How many pairs of shoes does your 10 year old (girl) have?

I've specified girl because I'm assuming they'll have more than a boy. That is how our family seems to have ended up!
DS(12) has hiking boots, sandals and waterproof trail running shoes, crocs for school and for home.

DD10 has
wellies - sparkly, rarely worn as there hasn't been enough rain
hiking boots
sandals - everyday wear at the moment, not the most fashionable but good for skateboarding and water sports.
waterproof trainers - everyday wear when not wearing sandals, again not fashionable but waterproof as we walk a lot, wait at bus stops and they have to be outside every break unless its very windy.
smart boots
crocs for home
fake Birkenstock for school.
She used to have running shoes but has now stopped that club so I haven't replaced.

Normally she wears crocs at school, but this year has asked for fake Birkenstock type as all the other children have them. I have obliged.

She is now asking for "normal trainers". I don't know if I should get her some, she has serviceable trainers, but .... see picture. I don't want to fall into the "buy her everything she asks for just because the others have it" trap. But I'm aware this stuff is becoming more important at this age and she does have to deal with some stick for having a sibling with SN in the same school. There is no uniform, so these are the shoes she wears to school.

Does she have too many shoes? Should I buy her fashion trainers rather than waterproof ones? Or should she get both?

She probably feels unfashionable. Sorry but my kids would have refused to wear those trainers at 10! They just wanted to fit in. (My teens care less now, they're a bit more alt) My dd8 has black Nikes for school.

I have 3 girls, they have shit loads of shoes!

School pe trainers (usually Nike, just basic ones from sports direct)
"Fashion" trainers (cons style dd15, Air Force ones dd13, vans dd8)
School shoes
Sandals
Crocs
Wellies
Walking boots
Fashion boots (docs for teens, primark for dd8)
Sliders
Specific sports trainers (netball for dd13) (bowling dd15)
Party shoes (dd8 only)
Slippers (dd8 only)

Currently my dd8 has about 4 pairs of different trainers as she is a size 3, same as my friend who gave me loads of shoes!

I honestly don't spend too much on shoes as I look for bargains. My kids bought their own doc martens with saved up pocket money.

No wonder I have no room in my shoe cupboard!

Hakeandling · 16/08/2022 22:13

Dd 10 has

Riding boots
Winter wellies
Summer wellies
Country boots
4 pairs black trainers
1 pair white trainers
2 pairs sliders
2 pairs boots (1 patent, 1 suede)
Sandals (somewhere have not seen light of day for very long time)

I think that's it. She is always in wellies or riding boots!

AmethystMoonShine · 16/08/2022 22:18

10 yo DD has:

scruffy trainers
smart trainers
flip flops
converse high tops
school shoes
wellies
slippers

sweeetpotato · 16/08/2022 22:21

This year
Doc martens school shoes
Wellies
Vans
Adidas trainers
Birkenstocks and jelly shoes in spring/summer
Boots and Mary Jane style shoes in autumn/winter

She has a variety of footwear depending on the weather, what outfit she's wearing, the trainers and vans are also used for PE and sports clubs.

I prefer to buy more expensive brands as they tend to last longer but have had supermarket stuff as-well over the years. Generally this is what she will have at any one time and will be replaced when the weather changes or they are getting too small.

Chocolatiestchocolate · 16/08/2022 22:23

Dd wouldn't wear any of the ones you've pictured.

She has air forces for decent and some Adidas for parks etc
Wellies
Havianna flip flops
Sandals x 3 white, black and tan
School shoes
Chelsea boots
Sliders

Shes just gone up a size so all needs replacing, except sandals as hers are just about ok till end of summer.

Ds teen

4 x air forces ( i only paid for 1.pair he has a job now so treats himself) 1 black, 3 white
2 pairs Jordans
Crocs
Sliders

justabigdisco · 16/08/2022 22:24

School shoes

CountessOfSponheim · 16/08/2022 22:29

DD11 has

School shoes
Walking boots
Smarter ankle boots
Heeleys
Rugby boots

Water shoes

She doesn't currently have wellies but is supposed to have them for Guide camp at the end of the month so will probably acquire some.

PragmaticWench · 16/08/2022 22:29

I'm surprised they can wear something unsupportive to school but DD has to wear orthotic inserts and very supportive shoes, so that skews my judgement.

DD has:
Trainers for sports
Crocs for the garden
Wellies
Black school shoes
Slippers

PragmaticWench · 16/08/2022 22:30

Oh and football boots with studs.

SunflowerDuck · 16/08/2022 22:31

Wow starting to feel a bit of a scrooge with my kids!

My 10 year old has...
School shoes and pe trainers
Home trainers.

And that's it!!

Rockbird · 16/08/2022 22:33

School shoes
School trainers
Home trainers
sandals
sliders
wellies

that's about it unless you want to count her Irish dancing shoes!

SunflowerDuck · 16/08/2022 22:33

And yes v surprised they haven't got to have toes /heels covered as I'm so used to that as a rule!

I guess you can't really run in birkies so there is that. Crowd control!

Is it a private school? Do they get changed for break? (My 10 yesr old would spend most of her 15min break getting changed in/out of trainers!)

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 16/08/2022 22:33

Christmasiscominghohoho · 16/08/2022 22:52

School shoes
about 5 pairs of sandles
sliders
sketchers
trainers x 2
wellies
1 x boots

gigglinggirl · 16/08/2022 22:55

DD 9 has:
Startrite school shoes
2 x Nike trainers for sport
Adidas sliders
Astros for hockey
Canvas pumps
Crocs (which she refuses to wear)
Wellies
Wetsuit shoes
Winter boots (lovely pair I bought from JL which she refuses to wear, plus horrible cheap glittery hand-me-down which she loves)
Roller blades (Not technically shoes but her most-worn footwear)

She would not wear the shoes pictured. I do also remember how much it mattered having the ‘right’ trainers etc at school, so have some sympathy.
