For me in the UK - Cornwall & North Wales.
Abroad - a campsite in S. France 10 mins from St Tropez.

Not so posh
Salou & Cambrils
Tenerife
Won't be returning anytime soon.

Everyone saying Wells Next The Sea is MC has it slightly wrong i think. Every little village from Old Hunstanton right round to West Runton is very middle class, as is Burnham Market and Holt. But Wells and Sherringham are much less so, still fun for the kids with crabbing at the harbour etc, but lots of fat people in vest tops with tattoos and dole poles around.

SuperCamp · 16/08/2022 10:12

Aldeburgh
Paxos
Salcombe
Steephill Cove IoW
Certain ‘wild style’ campsites in E Sussex

I agree.
Wells and Sheringham have caravan parks, as does Cromer. All 3 have amusement arcades and many rock shops. Wells has soft play. All 3 very mixed groups of holiday makers.

Blakeney has a caravan site (statics only) and many happy visitors of all sorts crabbing from the quay, but holiday cottages there are a M/C ghetto. (I know, holidayed there for years).

😂

That did make me laugh. Boden and co would do a roaring trade in places like Brantôme.

Pp's comment about Cornbury festival reminded me - Hop Farm was very very MC.
There were a group of late teen lads camping next to us. You might think it could get a bit rowdy but no. One morning I heard one say to the other "seriously Sebastian, how long have you been nibbling that brioche?" And I'd thought Hay book festival was la-di-da as a festival got.

LapinR0se · 16/08/2022 10:45

Personally I am a big fan of sipping rosé from Provence and braying loudly

CuriousCatfish · 16/08/2022 10:52

What happens if a 'fat pleb in a vest top' crosses the line from Hunstanton into Old Hunstanton? Are they chased back to the WC side by a Joules wearing swishy haired MC woman brandishing an artisan loaf?

CuriousCatfish · 16/08/2022 10:58

We went to Burnham Market once for about an hour because it was so dull and I spent most of my time there taking the piss out of the artisan ice cream and F & B painted front doors.

I'm not sure about the camping thing, we don't do it (I hate the thought of it). People round here don't tend to do UK holidays unless it's a little add on/weekend break.
I think anyone that goes on holidays booked by Audley with a personalised itinery eg galapogas with private boat etc, personal transfers from airports etc is more middle class, well it is round here but we're in a v. wealthy area.

When did camping become so mc? We've always camped & it was always very relaxed & easy going.. Then gradually certain campsites became more expensive & exclusive, their regulars have been priced out & the mc are arriving in droves... When my dc were younger camping wasn't seen as a mc holiday.

Holt is very dull too, glad we didn’t have to spend much time there.

'When my dc were younger camping wasn't seen as a mc holiday'

No it wasn't. We camped in Devon, when mine were little because it was a cheap holiday.

We loved to camp in Cornwall & parts of Sussex (still do) . I used to camp with my family there also when I was small. @CuriousCatfish we camped as we couldn't afford a week somewhere in Europe & the dc loved it. It certainly wasn't mc to camp 5 years ago, what has changed?

Yes, we didn't stay around in Holt long either. The eye watering prices for the hand made tat in the Maltings was enough for me to drive back to Sheringham as fast as i could.

PuttingDownRoots · 16/08/2022 11:15

With camping its more the location than the actual camping bit. Plus the high end kit.

Burnham Market - also known as Chelsea on Sea, I believe. I can’t even afford to set foot on the pavements there, I’d be chased off with a broom. An artisan broom from a gallery somewhere, which had hitherto only been used to sweep up olive stones and Parmesan shavings 😂

If you go east from Kings Lynn or north from Cromer, each seaside village progressively gets more upper middle class until you reach the corner. A bizarre experience in real life.

We went to a naice restaurant and clearly some sort of signal had gone out to all the other guests who were wearing blue linen. Having not got the signal, we wondered if we would be barred on the door.

Allmarbleslost · 16/08/2022 11:20

I've never really thought about this. Do MC people research which areas are MC before they book their holidays so they all end up in the same place?? I guess I am middle class but I always just pick an area I want to visit without considering who else might be there! Am I doing holidaying wrong??

DeePlume · 16/08/2022 11:44

Was camping in north Norfolk last week. On the Friday afternoon an army of expensive 4x4s arrived with great noise and disruption!

Goawaygreta · 16/08/2022 11:45

Its mad isn't it really. I love Norfolk and have been holidaying in these MC areas for many years with the DC.
I'm not exactly pleb in a vest top😀,but not sure where I fit in. Brought up in a council house as a child.
DH have our own house, I have a professional job, own cars, holiday abroad etc. Suppose I think of myself as middle class .

Go to Norfolk as I love it. Love the way of life, lifestyle.
Probably don't fit in with the other people I see ,who in the main, aren't local, but seem to be very well off Londoners. Who either have relocated or have second homes.

countdowntonap · 16/08/2022 11:49

@Allmarbleslost I think it’s more researching that your holiday location doesn’t have features you wish to avoid. I saw a hotel I liked in Cala’n Bosch, but after a Google Maps walk of the area (seriously 😁) I avoided booking because of the Sky Sports bar and a bar that had tribute bands! I always have a good research of the area.

Spudlet · 16/08/2022 11:51

Come to South Norfolk - the place where some people from Norfolk can actually afford to still live 😅 Not so great for the seaside but there are some lovely villages, nice walks, and far fewer caravans on the roads. North Norfolk is definitely a different kettle of fish. There are far more touristy things up that way to be fair, and the beaches are nice. But it’s such a big county, I think it’s worth branching out a bit 🙂

Goawaygreta · 16/08/2022 11:54

I agree regarding that they probably research the area as to what they don't want
I'm not keen on seaside towns with wall to wall arcades or fairs.
I know the children love them but overall our holidays aren't like that.
In Norfolk there's only new Hunstanton with all of that and a little bit in Wells.
So we have a mainly beach holiday but a hit of amusement arcade thrown in.

I bet its lovely. I suppose we choose North Norfolk due the endless beaches. I agree about not many locals though.

Hoppinggreen · 16/08/2022 11:59

We are in Yorkshire and a few years ago we met friends from London for a holiday in North Norfolk (Hunstanton) really liked it but our friend said Burnham Market had been recommended to them and we should go for lunch.
I wasn’t keen, it was very “London” and not my thing at all

Borntobrighton · 16/08/2022 12:02

I guess what I mean is when did the Londoners decide to start camping? 😁 I doubt it's their main summer holiday & they usually arrive in convoy with other families. It's so interesting the way trends change..
