Intense stomach pain...anyone else had similar?

Since 1pm yesterday I developed excruciating stomach pain/stabbing/cramps. It comes in episodes. So my whole tummy area from a few inches above my belly button, to the pelvic area is constantly sore and tender- really hurts if I press on it.
However every 20-30 mins I get severe pain which doubles me over and I can't do anything.
I also have a very slight temp and can feel sick with the pain.
However no diarrhoea.

I don't want to bother the GP as it'll probably go on its own. I'm wondering if it's a tummy bug but without the diarrhea.

Going to buy an over the counter UTI testing kit shortly as I've been weeing more for the last 2 week (waking around 3 times a night). However I've had UTI's in the past and the symptoms are nothing like this. It's not uncomfortable to wee, no burning or urgency, or feeling like I can't empty my bladder.

Anyone experienced similar?

I've been seen by a more senior Dr, going to have a CT scan soon. Which I suppose is good news because at least I'll know for certain if something is wrong and if not I can go home!

Good luck OP. I started a thread about this in health with these exact symptoms - intermittent severe left hand pain. Doctor had a feel about and wasn't sure but thought gastritis. Scan showed gallstones. Inflammatory markers were high. On the list now to get the gallbladder out. Hope you get answers soon Flowers

SpotOnMyBot · 26/08/2022 00:57

Poor you! Fingers crossed they sort you out soon.

I had similar a few years ago, never felt pain like it. It was diverticulitis but quite a severe infection with it. Spent a few days in hospital as needed iv pain relief and anti biotics

BritInAus · 26/08/2022 01:22

Hope you're ok OP. Never understand why people worry about 'bothering' a doctor. Their job is literally to see and assess sick people!

DisneyDisneyDisney · 26/08/2022 01:35

I had this in February and they diagnosed gastroenteritis but I knew it wasn’t. It flared up again 2 months ago and I went to the doctor who sent me to the surgical unit. Next morning, I had my appendix out! They were amazed as the pain was all over the place but the CT scan showed appendicitis. Hope you get some answers.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 01:38

I don't think I'm in enough pain for my appendix. It was excruciating yesterday but those waves have not happened since earlier today. Just really tender and radiating pain upon examination. Just looking forward to my bed now.

I wouldn’t be so sure, my pain lasted a week and was on and off, sometimes just abit achy and other times drop to your knees doubled over type pain, after 6 days I got seen at hospital, was my appendix, ready to burst

Absolutely, yes.

The pain came in waves for hours, and then a small person emerged from me.

Weirdest Saturday ever.

Whatever the issue is with you though you really need to cal 111, or if it’s serious enough get to A&E. Lots of different things could cause this, and you should get it checked out.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 01:53

@makingmiracles that's interesting to hear! I'd assume the pain would get worse. When the pain initially started, it was higher up and I didn't have pain in the appendix area, that started today. It's lucky you got seen in time..I suppose nobody really knows what's going on until the scans are done.

@PasTrop definitely no small people emerging from me! 😂

What did you eat before the pain started?

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 02:08

@mackthepony the pain started at 1pm yesterday and I didn't eat anything at all that day. I ate last the night before at 10pm; some pasta, scampi and a piece of beef pie (random mix of what was left in the fridge for the last night of holiday).

mackthepony · 26/08/2022 02:12

Oh that's so strange. I once ate reheated rice and had the worst pain imaginable. Was on the point of going to hospital. It was as bad as labour pains!

Hope you feel better soon.

Threelittlelambs · 26/08/2022 02:19

Fingers crossed you get seen quickly. I had similar with hall stones but was being sick. Does sound like appendix.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 02:26

Still waiting for the CT scan. Can't wait to get home to bed!

Good luck, I e not read the whole thread but have they done a scan for gall stones. They can be debilitating leaving you in pain on the floor, only to then be okay 20 mins later then hit again at an unknown point

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 03:08

@Scepticalwotsits just had the scan and it's being read. So hopefully all being well, I should make it home by 5am.

They don't think it's gallstone because they examined me and said the area is nice and soft and no pain there.

I've got my results and I'm now scared. My appendix is fine. However I have some bowel issue, some inflammation and he was asking me a lot of questions. Not sure what it means. I also have a bulky womb and some issues there. I need to stay and see the consultant in the morning. I'm terrified.

OP posts:
Crappydoo · 26/08/2022 04:26

I'm awake if you need someone to talk to. How are you feeling physically?

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 04:30

Thank you so much @Crappydoo, can you not sleep?

Physically I'm ok, still got some pain but not as bad as it was. I'm terrified now something is seriously wrong with me. I seemed to have several issues but everything seemed to warrant further investigation. I'm too scared to Google anything they said and terrified I'm going to die!

OP posts:
Stickmansmum · 26/08/2022 04:37

OP deep breaths! You’re spiralling which is understandable after no sleep or food for hours! Focus on the fact that your pain is improved from yesterday. Something is annoying your belly but it might be on the way out anyway. You’re in exactly the right place to get thoroughly checked and they will sort you out.

MistyRock · 26/08/2022 04:37

It all sounds very similar to my Crohns pain. The pain comes in waves, each wave getting stronger. Mostly pain around the belly button. Mine only subsidies after a bowel movement or being sick. If they think it's IBD you will have a colonoscopy and MRI. Good luck. I know exactly how you feel.

MistyRock · 26/08/2022 04:38

I'm no expert but I honestly don't think you are going to die. You are exactly where you need to be. If you start to feel worse they are there to help you.

Crappydoo · 26/08/2022 04:40

Ha! No I quite often wake up at this time no idea why!

Definitely a good idea not to Google anything at the moment if you can bear not to. Are you in a bed now or still in the horrible waiting room? I know it must be scary but they have to cover all angles and there still could be a simple explanation. Sometimes things like this pass with no explanation. My 76 year old Dad was in hospital recently very poorly and they didn't get to the bottom of the cause. Really difficult not to I know but please try not to worry xx

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 05:02

Thank you all. I'm literally shaking and you've made me feel a little better. They did mention IBD, although I've not had bowel symptoms as such but they asked if I had any family history. I think he said I had some inflammation on the small bowel.
It's the womb/pelvic issues that are worrying me. I've had gynae issues for a while. They were asking about my smears and he said the records show I missed some,.I haven't! I've had abnormal smears in the past so I'd never knowingly not attend for a smear. I'm scared I have cervical cancer and worried about my children. It's horrible having nobody to speak to at this time of night.
