back of the queue will have moved from Southwark Park to somewhere further along the south bank. That place won't be known for a few hours so there won't be a single point for new joiners to congregate in advance. They can spend the morning waiting in the London Bridge/Tower Bridge area but there won't be a single spot to start forming a queue-to-join-the-queue.

vera99 · 16/09/2022 10:35

I'm off to watch the end of The Queue but might be mistaken for being in the sub-queue that may or may not be forming for the The Queue should The Queue be restarted.

Ah yeah! I guess it will go down 6 hours worth of people.

Hello @nachoavocado - my fellow queue obsessive 😃 - can I ask what you mean by ‘doubling up’?

When I was there it was 1 set of about 15 snakes, a gate, false hope you were nearly there, and then another 30 or so snakes right before security - and both were at a standstill due to cleaning inside

I don’t think you can compress the queue more as then there is a lack of capacity for loos etc : the snakes are pretty much fully compressed anyway, & looks like all the earlier section of the queue (before Lambeth Bridge) is now too

vera99 · 16/09/2022 10:38

It would be kind just to say that's it now sorry but the cutoff has happened. A queue to join The Queue is a bit off if it's not official.

But there is loads more time left, 48hours from now is still only Sunday morning, and they will want to allow as many through as possible. It's a conundrum, though presumably they planned for the possibility.

ifonly4 · 16/09/2022 10:42

I reckon people will end up hanging around outside the park and naturally form their own queue. Police and volunteer capacity is going to be very limited in the area, so it'll be hard to move people, especially if they're queuing sensibly and allowing access for people/cars to get through. I think most mounrers be respectful while queuing as they'll want to remain calm at this time.

vera99 · 16/09/2022 10:47

The Queue is now full up so apparently, there is a queue that is forming in the hope of joining The Queue when and if it re-opens. We are off to see this queue and The Queue hopefully it won't need riot police! When is a queue not a queue then that is the queusestion ? James O' Brien is saying that the park may well be closed to stop the crowd coming to watch the queue for The Queue so we may well be outside in some sort of curious genteel mob.
