As a MASSIVE Paddington fan this made me cry more than the taxis lined up in The Mall.... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

But you are complaining about internet use. Which seems pretty hypocritical on a thread about plastic waste.

Christ, we’re in danger of losing our souls as a nation and becoming a homogenous bunch of bores.

Its fine to have a week or two of laying flowers and marmalade sandwiches while simultaneously donating to food banks and recycling our plastics. The big damage to the planet can’t even be touched by berating people for how they choose to express grief.

Don’t some florists use eco cellophane now. The flowers are collected up and used as compost

Agree that little thought goes into the aftermath particularly with balloon releases. In our local cemetary we often see decayed flowers, and abandoned Christmas displays still up in April.

A lovely gesture. We loved the the Paddington video - it was joyful.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. And there was me thinking it was about a marmalade sandwich.

But again, the money used to clean up all the waste and compost the flowers plus cellophane could have been better used towards dealing with one of the many, many charities people in Britain use to survive. A very short time ago we were talking on here about the energy price hike this winter, that hasn’t gone away.

@Pumperthepumper i don’t think that poster is complaining about the use of internet, they are highlighting the hypocrisy of someone complaining about waste of food (by one sandwich) whilst using the internet to make that complaint

Except it isn't a discussion, it's a few posters barking out their orders. Don't place flowers! make a charity donation! give to a food bank! then demanding to know if we recycle, getting sniffily superior about people's behaviour and generally demanding that we wear our environmentally friendly hair shirts and have no emotional responses that they can't understand because they are so effing virtuous.

Saw this yesterday. Some of the notes were quite moving but I loved the marmalade sandwich. I pointed it to little girl. The wicker crown was amazing

I’m saying that you’re being hypocritical by moaning about plastic waste at the palace when it’s clear that you don’t live a carbon neutral lifestyle yourself - you have admitted that you have an iPad, post on mumsnet, buy cat food pouches and so on and so forth.

You are picking and choosing what is acceptable environmental damage and what is not. That makes you a hypocrite.

I know. And I’m highlighting the hypocrisy of someone who recycles while still using the internet. My point is: we don’t need a handful of people living 100% carbon-neutral lives. We need everyone doing their bit to reduce waste.

It's fly tipping, to be blunt.

No one benefits. It has to be cleared away & someone has to pay for that. Piles of rotting flowers, polyester teddies that no one ever loved & now sticky sandwiches drawing flies, because more idiots will decide that marmalade sandwiches are what you do.

Make a marmalade buttie, take a picture & post it on your SM with a meme, by all means. Then have it for breakfast - yum.

I’m not picking and choosing, I’m talking about what counts as reasonable waste. When my cat dies (he’s very old so probably not that far away) I won’t get another pet, so that’s one ticked off my list.

I don’t think I’m the one struggling. You say I’m a hypocrite because I’m not 100% eco-blameless. But neither are you - yet you still recycle. Why?
