Courchevel, St Anton, Val D'Isère

Padstow was very middle class.

Cala d'Or in Majorca has a middle class end and a WC end.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 15/08/2022 11:02

Cornwall, Devon, and Norfolk have some VERY middle class enclaves.

Also Tuscany, although far less obvious than the British Seaside which seems to be completely divided by class with lots of obvious class markers displayed.

I thought Courcheval was wall the wall Russian Millionaires & oligarchs?

Cornwall and North Norfolk, East Neuk of Fife.

Sorrento
Wigtown
Cannes

North Norfolk especially when the private schools have broken up for Summer and the state schools are still open. Beach car park is wall to wall Range Rovers and other glossy 4x4s, beach is full of pompous men in pink shirts and women in Boden or similar!

Saint Mawes in Cornwell is "the" place for middle class family in ds's class.. Always up & down for weekends during term time.

North Norfolk
Cotswolds
St Andrews
Sandbanks

I haven’t been, and don’t ever want to, but Rock apparently fits the criteria.

A friend used to joke that there was a barrier at the entrance, where they’d check your accent before letting you in. Should add that he’d have passed any sort of accent test, not to mention ‘old school tie’ test, so not a case of class resentment.

Borntobrighton · 15/08/2022 11:25

The more monied families we know & from the dc's school are holidaying at home this summer mainly Norfolk & Cornwall.. It's interesting the way destinations change. Pre covid these families would always have holidayed abroad.

I've been to Provence and Formentera, because I have friends who own houses there (what a cliché I am).

I also used to go skiing in Courchevel a lot, but I think that's considered a bit non-U these days.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/08/2022 11:59

When I was a child we used to go to Southwold a lot. A relative with a house there used to let us have it at mates rates.

As an adult - Chamonix?

As an adult with children - pass! Nowhere particularly fancy.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 15/08/2022 12:06

Oh and the Amalfi coast

Soproudoflionesses · 15/08/2022 12:11

Agree with parts of Cornwall but ironic as it is such a deprived county

Bluehighlighters · 15/08/2022 12:13

I was in North Norfolk over the weekend. Its Tennis Week this week and absolutely chocka with privately educated children and their parents all staying in lovely cottages in Thornham and Brancaster, sipping Rose from Provence and braying loudly.

lawnmowers · 15/08/2022 12:28

What on earth is clichéd middle class about North Wales, i.e. Holyhead and Rhyl?

We rented a cottage in Aberdyfi in North Wales last summer & it was extremely well to do, lots of yah types from London. Beautiful place.

Wow. That is really quite offensive. As are some other comments on this thread.

I wonder how a thread about 'chavs' would go down?

Back to the thread though North Norfolk most definitely (especially Thornham).

Numbersarefun · 15/08/2022 12:47

Fowey and Salcombe probably (although to be fair I’ve been going to Fowey since I was 0 and am now well past 40!)
