On the back of the Past Times thread. What shops do you miss:

I miss

Coast (I know it’s online but it’s gone a bit shit)
Ravel
Morgan ( well my youthful self misses it)
Disney Store I know there is one in London but there used to be one in almost every town
Bay Trading (always good for a nice top to go with jeans)

Top Shop - still can’t believe it’s gone
Kew - Jigsaw’s cheaper sibling, which inexplicably changed and became shit, and then shut down
Neal Street East - not over its disappearance at all
Shu Uemura

I was falsely accused of shoplifting in Pilot when I was 16.

The manager and her assistant physically dragged me through the store and locked me in an office, the whole time screaming at me and threatening me with all sorts. All very upsetting and traumatic.

Anyway, my parents went fucking mental over the whole thing, took legal action against them and I ended up with a whacking great cheque for compensation.

I've often wondered if the money they had to pay out contributed to their downfall!

Thinking about it where do you go now if you are setting up home for the first time? I remember me and DH walking around The Pier, Habitat, Alders and Debenhams etc picking out home stuff. Where would you do that now?

When we first moved to this town it had 4 department stores in the town centre. Alders, Debenhams, Co-Op and an independent. There was also BHS. Now the only one left is the independent and I think they only keep going because they sell the uniforms for the local schools.

I really, really, REALLY miss "The Cookie Jar". I remember Millie's cookies started popping up, then they bought Cookie Jar out and within a year, all had been converted to Millie's. There are NO cookies as good as cookie jar cookies and this makes some sad.

I also miss BHS for Xmas shopping!

Is the Gadget Shop still around? I've not seen it in years but loved that!

iwishihadaname · 29/08/2022 03:52

kaliko

select is still around

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/08/2022 05:24

As per previous posters The Pier. I loved that shop.
I also liked a shop called Evolution which used to sell wind chimes, crystals, Buddha's, crystals and the like. No need for any of the items but used to enjoy wandering around.
As a teen in the late 90's/early 00's there used to be lots of those kinds of shops. Lots where you could mags your own necklaces from beads and buy velvet mirrored skirts and the like. All gone now.

Joshanddonna · 29/08/2022 05:25

Allders - a great department store.
Woolworths
C&A
BHS

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/08/2022 05:31

Oh and the body shop as it was in the 90s. I loved their little soaps, bubble baths and their dewberry body mist.
It always feels very soulless in there now.

Pikafuckingwho · 29/08/2022 08:02

Every time I go to body shop someone jumps on me and tells me how old I look and suggests that fucking drops of youth. 😂

Reject Shop, Miss Selfridge and Principles.
