On the back of the Past Times thread. What shops do you miss:

I miss

Coast (I know it’s online but it’s gone a bit shit)
Ravel
Morgan ( well my youthful self misses it)
Disney Store I know there is one in London but there used to be one in almost every town
Bay Trading (always good for a nice top to go with jeans)

Woolworths - was a great one stop shop. Ours even sold food

HaPPy8 · 28/08/2022 13:39

Kookai and oasis 😞

Crumblierthanfeta · 28/08/2022 13:42

Woolworths- purely for pick and mix
Borders bookstore

Keyansier · 28/08/2022 13:57

I used to love going round Woolworths and eating the pick an mix (that I sometimes did or did not pay for)😂

I also miss the Disney Shop.

anotherpotoftea · 28/08/2022 14:03

Cactuslove · 28/08/2022 14:06

Kookai and oasis 😞

Yes to these 😭

ToffeeNotCoffee · 28/08/2022 14:08

Agree with Woolworths.

HMV.

newtb · 28/08/2022 14:10

North west only, but Ethel Austin. Used to be the place to go for long t-shirts for the delivery room. Also children's clothes and 'big knickers'.

Violettaa · 28/08/2022 14:10

The Oxford Circus Topshop.

I spent a ridiculously large percentage of my teenage years in there, and even recently I liked the massive shoe selection.

Triffid1 · 28/08/2022 14:10

Pier

Cheshiresun · 28/08/2022 14:11

Going way back, when I was a child but going to Toys R Us, it was fantastic back then. Ethel Austins with my mum! C&A.

HMV is making a comeback! They are popping up everywhere now.

Cheshiresun · 28/08/2022 14:12

Oh and TJ Hughes, not sure if they are around still in some places? But seemed to be massive.

HappyHamsters · 28/08/2022 14:12

User4668430 · 28/08/2022 14:14

House of Fraser, I don't count its reincarnation as Sports Direct, Woolworths and there used to be a kitchen shop that sold houseware and kitchenware, there was one in Peterborough but I can't remember what it was called.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 28/08/2022 14:16

Our Price, FHW, John Menzies, Circle K.

notprincehamlet · 28/08/2022 14:16

Browns of Chester - started by two sisters, closed when Debenhams went to the wall having been around for nearly 250 years

Cheshiresun · 28/08/2022 14:17

Lewis's - another massive department store. Spectacular displays & grotto at Christmas. (Not to be confused with John Lewis)

Snap! I haven’t bought a bra since they closed. I’m a larger cup size and tried some in M&S last week and it was like wearing barbed wire.

I also miss Laura Ashley in my local high street. It was one of my favourite browsing shops.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 28/08/2022 14:23

I miss all of them, as I hate online shopping with a passion.
It used to be my treat to myself on my days off to go into town and wander round the shops.
I especially miss Debenhams, because it had Wallis and DP. BHS for good swimwear and Christmas bits.
Also Oasis, Warehouse, Laura Ashley, and shoe shops such as Dolcis, Freeman Hardy and Willis.
So many gone forever. I suppose it’s saved me money. 🙄

MrsOrMiss · 28/08/2022 14:23

C&A are still around in Europe, spent a few hours there this summer. Bought decent knee shorts, longer length tops and a Drindl. Just wish it was still 'here'.

Cheshiresun · 28/08/2022 14:28

Athena - many a teen poster and pictures bought there.

All our towns and cities look the same now, same shops everywhere, seems to be less choice.
