M&S statement re The Queen

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 13:19

I find it really odd that M&S have chosen to email me a statement about the Queen. Everywhere else just seems to be putting it on their website. It's not saying their shops are closed or anything. It just seems a strange thing to do. Is that just me?

It’s in keeping with the “it’s your m and s” theme/advertising feel. Makes it seem like you are the most important person to them iyswim. The brand loyalty to you as an invidual consumer being re-elected back to them as it somehow makes you feel wanted and cared for ??

Sorry, what?!? That was extreme word-acrobatics you did there!

I mean that just about seems fair enough.

Yeah ok, I can see how it would be helpful if I'd been planning a trip into town today specifically to go to The Entertainer.

The only Queen related email notification I’ve received is from someone on NextDoor who’s posted this morning that the Queen has died.

Finger on the pulse there, Lorna.

I've had similar emails from Debretts, Seasalt & Fortnum & Mason plus a few more.

The Debretts one makes the most sense & links to a guide on Royal ceremonies & what happens during an ascension.

Yes. I feel the same goes for this from The British Kebab Awards.

I hated it and found it quite triggering. I don’t give a shit what M&S think about the Queen’s passing. I’d prefer them to email me to tell me they’ve decided to protect single sex changing rooms and measures to stop pervs enjoying themselves in the womens underwear tbh.

nocoolnamesleft · 09/09/2022 13:46

Cunard also emailed.

icebearforpresident · 09/09/2022 13:50

Add P&O cruises and Simply be to the list.

Hambledy · 09/09/2022 13:51

I got one from Kieth starmer about her.

I don't know what he said because I haven't opened it

Waynettaaa · 09/09/2022 13:56

I received it too, and one from Yours Clothing 🤨

rrtu · 09/09/2022 13:56

I got one from my kids' school

FourChimneys · 09/09/2022 13:58

UWhatNow my local ish M&S has a formidable woman supervising the changing rooms. I asked her once about her stance on men in the women's changing rooms. Her reply suggested that any man trying it on would be grateful to leave the shop with his genitals intact. She did admit that her policy and company policy were not completely aligned 😂

Roselilly36 · 09/09/2022 14:00

Yes, I have had loads of these emails too. It’s very poor IMHO, yes I agree a tribute on their homepage is to be expected but not emails to their database. It’s seemed that if one business does this others copy.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 14:03

It feels like improper use of my data tbh. I know the Queen has died I signed up for marketing emails not statements about the Queen. Although yes these are really marketing emails in disguise - I'm sure they'd claim they aren't.

Got the same. Tacky!

jennakong · 09/09/2022 14:07

One minute flinging pronoun badges about, inviting fetishists into their female changing rooms, then trying to emphasise their traditional British values and win back their alienated customers (or their money, more like). What a shower.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 09/09/2022 14:08

I had this too, mentioned it on another thread. It's crass. Post it on your website by all means but don't spam e-mail people. Ugh.

M&S and P&O ferries so far. Went onto Quidco this morning and there's a statement on their website, that's fine.

justasking111 · 09/09/2022 14:12

They're all doing it. Email, Instagram it's relentless

I've also had a few, including M&S. I've also had 4 from my work from late yesterday afternoon into this morning (in work email) offering details of the support number for staff etc. And yet absolutely none over the last few months about the cost of living crisis and how staff might be struggling.

Nothing against the queen and I'm sorry for her loss to her family and the country, but I'm hacked off at my company being so two faced.

ThickCutSteakChips · 09/09/2022 13:26

Have you seen the Ann Summers website?!

Oh my fucking god.

evilharpy · 09/09/2022 14:14

Add Monica Vinader to the list.

vroom321 · 09/09/2022 14:15

I've had one from school saying they will support the children.

TheClitterati · 09/09/2022 14:15

hit UNSUBSCRIBE at the bottom of every email like this you receive - they will get the message.

Nah. They'll get away with calling it a service message, which is different from marketing. And it's not marketing because there are no products shown and there's no clicky link to the M&S website. (You click on the Queen's image and it just loads the picture in the browser.)

Not saying it isn't a bit clunky, because it is. But it's not marketing.

PinkHeadphones · 09/09/2022 14:26

I unsubscribed from M&S yesterday because they have pissed me off by moving from our high street to an out of town retail park so I didn't get it, but DH did and instantly unsubscribed. I wonder if anyone is tracking this at M&S.
