I had the best afternoon I’ve had in ages - sitting in Sainsburys carpark :)

I’m not sure what that says about me (that I’m a cheap date?!) But I really did.

My friend cancelled on me so I had a couple of spare hours. Decided to do a food shop but couldn’t face it when I got there, so just bought some water and some crisps, sat in the car and read my book.

I mean I probably won’t make it a regular thing but who knew Sainsburys carpark could give such joy!

Love this thread! To the poster who thinks it's depressing, it's much less depressing than having to lock yourself in the toilet for a bit of peace away from the chaos of family life!! I even keep my car stocked up with supplies ready for these lovely moments of escapism - book, blanket, drink, snacks!!

@mixedupmother exactly !

@Bigchezemakeme I understand what you're saying but it wasn't like that for me.

DH was supportive of me doing my own thing, taking time for me, haircuts, massages, going on holiday with friends, taking DC out when I wasn't well etc etc. absolutely no issues there. He still is.

But I still really love sitting in my car for 15 minutes after a big shop, reading and drinking a coffee/having a snack. And my teen DC is perfectly self sufficient now and would only miss me when they ran out of socks Grin it's about just a moment of the day doing something nice for me before going back into emails/work mode/super mum thinking of everything state of mind.

Oh yes I agree! I have to pick someone up from the airport today and am arriving 6 hours early so I can sit in my car and watch planes and drink tea from my flask. Bliss!

Six hours is pretty hardcore. Will it not also be expensive with airport parking?

I love airports so I'd definitely be getting out.

Nah don’t feel sorry for me either 😂

my late husband used to do it now and again, he loved sitting with a costa listening to radio 2 sometimes without me or the kids. He certainly wasn’t abused! We were both great at giving each other space and time.

it’s all very well having planned time to yourself but you have to wait for it and everyone knows about it whereas I sometimes need the break and headspace now otherwise I’ll crack up so that little half hour to myself that no one knows about doesn’t soul the world of good.

and no it’s not depressing and nothing to do (for me) with being abused
