How many pairs of shoes does your 10 year old (girl) have?

I've specified girl because I'm assuming they'll have more than a boy. That is how our family seems to have ended up!
DS(12) has hiking boots, sandals and waterproof trail running shoes, crocs for school and for home.

DD10 has
wellies - sparkly, rarely worn as there hasn't been enough rain
hiking boots
sandals - everyday wear at the moment, not the most fashionable but good for skateboarding and water sports.
waterproof trainers - everyday wear when not wearing sandals, again not fashionable but waterproof as we walk a lot, wait at bus stops and they have to be outside every break unless its very windy.
smart boots
crocs for home
fake Birkenstock for school.
She used to have running shoes but has now stopped that club so I haven't replaced.

Normally she wears crocs at school, but this year has asked for fake Birkenstock type as all the other children have them. I have obliged.

She is now asking for "normal trainers". I don't know if I should get her some, she has serviceable trainers, but .... see picture. I don't want to fall into the "buy her everything she asks for just because the others have it" trap. But I'm aware this stuff is becoming more important at this age and she does have to deal with some stick for having a sibling with SN in the same school. There is no uniform, so these are the shoes she wears to school.

Does she have too many shoes? Should I buy her fashion trainers rather than waterproof ones? Or should she get both?

Loads…

boots
smart sandals
casual sandals
flip flops
school trainers
sports trainers
3 pairs ‘fashion trainers’

sliders
3 x dance shoes

she really likes trainers

Gooseysgirl · 16/08/2022 21:38

DD age 10.5
2 x pairs of trainers
1 x pair school shoes
1 x pair cheap boots for school in winter on cold days
1 x pair wellies
1 x pair hiking shoes
1 x pair sandals
Most of above bought in supermarkets or sales

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 16/08/2022 21:38

She wouldn’t wear either of the images you’ve shared

Quornflakegirl · 16/08/2022 21:38

Meant to say are 10 in a few weeks!

ShoesShoesGloriousShoes · 16/08/2022 21:39

@mattressspring they're not allowed to wear outdoor shoes indoors, so they all have either crocs or Birkenstock style like this

One pair of trainers, one pair of wellies. That’s it.

BooksAndHooks · 16/08/2022 21:43

Mine usually has school shoes, trainers, winter boots and a pair of sandals.

she has now got her normal trainers, two pairs of waterproof ones she had for her school residential trip and she happened to get 3 pairs of cheap fashion trainers for her birthday so definitely has more than usual for her currently.

ShoesShoesGloriousShoes · 16/08/2022 21:44

@Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday she's always been happy with them until this first week back. I do admit the sandals are quite ugly, but she can't skateboard in normal ones and she can wear them in the water. But then she's never bothered about anything clothing wise, wears whatever as long as it's not a dress or skirt!

That's odd - I can't understand the logic in wearing backless shoes at school even if it's indoors, because of potential trip hazard. I couldn't ever see our school allowing it and they are fairly relaxed! I don't see any problem with the first two pairs though in a non-uniform school!

Gooseysgirl · 16/08/2022 21:45

The birks are v cute though 😍

Gooseysgirl · 16/08/2022 21:48

The annoying thing at this age though is the feet are growing and it costs a small fortune to keep replacing them the shoes 😕

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 16/08/2022 21:48

My 9yo DD has:

Smart sandals
Flip flops
Everyday trainers
School trainers
School shoes
Smart boots
Wellies
Chunky silver boots
Ballet pumps
Lightweight summer daps
Wheelie trainers THAT SHE BEGGED FOR AND HAS WORN ONCE!!! Angry

PuttingDownRoots · 16/08/2022 21:54

11yo...
Walking boots
School trainers
Normal trainers
Canvas pumps
Sandals
The sandals she needed for "Prom"
Crocs
Slippers
Wellies
School shoes
Neoprene watersport shoes
Leather boots that she outgrew at Easter but won't be replaced until October.

DD9..
As above, but no Prom sandals, but has Rugby boots.

Minikievs · 16/08/2022 21:58

DD almost 9.
One pair sandals
One pair sliders
One pair trainers
School shoes
Plimsolls (stay at school)
Wellies
I guess in winter she potentially needs a pair of party/smart shoes
But she wears the same couple of pairs regardless of how many she's got (sliders/trainers at mo) so what's the point in buying more

As a side note, she wouldn't wear the trainers in your first pic

HippeePrincess · 16/08/2022 22:01

Sandals and skateboarding sounds like a terrible combination.
Those “trainers” you’ve pictured are hideous I doubt many 10 year olds would wear them, more like old lady walking attire than fashion trainers!
I’m not sure you’re in the uk as the shoe arrangement at school is alien to me.

Mine has school shoes, trainers, sandals in summer, boots in winter, wellies. Might buy something different for a special occasion as and when needed. Would possibly get flip flops, jellies or beach shoes if we planned a holiday.
If it was raining that heavily she’d wear wellies but otherwise it’s trainers or school shoes which aren’t waterproof but they’re splash/shower proof in that her feet aren’t soaked in a normal amount of rain.

changingroom · 16/08/2022 22:03

Wellies
trainers
school shoes
sandals

drspouse · 16/08/2022 22:05

She's only 8 but DD has:
Black trainers for school.
Two pairs other trainers for out of school (one is about to give up).
One pair wellies
One pair flip flops.
Both pairs of trainers were hand me downs from DS but he often takes against shoes after two wears so they were very little worn.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/08/2022 22:07

Football boots
Astro boots
Walking boots
Sports sandals
Trainers for home
Trainers for school
School shoes
Smart shoes for a piano comp once
Smart leather converse boots (unworn)
Crocs
Neoprene beach shoes

She has no care for fashion
The only shoes she has, and wears, which don't have a specific sports function is her trainers.

knackeredagain · 16/08/2022 22:07

I have boys but if she’s into skateboarding I’d get her a pair of skate shoes. She’ll wear them for fashion as well as skating, and skateboarding is more than a sport. It’s a tribe. Ditch another pair of utility trainers and get her some Vans/Converse/Etnies. She’ll wear them to death.

Dds are older now but only had one pair each of school shoes, sandals and trainers. Trainers went back and forth to school on PE days. Occasionally wellies but usually grew out of them after a couple of uses, and preferred puddle jumping in trainers anyway…
