With a note attached saying "For later..." 😢 😢 😢 😢
As a MASSIVE Paddington fan this made me cry more than the taxis lined up in The Mall.... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Someone left broccoli at the palace.

🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 10/09/2022 18:57

The sketch with Paddington was one of the loveliest things she did. Leaving two slices of bread Isn't going to impact anyone negatively. I'm sure no one bats an eyelid at feeding it to ducks. (Not that ray should have bread!)

JackieDaws · 10/09/2022 18:58

Lmao this thread is so unhinged

I don't believe for one minute that anyone on this thread has donated to a food bank. You just want to look oh so superior to the "little people" who've left flowers and a fucking sandwich.

CuteCillian · 10/09/2022 18:58

What a fitting tribute. Someone who was paid to hang out with her for four minutes.
DC was not paid for his input 😉

There's some really po-faced people virtue signalling all over this thread aren't there.

I thought it was very sweet. More interesting than flowers!

But we've all got to display our faux right-on sentiments doncha know!

Petrar · 10/09/2022 18:59

Fucking ridiculous… people need to get a grip.

HM was solely to blame for several hundred years of history.

She was the head of the commonwealth.

Wow, I knew she was old but I didn’t realise she’d been alive for several hundred years!

SomeCleverUsername · 10/09/2022 19:02

@frazzledali 😂

maddiemookins16mum · 10/09/2022 19:02

Only on MN does someone leaving a wrapped marmalade sandwich outside BP turn into (some ridiculous) people replying about food banks and the planet.

Singleandproud · 10/09/2022 19:03

The Paddington link with the Queen is obviously more recently because of the little skit she did for the Jubilee and social media sentimentality.

However, Michael Bond, the Queen (and David Attenborough) were the same age and his work Reflection on the Passing of the Years was read by DA during her 90th birthday celebrations before his death. She had also given MB a CBE and she features in several of the Paddington books.

Paddington is also a bit more loveable than the BFG who also had tea with the Queen.

TheDressinggownofdoom · 10/09/2022 19:04

Has anyone ACTUALLY confirmed that it is marmalade? I can't see the filling from the picture.

Could be a BLT in there for all we know. I need to know more.

Did you just kill off David Attenborough? Because now REALLY isn't the time.

turningpurpleygreen · 10/09/2022 19:11

She lived for 94 years: one
Short skit with PB and that's how she's remembered

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 19:12

If it was left by a child that probably will be what she's remembered by. There are worse things to leave as a memory.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 10/09/2022 19:12

Load of people are hungry and some fool decided to waste it for a dead privileged person. Idiotic

MolkosTeenageAngst · 10/09/2022 19:12

I probably wouldn’t have thought much of it if it was literally just one marmalade sandwich. It’s the fact that it’s a marmalade sandwich in amongst thousands of flowers and other things being donated to a woman who is not here to see or enjoy it in a country where it will just be wasted. I don’t get the mindset of seeing that plenty have already paid their respects but that you also need to add to it even though there is literally so much there the tributes are regularly having to be cleared away.

It puts me in mind of when you’re at a festival and you open the door to a portaloo and it is piled up and overflowing and spilling over onto the floor and you wonder how it got to that state considering the number of people who must have therefore gone in, saw it was already overflowing with waste but still decided to go ahead and use it anyway.

I’m not against the idea of a few people leaving tribute, but surely there comes a point where people think there’s enough crap piled up outside the palace now and decide that actually maybe they can go and do something else if they wish to mark or lay tribute to her passing?

Summerslam · 10/09/2022 19:13

Oh my gosh what have I just read?

beachcomber70 · 10/09/2022 19:14

God there ae some cold, sour, humourless, joy suckers on here. Lighten up, you may enjoy life more.
I will not deter you doing your bit for the planet...as the environmentally aware majority of us are doing anyway without banging on about it.

beachcomber70 · 10/09/2022 19:16

'It' not 'I'.

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 19:21

It'll probably be eaten by a bird/rodent before too long so it won't go to waste.

whynotwhatknot · 10/09/2022 19:21

i thought it was lovely everyone can bore off if they dont like it

Darbs76 · 10/09/2022 19:22

So lovely. I was on the mall when they played that clip for the first time (watching the concert on the mall) and it was so lovely. Very poignant

viques · 10/09/2022 19:27

MolkosTeenageAngst · 10/09/2022 18:34

As much my business to say I think it’s ridiculous as it is anyone else on here’s business to say they think it’s nice/ sweet/ fitting etc surely? She was as much my queen as anyone else’s and I’m entitled to my opinion on her passing as much as anyone else who lived under her reign.

“Joy sucking puritans” . Well much as I hate to suck your joy I find it a bit grim that a sad moment has to be given false joy by someone who didn’t know the woman, or her family but thinks it appropriate to leave a marmalade sandwich for vermin to enjoy. It’s not a joyful occasion, there is no joy to be sucked for her family.

And yes, I too am appalled at the hundreds of thousands of pounds wasted on flowers , teddies, candles and balloons and am more than happy to raise two fingers to the people who can’t even be bothered to take the plastic off the flowers so they can be easily composted afterwards. If you want to make your grief public then leave a message in an online condolence book or line the streets at her funeral but don’t leave piles of rotting flowers for someone else to have to clear up afterwards.
