Intense stomach pain...anyone else had similar?

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 15:41

Since 1pm yesterday I developed excruciating stomach pain/stabbing/cramps. It comes in episodes. So my whole tummy area from a few inches above my belly button, to the pelvic area is constantly sore and tender- really hurts if I press on it.
However every 20-30 mins I get severe pain which doubles me over and I can't do anything.
I also have a very slight temp and can feel sick with the pain.
However no diarrhoea.

I don't want to bother the GP as it'll probably go on its own. I'm wondering if it's a tummy bug but without the diarrhea.

Going to buy an over the counter UTI testing kit shortly as I've been weeing more for the last 2 week (waking around 3 times a night). However I've had UTI's in the past and the symptoms are nothing like this. It's not uncomfortable to wee, no burning or urgency, or feeling like I can't empty my bladder.

Anyone experienced similar?

Please have this checked with a doctor. Not to worry you but I had similar it was appendicitis (which doesn't just hurt you on the left side but all over ........ who knew!!!)

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 15:48

@CourageCalls2Courage thank you for your reply. I never thought about this!

Was the pain constant for you? Because I have some constant pain but I then get the waves of pain where I struggle to stand straight.

How long did you have the pain before seeing a doctor or getting diagnosed?

That really is something you should bother a doctor about. Get it checked out.

Are you me? This has been affecting me for a month!!!

I’ve been to the hospital 4 times lately for various tests including blood tests, urine samples, CT scan, MRI and an ultrasound.

All is completely clear.

It’s only starting to ease now but I still get pains and a dicky tummy.

CourageCalls2Courage · 25/08/2022 15:51

It was as you described (constant but then waves). It might not even be the same however I don't think it's normal so you should definitely have it checked out. I had it in the morning then by night was examined by the OOO GP. Admitted straight away had the OP next day.

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 17:14

Thanks all. I've phoned the GP surgery, explained my symptoms and just said I wanted some advice and maybe to arrange a urine dip, she said we don't book any appointments over the phone, you need to go online. I said when the pain is at its worse, I struggle to stand. She repeated, you need to go online and fill out a form.
Assume l will hear back tomorrow.

I feel stupid contacting GP as it comes and goes. I'm on 90mg codeine and it does help with the pain. Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow!

Strathyre · 25/08/2022 17:43

Please make sure you do get checked, that means 111 if you don't hear from the GP. Just because it's intermittent doesn't mean it couldn't be serious.

If you do get diarrhea which is black and tarry or smells metallic, go to A&E straight away.

QuattroFormaggi · 25/08/2022 18:51

Google Helicobacter Pylori. I had similar symptoms. It's a simple gut bacteria which can be killed off with strong antibiotics. Ask your GP for a stool sample kit which can be tested for H.Pylori. It's quick and easy to do. In my experience, very few GPs rule this out, but it's extremely common.

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 19:41

I did the online consult and the GP called me in straight away. She ruled out a UTI and said because the tenderness is located around my appendix area and I have a temp, I have to go to hospital to be assessed at the surgical unit. I feel so embarrassed. It'll be a waste of their time!

PutYourBackIntoit · 25/08/2022 19:46

Glad you're getting checked out OP, and I hope the pain subsides.

I had to take a day off work last week with this. I am baffled by what it could have been. At the time I was positive it had to be food poisoning but I had no d&v, slight temp and the pain was unbearable.
It died down a little in the afternoon but I felt clammy and pretty dreadful.

Absolutely fine the next day, and since!

BorisJohnsonsHair · 25/08/2022 20:00

Wishing you well OP Flowers

Darkness22 · 25/08/2022 20:04

Good luck, op. Stop worrying about wasting their time. That level of pain is not normal and a gp has told you to go.

tonicwaters · 25/08/2022 20:06

Why would you be embarrassed at the hospital when the GP is sending you there. Does GP give you a letter or text or something to show the hospital?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 25/08/2022 20:07

IBS.

I have it and this was how it was diagnosed.

Felt a bit tender around belly button and lower area, would randomly get unbelievable cramps, like doubling over, heavy breathing, groaning, almost white hot pain. It would come and go, so would have several cramps in the space of about 5-10 mins then would settle down and just be a dull ache.

Seemingly no triggers either (never kept a food diary though).

OpposableThumbs2 · 25/08/2022 20:12

I have something similar last year. GP thought possible appendicitis but turned out to be diverticulitis. Spent 2 nights in hospital on various drips. The raised temperature could mean an infection.

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 20:58

Just got here...well I got completely lost, went to ED first for a Covid test as I was told to but apparently I shouldn't have gone there. Found another lady who books you in who seemed annoyed I'd been told I needed a Covid test, then she left me with a nurse who Covid tested me. So no idea what's going on. However I have to wait 20 mins for the results before even going to Surgical Assessment.

I feel stupid because I haven't had the bouts of severe pain since 4pm! I just feel a little uncomfortable and nauseous and have the pain when my tummy/lower right area is pressed. I feel like a complete fraud being here.

Hope it comes to nothing, OP, but you've done the right thing getting checked out. My DD had a rough 12 hours on and off before I cottoned on something wasn't right, DH even though I was jumping to conclusions. By the time she was operated on she had a badly infected appendix and was under far longer than expected. She was fine in the end, but wish I'd got her checked out.

PutYourBackIntoit · 25/08/2022 23:24

How are you OP?

SNWannabe · 25/08/2022 23:28

@Somethingtoask how are you now? The fact the pain went away and you felt sick is really worrying so I’m glad you’re in hospital (and suspect you may be under the knife!!) 🌸

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 23:31

Thank you both for asking. I've seen the nurse, had obs done and and got a cannula in, just incase I need a CT scan. Not yet seen the doctor. It's going to be a long night!

OP posts:
QuestionableMouse · 25/08/2022 23:34

Sounds just like the symptoms my nephew had for appendicitis.

Why did you leave it for so long?

Unexpected severe pain is a medical emergency and needs to be checked out!

YelloCar · 26/08/2022 00:22

I had similar, turned out to be endometriosis.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 00:32

I lef tit because yesterday we travelled back from holiday and didn't get home until 10pm. It was a nightmare going through the airport with the kids, I kept Keeling over in pain.

Just seen the Dr. He said bloods mostly ok but inflammatory marker slightly raised. Could be appendix but he's not 100% convinced. He wants me to stay overnight for monitoring and do ultrasound in the morning. If I stay overnight, I'm sat in the waiting room in a chair. I said I want to go home tonight.
He's going to ask his colleague and see what he says. Partner is mad because I've said I refuse to stay here overnight. The pain is less severe than yesterday. This is a bright waiting room with uncomfortable chairs, I can't sit here all night to be observed!

OP posts:
Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 00:33

I've not had anything to drink for 10 hours either and not eaten all day!

OP posts:
notangelinajolie · 26/08/2022 00:37

I had inflammatory markers and suspected appendicitis. CT scan disagreed. I had internal bleeding. You don’t know what is wrong and nor do the doctors. Stay in and wait for a scan.
