When you blow a raspberry

Does the blown air go above or below your tongue?

For years I thought it was the same for everyone, but it turns out it's not, and I'm curious as to whether it's me or them that's the odd one, or if it's fairly well mixed.

Below. Unless I'm parping the cat's belly then just my lips. Yes. The weird creature likes it and will flump on his back looking at me expectingly until I do it.

Hello. My name is iklboo and I'm a cat slave.

Below. I am in the barbers with my son and I think he wants the ground to swallow him up as I sit in the corner quietly parping away.

Dalekjastninerels · 24/08/2022 17:54

Let me check

Under :)

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 24/08/2022 17:54

Mine is over, DH is under!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 24/08/2022 17:58

Over for me

Under for DH and brother.

HideTheCroissants · 24/08/2022 18:00

Above for me, below for DH. Yes we are both sitting here blowing raspberries. DS refuses to join in but he IS doing a fab eye roll.

Sandysandwich · 24/08/2022 18:10

Both ways, to make different noises, below is louder and higher, above is lower pitch and 'spittier'

Top

GrilledWatermelon · 24/08/2022 18:12

Above. I'm sitting in the garden, christ knows what the neighbours think

Soubriquet · 24/08/2022 18:16

Above Grin

So glad no one can see me sitting here blowing raspberries and then putting my finger in front to see where the air is coming from

@NumptiesIncorporated I make an excellent raspberry noise with just my lips. Much more controlled and less spitty!

Have you ever played a bugle? It's that action. Press the pursed lips tightly together and force air through.

Oh I'm not disputing that you can make a similar noise - but part of the joy of blowing a raspberry is that you stick out your tongue to do it. It's supposed to be a cheeky action, and the tongue plays a part in that 😜

Under and sort of at the sides too. (For a really good one.)
BTW, did many of you know that the term 'a raspberry' comes from cockney rhyming slang -- i.e. a raspberry tart?
CF -- Bristols / Bristol Cities / titties.
Makes perfect sense now.
