I had the best afternoon I’ve had in ages - sitting in Sainsburys carpark :)

I’m not sure what that says about me (that I’m a cheap date?!) But I really did.

My friend cancelled on me so I had a couple of spare hours. Decided to do a food shop but couldn’t face it when I got there, so just bought some water and some crisps, sat in the car and read my book.

I mean I probably won’t make it a regular thing but who knew Sainsburys carpark could give such joy!

Oh my that sounds bloody divine op.

Glad you enjoyed it, these little pieces of paradise are few and far between.

Lottapianos · 17/08/2022 19:12

How lovely. Peace and quiet and snacks - heaven. And all the more lovely for being unexpected ☺️

Bladed · 17/08/2022 19:15

:). As you say - look for the joy! (Or maybe you’d say easily pleased!)

You wouldn’t catch me doing that you totally would

Supersee · 17/08/2022 19:20

I read on another thread that a poster says to her family she's away to do the food shop but has actually done a click and collect so uses the extra time to sit in the car park with a coffee and book. Genius!

Oblomov22 · 17/08/2022 19:22

I know exactly what you mean!

Bigchezemakeme · 17/08/2022 19:23

could you not find some nice green to sit and enjoy - park or something?

TheMadGardener · 17/08/2022 19:25

I did the same thing this morning! Went to my favourite bakery, bought a breakfast roll and a latte, drove up on the nearby moors and found a parking spot with no tourists in it, sat in the car and sipped my coffee while listening to an audiobook and contemplating the sheep. It was great. Then I went back to my house which was full of teenage girls.

flowerycurtain · 17/08/2022 19:26

I had an Aldi shop last night and May or may not have stopped in a lay-by to eat 3 magnums and Mumsnet. (pMt evening in my defence)!!!

AdInfinitum12 · 17/08/2022 19:26

Hopefully you weren't there more than 2 hours? I think anything over that and you end up with a parking fine. Sainsbury's have a two hour max limit.

This is genius. How has this never occurred to me?!

JamesMartinsWaistcoat · 17/08/2022 19:28

I would bloody love this. Except I'd swap the book for people-watching Grin

Willowthewispy · 17/08/2022 19:29

That sounds glorious. The other day I got my hair appointment mixed up and arrived really early. So I took myself to a cafe for some freshly made coffee and sourdough toast with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Honestly it felt like winning the euros. I sat people watching and mums netting....... bliss!

Lolreally · 17/08/2022 19:29

I can't concentrate on a book in a car park as im too busy having a nosey at everyone.

I was in one of those moods where I was feeling self conscious and anti social so my car felt like a haven!

I'm gonna do that soon! What a good idea! Peace!

I did the same thing in sainsbos carpark on Tuesday.

Read my phone and ate my lunch.

Sometimes I have a little sleep too.

No defence needed, this is perfectly acceptable, maybe even aspirational, behaviour :).

It’d be funny if we were in the same branch of Sainsburys.

Itsmemaggie · 17/08/2022 19:37

I may or may not be sitting in my car in the home bargains car park scrolling my phone this very minute.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 17/08/2022 19:38

That was my goto when the school were younger. A bit of piece and quiet!!

TeddyTed · 17/08/2022 19:41

Totally get it op. I have a day to myself next Wednesday (first one for ages) - I might tell DH, who has to work, I’m off to the gym but secretly I’m going to get a McDonald’s to eat in the car 😀
