As a MASSIVE Paddington fan this made me cry more than the taxis lined up in The Mall.... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

You have saved me a lot of typing. Couldn't agree more!

Yep, what Wombat said.

There are some proper bloody bellends on this thread. The OP posted a sweet tribute to The Queen. If you don’t like it, just scroll by. The amount of people getting their knickers in a twist about one marmalade sandwich is remarkable.

Thank you ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

@Wombat100 Couldn't have put it better myself. A lovely sweet tribute to our beautiful Queen. Some folk can't even allow that. :-(

I just don’t understand how people can be so bitter about seemingly EVERYTHING. They must lead very sad lives.

userxx · 10/09/2022 20:52

@Wombat100 There's some miserable fuckers here, that's for sure.

VitualInsanity · 10/09/2022 20:52

@CovertImage you were right on the money there.

My first thought on seeing the thread title was "but it'll attract some ants"

My first thought on seeing the thread title was "but it'll attract some cunts"

^ This. And haven't they come pouring out of the gutter since the Queen passed, on here and other threads. So many of them.

This is modern Britain and 'woke land'. This is what we have bought up.

I agree. It’s sickening.

There are plenty of threads about food banks & poverty.

Stop virtue signalling over one marmalade sandwich that's bringing a smile to many, possibly someone whose MH is in a bad place.

@Elderflower14 I'd heard about it & it made me cry, but seeing the photo has started me off again.

While I was reading some of the 'donate to a food bank! don't lay flowers! wastefulwastefulwasteful! environmentenvironmentenvironment!' gauleiters I had a phrase pop into my head. Don't know where it came from, I read it somewhere, but it describes someone as being 'unremittingly conscious of their own virtues' - which seemed to sum them up to a T. I can only imagine they are unbearable (hah , see what I did there?) in real life.

Wombat100 · 10/09/2022 20:55

It's a marmalade sandwich, not the contents of fucking Asda.

🤣🤣🤣 I laughed out loud

That’s how I feel. I read the thread and thought ‘that’s ridiculous’ and assumed this would be a thread where the OP was here to say just that. Didn’t realise anybody would actually think this is a nice thing to do, especially in a country where so many are going to be facing food poverty this winter and in a world where around 1600 worldwide die of hunger each day. The country has actually gone mad! If people want to virtue signal they’d be better donating to a food bank or a charity which provides food to countries facing famine etc rather than leaving a plastic wrapped sandwich to decompose on the street in the memory of a woman who lived to a grand old age and likely never experienced a moment of hunger in her life.

Maybe someone couldn't afford flowers but they had plenty of bread?

I’m sure. But the collective funds to a good bank charity instead of the laying of crap would have brought food and nourishment to many whose MH was in a bad place.

Blossomtoes · 10/09/2022 20:45

Apparently she requested it. For the great grandchildren I imagine.

I don’t think that’s true, based on the PR statement.

VitualInsanity · 10/09/2022 20:57

Two slices of bread and possibly a bit of marmalade must be all of 50p.

Worth it for the smile it gives alone.

I think thats really sweet, made me well up a bit..

turningpurpleygreen · 10/09/2022 21:02

I hear she liked a gin and dubonnet

Why hasnt anyone left her a glass?

She will want that later to wash down the sanger

Sparklybutold · 10/09/2022 21:03

@been and done it.

There's this assumption by you and others that those that don't agree with all of this sanctimonious performative shite that we’re somehow emotionless. Ironically this couldn't be further from the truth. We have perspective. The queen enjoyed a life with the best of everything, and yet we mourn the loss of this woman? We have put someone we don't know on a pedestal and weep and cry??? And yet I bet for a lot of these mourners they won't give a second glance to people who actually need support and help. It's nauseating.

Rustylee681 · 10/09/2022 21:04

Its so nice when the nation comes together, even if it is under sad circumstances,😪

That does seem to sum them up perfectly!! 😅 I might steal the phrase if you don’t mind.

Also, it does strike me as slightly hypocritical that the people moaning about the environmental impact of a bit of cling film/a bunch of carnations are using the internet to post here….that’s not very environmentally friendly is it?

And as to the sheer and abject HORROR of wasting a whole two slices of bread and a bit of marmalade, I can only imagine that the posters never leave a mere crumb on their plates; after all, that crumb could be donated to a food bank.

God give me strength.

ps Love the Paddington reference; full marks. Bet that’ll piss the grumps off even more 😁

inappropriateraspberry · 10/09/2022 20:34

How ridiculous. Give a loaf of bread to a food bank instead. All this crap outside the palace and elsewhere. So wasteful.

Maybe they didn't have a loaf of bread and I don't think the foodbank could do much with two slices and a scrape of marmalade. Now the flowers, they are a different matter and very wasteful but two slices of bread? Really?
