Housework in this heat

Comedycook · 14/08/2022 19:50

Do you do it because I literally can't do it in this heat?! My house is a tip...there's loads to do but the most I can cope with is loading and unloading the dishwasher. Even then I collapse in a sweaty heap afterwards.

Anyone else living in a pig sty due to the heat?

Same. I’d wanted to hoover, clean the bathroom and do various other chores. Even dusting was too much effort.

Still, at least we have an excuse . . .

MissCrowley · 14/08/2022 19:53

I cleaned my house today.. it wasn't fun. I've not mopped yet. I'm trying really hard to gather some motivation.
I did it because I have this thing where I can't start the week on Monday unless the house is clean 🤦🏻‍♀️
Any normal person would avoid doing any form of housework in this heat because they're sensible.

100%. We also had 2 takeaways this week which is not the norm for my family. We usually have 1 a month.

urgen · 14/08/2022 19:55

The ironing is just something I cannot tackle until Tuesday onwards. I like to do all the ironing in one go and I have bed linen to do…

Yes same. I usually cook a lot. We got McDonald's today from the drive thru so we didn't even have to get out of the air conditioned car!

I've been doing as much as I can in the mornings before it gets too hot, although we did an immense amount of DIY yesterday which was a ridiculous idea and has also created loads more bloody mess.

Jellytottss · 14/08/2022 19:57

I have hoovered and mopped. Washed the dishes. That's it for me!

Yes my ironing pile is huge!

Omg I also cooked dinner tonight using the oven. I do not advise.
My DH told me to wear my glasses if I don't want to be hit in the face with the heat.
I don't know how fucking big he thinks my glasses are but I can assure you they do not offer that amount of coverage!

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/08/2022 19:59

Only can stand to do 10 mins, then I need a sit down.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 14/08/2022 19:59

Yeah, we've been doing everything as normal, but there's only DH and I at home so it doesn't take long.

Earlymenopausesucks · 14/08/2022 20:01

If it’s not done first thing in the morning it’s not happening!

tenbob · 14/08/2022 20:01

I’ve been the opposite! All the beds have been stripped and washed this weekend because it’s taken about 45 seconds for everything to dry, instead of it being draped around for ages

The floors were dry in minutes rather than me yelling ‘stay out of the kitchen while the floor is wet/stop leaving footprints on the wet floors/stop running in the hall, you’ll go flying because the floor is wet’ 😂😂

There has been less hoovering though, but mostly because the dogs are slumped on the tiles in the kitchen where it is coolest, rather than trailing their hair around the whole house

BasilParsley · 14/08/2022 20:01

I have found, under similar circumstances, that putting a commercial TV channel on to a suitably non-challenging programme to watch and then getting up to do bits of housework while the adverts are on and then sitting back down until the next ad break works a treat! I seem to get a lot done in those ad breaks...

Mol1628 · 14/08/2022 20:02

Short bursts. But it’s really difficult.

I have been getting a lot of washing dry but hanging it outside is so difficult. But worth it as it’s dry in about 20 minutes.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/08/2022 20:02

Yes and still plowing through a long list of diy and flat pack furniture. But in one hour bursts. Helps that the house is at least 10 degrees colour than outside.
Garden clearing is in a half hour per day max in the evening.

Sandcastlesinthesky · 14/08/2022 20:03

I’ve done it today and cooked but it was a mistake really. I am a very sweaty resentful mess right now

JustSortYoursefOut · 14/08/2022 20:04

My grandchildren have been here for 5 days. The house is now a tip. I've also got loads of ironing to do. Stuff it all, it's too hot and I'm leaving it all until tomorrow night (when hopefully it will be cooler and will have rained)

mondaytosunday · 14/08/2022 20:09

Ha what you have to do is invite people over! Nothing spurs me in to do some much needed vacuuming than expecting guests!
I went away this weekend and a friend volunteered to stay and look after my pets, so I spent the Thursday last week doing all those jobs I'd let slip over the last few.

EmmaH2022 · 14/08/2022 20:12

It has been bad but today I managed to sort the open plan kitchen/lounge/office. It's bloody tiny which doesn't help.

i might get a cleaner in to do a one off. The flat has regularly hit 35c this summer and cleaning has been cursory I'm afraid.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 14/08/2022 20:14

I did the bathroom yesterday but I'd not done it last week so i had to. Did some hoovering and the kitchen. Today changed bedding but it took ages

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 14/08/2022 20:16

Curtains closed, fan in front of open window or door in each room. Ice cold drink to carry around. One room at a time, slow and steady. Then when all is done have a shower and sit down. I've only done hoovering, cleaning and dusting surfaces and tidying. No big cleans for a while

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 14/08/2022 20:23

Not just housework - I can barely be arsed to do anything in this heat. Had a very unproductive work week. Done zero exercise. Can't get up energy to do much with the kids. Like PPs, have eaten out/got takeaways to avoid cooking and clearing up. Bring on the storms!

EternalPoinsettia · 14/08/2022 20:25

I have a mad half hour in the morning and evening and do nothing during the day

AlwaysLatte · 14/08/2022 20:25

Nope, I've been out a lot today and too hot, so apart from tidying and one dishwasher/one washing load, I'm on strike today! I'm going to do Sundays jobs tomorrow instead!
