On the back of the Past Times thread. What shops do you miss:

I miss

Coast (I know it’s online but it’s gone a bit shit)
Ravel
Morgan ( well my youthful self misses it)
Disney Store I know there is one in London but there used to be one in almost every town
Bay Trading (always good for a nice top to go with jeans)

I miss:
Principles. some dodgy knitwear but really great seperates and dresses.
Debehams for lighting, Designers like '9 Savannah Miller' and their decent furniture
Woolworths for household stuff and their cafe
Allders
House of Fraser (lets face it it has gone down hill)
Coast for 'occasion wear'
Topshop for their excellent makeup and jeans. I know its on asos but its not the same.

I had a dress from Principles in about 1999. It was a charcoal black, tailored, partly backless but at the front it was cut straight across from shoulder to shoulder. Straight skirt to my knee.
I loved that dress, I wore it to death.
Their sales were great, that cost me £10 in the sale and I got every job I ever wore it to interview at, with a blazer.

Yeh, interesting that the designers went to mint velvet, I like their stuff too but it's more flotaty and bat wingy

I miss the old Manchester Corn Exchange pre 1995. Before the IRA bomb and it got rebuilt expensively with fancy pants shops and restaurants in there, instead of hippy shops and interesting little random stalls.

Also really miss Debenhams. Had lots of my favourite brands all in one place, plus the j jasper conran pjs were so comfy (mine are starting to get thin and sad) and their swimwear was good, and DH really misses mantaray as he’s too tight to buy the same stuff in white stuff or fat face 😁

HMV in terms of there being lots of big shops you can browse around in. It was like an immersive thinking-about-music experience. Always go in one if we find one!

I miss:

Principles
Debenhams
Allders
BHS - especially their Christmas ship and lighting
Dolcis
The Pier - always good for gifts, especially their hand painted baubles with the year on at Christmas which were good as commemorative gifts for friends who had got married that year or had significant birthdays.
Past Times (although the online Museum Shop is similar). Again was good for interesting different gifts.

To be fair I find there are far more individual shops now rather than chains. Certainly that's the case in my local town and our surrounding villages. Perhaps that's the way the high street is evolving.
