M&S statement re The Queen

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 13:19

I find it really odd that M&S have chosen to email me a statement about the Queen. Everywhere else just seems to be putting it on their website. It's not saying their shops are closed or anything. It just seems a strange thing to do. Is that just me?

Does seem a bit odd. Maybe done in error.

Randomcommentary · 09/09/2022 13:23

It’s stealth marketing

FawnFrenchieMum · 09/09/2022 13:24

I've had a few emails with statements off the top of my head, M&S, Yours clothing plus a couple of others.

Maybe they have less online customers? who knows, a little strange.

It didn't sit right with me. I was like "not now!".

Its 'performance grief by a commercial company.
I'm a member of the Royal British Legion. They sent an email. Because She was their Patron. It's different.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 09/09/2022 13:25

It’s in keeping with the “it’s your m and s” theme/advertising feel. Makes it seem like you are the most important person to them iyswim. The brand loyalty to you as an invidual consumer being re-elected back to them as it somehow makes you feel wanted and cared for ??

hopeishere · 09/09/2022 13:25

I've had them from:
Hush
Cefinn
M&S
Fortnum and Mason

So far...

ThickCutSteakChips · 09/09/2022 13:26

Have you seen the Ann Summers website?!

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 13:27

The worst one I received was from a pizza franchise I used once over lockdown.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 13:27

It's really put me off them tbh.

I remember Waitrose doing this when Prince Phillip died - must go and see if they've done it again.

But they held her Royal Warrant, so I see the connection. I don't think M&S hold a warrant though. So I guess they simply think it's something that goes down well with their core customers

VenusClapTrap · 09/09/2022 13:31

They’re all at it. My inbox was full of these this morning, from every company and organisation that spam me. I just rolled my eyes and deleted them.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 09/09/2022 13:37

This stuff starts small and snowballs. One fretting brand manager will have decided, at 8.57 this morning, that Shippams Paste or Nissan or Steele's Pots and Pans (or whoever) needs to Say Something.

Then other brand managers will see it and before you know it, graphic designers up and down the country are being leaned on to create 'respectful' lock-ups for websites and emails.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 13:38

Oh just had another one - they are all at it!

Why do I need a mailbox full of pictures of the Queen?

I've had similar emails from Debretts, Seasalt & Fortnum & Mason plus a few more.

The Debretts one makes the most sense & links to a guide on Royal ceremonies & what happens during an ascension.

Most are just spammy.

idonotmind · 09/09/2022 13:39

ELC did the same

Oldrockingchair · 09/09/2022 13:39

I’ve not had one! Maybe they know I’m a republican 🤷‍♀️

Its not the same thing but I got an email from The Entertainer telling me they're shut today. 🤷‍♀️ Whatever, it's your business to sabotage, Entertainer.

Hmm even if they have a royal warrant they could put it on their website. They wouldn't post things if she had died pre Internet presumably?

I mean that just about seems fair enough.

Have you seen the Ann Summers website?!

I read your comment so went to have a look. Immediately a pop up saying 'can we seduce you?' appeared over their 'tribute.' Vile.

It's what she would have wanted.

Ship · 09/09/2022 13:42

I had one from moltum brown - something about how they honour the queen. I didn’t appreciate it- it’s using the queen as a way to market themselves

PAFMO · 09/09/2022 13:42

I've had loads from companies I buy online from and am signed up to.

Rapidtango · 09/09/2022 13:44

The only one I've received was from the RSPB - the Queen was their patron, they're not trying to shill bird seed or binoculars so I think it's in keeping, but businesses as above - cynical marketing ploy only fit for deletion.
