How many pairs of shoes does your 10 year old (girl) have?

I've specified girl because I'm assuming they'll have more than a boy. That is how our family seems to have ended up!
DS(12) has hiking boots, sandals and waterproof trail running shoes, crocs for school and for home.

DD10 has
wellies - sparkly, rarely worn as there hasn't been enough rain
hiking boots
sandals - everyday wear at the moment, not the most fashionable but good for skateboarding and water sports.
waterproof trainers - everyday wear when not wearing sandals, again not fashionable but waterproof as we walk a lot, wait at bus stops and they have to be outside every break unless its very windy.
smart boots
crocs for home
fake Birkenstock for school.
She used to have running shoes but has now stopped that club so I haven't replaced.

Normally she wears crocs at school, but this year has asked for fake Birkenstock type as all the other children have them. I have obliged.

She is now asking for "normal trainers". I don't know if I should get her some, she has serviceable trainers, but .... see picture. I don't want to fall into the "buy her everything she asks for just because the others have it" trap. But I'm aware this stuff is becoming more important at this age and she does have to deal with some stick for having a sibling with SN in the same school. There is no uniform, so these are the shoes she wears to school.

Does she have too many shoes? Should I buy her fashion trainers rather than waterproof ones? Or should she get both?

Gosh this is interesting to read. DD is 11 and I sometimes think she has a ridiculous number of shoes and sometimes think....there's nothing quite right for this activity or moment.

She has:

School shoes
School PE trainers
Home sports trainers
Home leisure pumps (like whatever the modern version of something like Converse is)
2x pairs of sliders
1 pair sparkly closed toe sandals for weddings etc.
Usually in winter a pair of either chelsea or longer boots with a good sole
Wellies
Snow boots usually but we haven't been skiing since pre-COVID so not got those at the moment.

She also rides, looks after and competes her pony, so for that we have several pairs of boots etc for that.

It feels like a lot but it's really only the sliders where we have 2 pairs and probably don't need 2. The rest all have a job, although things like chelsea or long boots some winters get worn loads and some not that much, so they feel like a waste if we end up passing them on barely worn. We don't have any actual summer sandals that everybody else seems to have...she just wears sliders or trainers.

Trainers which doubles as school shoes and sliders in garden and summer days.

Trainers
Sandals
School shoes
Wellies
Smart boots

Those trainers are hideous, like what old women wear to go walking. Buy the poor girl some nikes or pumas.

I feel like such a Scrooge here!

  • smart sandals I had to get her for a wedding from M&S that came apart on the 4th wear.

  • I’ll add winter boots in October

  • crocs

  • trainers

  • school shoes

  • wellies

  • an adopted pair of my Stan smiths because she is my shoe size this summer

  • An adopted paid of fisherman style sandals (ditto)

  • I’ll add winter boots in October too

(I bought her sandals for that wedding too, but she won’t wear them so I have them now.)

11yo has:
trainers (fashion, her precious)
trainers (running)
trainers (school)
vans
wellies
sandals
school shoes

she'd like a pair of going out/party shoes but we never seem to find any she likes that fit.

Wow. This thread is amazing to me.
