Can you remember where you went on honeymoon?

Because I can't. Granted it was almost 20 years ago but I have no memory of where we stayed (but I know it was Cornwall). It's freaked me out a bit. Someone asked me about it and it seems to have been wiped from my memory...

I'm feeling slight better now as like some PP have said, I probably don't remember that many specific details because we've visited the same place several times since our honeymoon.

I can, but I can't remember what I did on my 18th or 21sr birthdays

Blossomtoes · 13/07/2023 22:23

Loch Lomond in 2000. The weather was frightful and we didn’t care.

Nassau, The Bahamas. I remember it very clearly actually even though we are divorced now and it was 23 years ago. I remember thinking this is a Once In A Lifetime Holiday, I’ll never be back here again! I’ve been back FOUR times since, only for a day here and there on cruise stops though.

Cuba 15 years ago

Three weeks in Bermuda over 30 years ago. It's a big honeymoon destination for couples from the U.S. but not so much for Brits. (Which we are).
Nice place, great pink sand beaches, lethal rum swizzle cocktails and a local tradition that if you walk together through a 'moon gate' - big circular stone arch - you will have a long and happy marriage. We've had our moments...

No where. We were married with a 2 year old, and we haven’t got anyone who would take child a few nights to look after him. No one did on day or night of wedding either.

We had a 2 and 4 year old. We took them with us. We had a child each in separate rooms. We went to Disney Land Paris for a week 🤯🤯.

We went inter railing round Europe for three weeks and had an absolute blast. Over forty years ago now.

We went to New Zealand for five weeks, 10 years ago. DH has family over there and had worked there for a couple of years on and off.

We hired a car and went travelling both through North Island and South Island. I was 12 weeks pregnant with my eldest so no bungee jumping etc for me but loads of hiking and enjoying the scenery and culture. It was an amazing time and I loved every second of it. We did it for £5k in total inc flights, hiring a 4x4 for the duration, accommodation, food and activities. I refused to slum it as an en-suite was required with regular night time pregnancy wees!

Would go back again like a shot, but sadly with three small children our budget would need to be enormous! So I think it will be a good few years before we make it back. It was an incredible honeymoon, made even more so when we look back with the hindsight of how children impact our current holidaying.

We had a weekend in Brighton followed by 2 weeks in Skiathos. Nearly 35 years ago.

Blueuggboots · 13/07/2023 23:23

Zante the first time.

The Dordogne the second.

caringcarer · 13/07/2023 23:36

I toured around Scottish castles, going up the East side visiting Islands, Isle of Skye, across the top, Orkney and came back down the West side. I had 14 days and such beautiful scenery.

We went to the Maldives, almost 20 years ago. I can't remember the name of the island we stayed on, but I do recall lots of other details: Male, the very densely populated capital; flying in on a yellow seaplane and seeing turquoise lagoons below; staying in a little chalet on stilts with an outdoor bath; going snorkelling and seeing a fellow tourist standing on the coral and great chunks breaking off; huge fruit bats in the evening, and being able to walk around the entire island in about twenty minutes.

However, I can't remember sitting my GCSEs, my last day at school, or any of my DC's first words, unfortunately.

Lake Garda, Venice and Verona - 2003 - divorced now 🤣

Spybot · 14/07/2023 13:30

Kauai, Hawaii in 2005. I was in early pregnancy but I loved every minute. First time I went snorkeling and I spent hours each day looking at the fish and sea life. We went out to a ledge next to deeper water and swam with turtles. Also took a helicopter flight over the island and and saw where parts of Jurassic park was filmed. Didn't like the food but I was pregnant and nothing tasted that good. Would love to go back.

48 years ago. A week on the Norfolk Broads. (stretched the budget for that) 😊

Fabulously quiet with baby ducks, swans and geese turning up for breakfast most mornings.

However, I can’t remember what I did yesterday most days...

I appreciate a Honeymoon is a special holiday, but I find there are two types of people

  1. People who can always remember the places they've been, names, exact location, where they stayed etc.
  2. People like me - who cannot. I suppose I have memories of most holidays but struggle to recall exactly where I've been - would never be able to name town names etc. Cannot often remember even 'whereabouts' I stayed (eg north of the city etc).

Yes, Turunc in Turkey 27 years ago. A little place with a jewellers where I tried on a ring costing £64,000 just for the sheer hell of it (it was so big and gaudy)! Our rep described it as a’one horse town without the horse’ and he wasn’t wrong 😁

Rome and then Sorrento.
