Housework in this heat

Comedycook · 14/08/2022 19:50

Do you do it because I literally can't do it in this heat?! My house is a tip...there's loads to do but the most I can cope with is loading and unloading the dishwasher. Even then I collapse in a sweaty heap afterwards.

Anyone else living in a pig sty due to the heat?

Same here house is a tip managed to do some laundry load and unload the dishwasher and clean the kitchen but thats all for today. I can't wait until tomorrow for some normal temperatures

ifonly4 · 14/08/2022 20:33

I've been getting up around 6.30pm and doing one household thing a day, getting the housework done and walking down to supermarket when needed - it's all down by 8.15am. Then anything else as I've got the energy to do.

Homeinwales · 14/08/2022 20:35

I’m 35 weeks pregnant and currently a housewife and I’ve managed housework on some days and none on others I’ve found having my breakfast and picking one episode to watch and then when the episode has finished putting on some music and doing housework. This week I’ve managed to hoover a couple times, mop, do multiple loads of laundry and strip the bed spread throughout the week. I’m looking forward to the more cooler weather coming this week so I can do a proper deep clean without feeling like a sweaty mess

pumpkinpie01 · 14/08/2022 20:36

Same here , I love this weather but 2 hours of rain and cold would be nice so I can run round and clean this messy house !

Bluevelvetsofa · 14/08/2022 20:41

Couldn’t stand the dusty blinds and window sills with tiny dead creatures, so washed them this morning. Knackered afterwards though.

fernz · 14/08/2022 20:43

Enjoying laundry because it's dry almost instantly after hanging it up!

I've hoovered downstairs once this week but not upstairs. Can't wait for it to get a little cooler from tomorrow.

Ammonites · 14/08/2022 20:45

I’m doing the bare minimum. Dh has done all the weekend washing, hanging it outside and folding away. I cooked some salmon and roast potatoes and did the washing up. Kids laid the table and put stuff away.

Basically a team effort and it will be cold soon enough.

Cantbeliveyoufakeit · 14/08/2022 20:51

Me, and I'm going to die of shame tomorrow as I have an engineer coming to fix my cooker who's going to see the state of it. I've had to clean the cooker itself (it wasn't minging but needed doing) and that was hell on earth so not even the prospect of my embarrassment was enough to make me do the rest. I'm just going to have to keep repeating 'you never have to see him/her again' in my head while they're here and hope it a quick fix and I can get it over with Blush

Tootsey11 · 14/08/2022 20:52

I'm a cleaner, I've done 12 houses in the past week. Ended every day in a sweaty red faced mess. Hate hate hate it.

Cantbeliveyoufakeit · 14/08/2022 21:00

Ugh, massive sympathy Tootsey11, definitely one of the drawbacks to your job. I keep wondering how people who work in kitchens and places like carvery's are coping, not to mention the fire service obviously, must be horrendous. Hopefully cooling down over next couple of days anyway so some relief is coming, hang in there!

AuntieMarys · 14/08/2022 21:05

I'm awake at 5 so do the bare minimum then. Dishwasher, floors swept, washing on and out.
Haven't ironed for 3 weeks or dusted.

Germolenequeen · 14/08/2022 21:07

I've been cleaning as usual but Friday hoovering and dusting was a very sweaty experience 🥵

NannyGythaOgg · 14/08/2022 21:11

I've had a sofacation for the past few days.

Apart from getting food and drink and half an hour pottering in the garden in the evening I have barely moved from the sofa.

Molehillfromamountain · 14/08/2022 21:12

I've struggled with housework but have done lots of laundry and lots of outdoor jobs that needed tackling. I need to iron now because I have washed the bedding and I love getting into freshly ironed sheets!

Afonavon · 14/08/2022 21:20

Laundry done because I can’t let the opportunity for line drying pass me by.

Stupidly I repotted loads of houseplants in the boiling hot shed yesterday, I nearly collapsed.

I have cooked using the air-fryer, but mainly we have lived off salads and snacky bits.

I’ve not cleaned the house at all, it is a pig sty!

Moonface123 · 14/08/2022 21:24

l worked an early shift then spent rest of the day resting. Housework can wait until its cooled down.
My Bearded dragon is loving this heat, he' s been basking outside.

dudsville · 14/08/2022 21:26

Owing to the heat and my fondness for cotton that needs to be ironed, i had a pile of 6 dresses to iron today. It wasn't fun. At the end of the day i ran the vacuum, got sweaty and then showered to go to bed. I would like to vacuum upstairs but it's too warm. I'm waiting for the weather to break to tackle the bathroom, but did manage to take out the kitchen bin. It had fish in it and i didn't fancy waking up to the smell of that sitting in my warm kitchen all night!

RainbowToes · 14/08/2022 21:28

House is an absolute tip.
I've spent hours watching crap telly with the sodding curtains closed.
Had a nap this afternoon.
So sad!!!

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 14/08/2022 21:32

Doing what really needs done but either early morning or this time of night.
DH has decorated the lounge this week as well as working 2 jobs. I feel very slovenly next to him.

Mythreefavouritethings · 14/08/2022 21:34

Nope, salad and simple things for dinner and cleaning up any new spillages. Have done the laundry as, as others have said, it dries quickly, but definitely no hoovering this week. Anything I am doing I time just before a twice daily cold shower, before putting on (sealed in freezer bags) undies and nightwear from the freezer and spraying icy water over myself. Urgh.

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2022 21:36

Leave it until it cools down!
Just the basics , the rest can wait a while

Puppypads · 14/08/2022 21:37

My robot hoover has been doing Gods work so I haven't needed to do the floors but I have been washing like a fiend, as everything dries so quickly in this heat! Cooking though, ugh. I had to have the oven on for 20 mins later, kitchen was sweltering 🥵
I also had to tidy the front garden- I nearly melted. Can't wait for the weather to break, we're all grumpy and the dog is a floppy heap on the floor!

DinosaursEatMan · 14/08/2022 21:38

My house is an utter tip and the ironing pile has had to be split into two because it was about to fall over. We’ve put un-ironed sheets on the bed this weekend (which I hate) because I just can’t face it. Hopefully the promised cooler weather is on the way.

whoruntheworldgirls · 14/08/2022 21:39

I've done laundry, cooked, picked and washed fruit from the garden, wiped down the kitchen and done some dishes, mopping is easy as i have a battery power mop so all i do is glide it round, that's for tomorrow when my daughter is at holiday club and can't make a mess!
I'm very lucky i have cleaners so i don't have to do much, i felt bad for them this week so had all my fans out for them to try and help.

Judelawswife68 · 14/08/2022 21:39

Usual amount. We do have a robot vacuum cleaner which mops too. Am not a fan of the sun (massively ageing) so am not sitting in the garden baking myself.
