Intense stomach pain...anyone else had similar?

Somethingtoask · 25/08/2022 15:41

Since 1pm yesterday I developed excruciating stomach pain/stabbing/cramps. It comes in episodes. So my whole tummy area from a few inches above my belly button, to the pelvic area is constantly sore and tender- really hurts if I press on it.
However every 20-30 mins I get severe pain which doubles me over and I can't do anything.
I also have a very slight temp and can feel sick with the pain.
However no diarrhoea.

I don't want to bother the GP as it'll probably go on its own. I'm wondering if it's a tummy bug but without the diarrhea.

Going to buy an over the counter UTI testing kit shortly as I've been weeing more for the last 2 week (waking around 3 times a night). However I've had UTI's in the past and the symptoms are nothing like this. It's not uncomfortable to wee, no burning or urgency, or feeling like I can't empty my bladder.

Anyone experienced similar?

I'm awake too. The not knowing and spiralling panic I can relate to. Stay calm, what is happening next? Are you waiting to speak to a consultant about the scan?

SpotOnMyBot · 26/08/2022 05:14

It's good that you are seeing a consultant in the morning - is there any way you can write a list of questions on your phone in case you are really tired/scared and forget something you might want to ask?

Bulky womb often used when there are fibroids which are quite common as we get older!

Hope you’re ok OP. Are you in a bed now?

Try to get some sleep, you must be exhausted. Good job you went in though. You're in the best place to find out what's going on and get the treatment you need. Good luck.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 05:22

@Bezzi I'm waiting to see the consultant in the morning (around 7.30). They said I could go home but by the time I got there, I'd only have 2 hours sleep and have to be back here. Although I wish I had gone home just to wake my partner and talk to him.

@SpotOnMyBot I'm literally terrified of.seeing them and knowing anything. I know it's illogical but part of me.wants to run away and not hear it. I don't even know what he was getting at and was honestly too scared to ask.

@1AngelicFruitCake thank you. I'm sat in a reclining chair but shaking and feel sick due to nerves, I'll never sleep 😢

Terrified it's cancer.

Yes I'm very like you and would be doing exactly the same. Happy to know everything about everyone else's health problems but quite content to know nothing about my own :).

Is there anything that can distract you for a few hours? I think it was a good idea to stay so that you don't miss the consultant when he/she comes round!

EntertainingandFactual · 26/08/2022 05:39

Hope everything goes ok for you today OP.

1AngelicFruitCake · 26/08/2022 05:41

@Somethingtoask could you find something to read to pass the time? I find celebrity scandals or crime mysteries good to get lost in. Hope you’re ok x

MistyRock · 26/08/2022 05:42

When I was first investigated for my IBD the GP thought I might have a grumbling appendix, then he tested me for ovarian cancer (blood test) and he got me to take the chlamydia test. All negative obviously. The thing is everything is around that area. I was worried that I may have cancer too. Honestly what you are feeling is completely normal. The what ifs are the worst thing. You are doing amazingly well. I'm also a mum and it's a big worry. This was 7 or 8 years ago.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 07:42

I've had no sleep. They basically give you a chair to sleep in but the ward is used as a corridor and people were constantly walking past, security, other staff etc. 6.30 loads of new staff arrived and they were basically shouting to each other from one end of the "ward" to another.
They wanted my chair in the assessment unit for someone else, so I've been moved on my own.to a room with 3 chairs. Why they couldn't put some of us out of the way here to sleep, I'll never know.
The pain is getting worse. I'm terrified so now feeling extra sick and have a headache.

I hope you get to see the consultant soon. What a long night that must have been for you. Please let us know how you get on.

MumofCrohnie · 26/08/2022 07:52

My daughter had intussusception (telescoping of bowel) which presents similarly as severe waves of pain with no diarrhea, though she also had vomiting. It's rare but not unheard of in adults and can spontaneously resolve or be intermittent.

She has Crohn's disease which is a form of ibd of course.

Best of luck op. Now they know something is up, they can start treatment, which is always better than not knowing.

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 07:54

Thank you so much to everyone who has kept me company in the night. It has meant a lot. It was awful feeling so scared and alone, with nobody to talk to. Obviously the staff don't deal with reassuring you. Apart from the HCA who said it's always best to think the worse, so it's a surprise when it's better.
I wouldn't mind, it wasn't even busy. There were 3 members of staff chatting away about how quiet it was.

I hope you're being seen and are reassured now, @Somethingtoask

I have a good friend who had something very similar and it turned out to be some tiny fibroids that had suddenly gone crazy and blown up. Fingers crossed that your issue turns out to be something easily solved.

SpotOnMyBot · 26/08/2022 08:33

fingers crossed the consultant is seeing you - your headache might be from dehydration maybe? have they said you can drink anything yet?

PutYourBackIntoit · 26/08/2022 08:40

Oh OP I know I would be terrified in your situation too, and everything will be exasperated with no sleep, food or water.

Really hope you get seen soon and that you get some breakfast, and a hug. Is your dp able to come to the hospital this morning?

Somethingtoask · 26/08/2022 08:50

Just seen the consultantant. Apparently the way my bowel is positioned, they think I have Crohns! I'm surprised as I don't really have any bowel issues. My best friend has Crohn's and was a complete mess, bless her. Got to wait now for the radiologist to review the scan.

Also awaiting an ultrasound for the bulky womb issues!

To be honest, I've had issues and pain since my second c section. It was a bit of a disaster and I'm convinced I have adhesions there.

Feeling a bit more reassured that it's nothing life threatening. They said they will try and get me home today.

Im in a side room alone, which is great because it's dark. Still in a chair though. I'm hoping someone actually comes to see me so I can get pain relief. Been told I can eat but no-one has offered food or drink.

My DP is looking after our 3 year old. He said he would come.in but it may not be necessary if I get to go home.

OP posts:
SpotOnMyBot · 26/08/2022 08:55

thank goodness for that! I'm glad you can have some pain relief and something to eat and drink - you must feel dreadful you poor thing!

Footle · 26/08/2022 08:56

Sounds like they're being very thorough, though a bed would have been quite nice..
Wishing you well.

1AngelicFruitCake · 26/08/2022 08:57

Glad they’re being thorough. Everything seems worst at night. Will check in with you again soon x

curlymom · 26/08/2022 09:22

I had something similar about 10 years ago. It came on and off and I ended up having a scan. I had a burst ovarian cyst and it ended up with many ops and a diagnosis of endometriosis. You are In the right place to find out what’s going on. I will check in on this later and hope it is a simple fix for you

DeedIDo · 26/08/2022 09:36

I had two weeks of this. The pain when it peaked was equivalent to childbirth and going to th toilet had me literally screaming in pain. GP advised Buscopan and paracetamol, so I ended up at A&E. X-rays and ECG clear, so advised to go back to GP to request ultrasound. They did give me some codeine though, but 60mg codeine plus 1000mg paracetamol was only taking the edge of it.

Over the last week, things are pretty much back to normal. Ultrasound next Wednesday.

Soubriquet · 26/08/2022 09:44

I’m glad you got some answers. Wish I did

TheWayoftheLeaf · 26/08/2022 10:32

I get that sometimes from my IBS but if it's unusual for you I'd see the doctor. It might just be bad constipation or a blockage stopping diarrhoea from being expelled but best to be safe.
