Housework in this heat

Do you do it because I literally can't do it in this heat?! My house is a tip...there's loads to do but the most I can cope with is loading and unloading the dishwasher. Even then I collapse in a sweaty heap afterwards.

Anyone else living in a pig sty due to the heat?

I've carried on, but my DC have left home now so hardly any mess. My house is also not too hot as it's pitch black with all the blinds down, and whilst I might not feel like cleaning out the bedroom cupboards I am on top of everything else.

prettyteapotsplease · 15/08/2022 08:59

Too right Comedy it's too damn hot to move. I should have swept the bathroom (dust bunnies in full sight) carpet needs a vac, etc, etc. I just can't be bothered. There must be at least two weeks worth of ironing piled up but so what?

I'm doing the absolute minimum of preparing simple meals and washing up afterwards, nothing else.

I bit the bullet and did mine yesterday because it was a fraction cooler than Saturday but my god did I sweat. It was a shit pit though so I couldn't leave it any longer! It took all my gumption though and it was like working in a bloody furnace!

Same but I am also intentionally letting the laundry pile up because of the serious lack of water in the SE. I am surprised how many people say they are doing tons of laundry - I hope you are either in rainier regions or you are the ones who get the standpipes!

The new chore I have is collecting the greywater buckets from the bathroom and kitchen and chucking them on the garden at dusk. Feels good to be doing something at least.

RainyDays22 · 15/08/2022 09:09

I've done the bare minimum. It's suppose to thunder storm this afternoon so hoping it clears the air, I really need to get on top of it.

fizzyfood · 15/08/2022 09:12

Cleaner here, been a difficult week, I think I nearly melted at one point Grin

These threads are seriously depressing…are there no men that do housework and mither about it as much as MN posters?

Ladies - big tip for you - if you have a partner the ‘housework’ is not ALL your responsibility.

The drought conditions will last months

Most people can't put their laundry off that long

It won't make any difference to the water situation if you wash after this rain -- unless you wash in a fresh rain water tub outside ?

@UWhatNow I'm divorced. Partly because exh was a lazy fucker to be fair. I have no less work to do now than when I was married, in fact probably less as I'm not tidying up his shite.
But there is no 'man' to pull his weight here

Thatsplentyjack · 15/08/2022 09:18

I surprised myself the other day and did loads. Was cleaning carpets by hand and scrubbing couches (never do these things, just got carried away) I was exhausted after, but most of the time no, I just can't be arsed but it has to be done so I do it.

ApplesandBunions · 15/08/2022 09:23

I did do washing because it was too good an opportunity not to, everything dried so quick, but otherwise the bare minimum. Too hot!

Bluebellbike · 15/08/2022 09:32

It's raining here. The temperature has dropped too. I am pleased, but no excuse for leaving the cleaning now.

elliejjtiny · 15/08/2022 11:22

It's been a nightmare. I'm moving house in 2 weeks, not my choice, and I'm really struggling. I've resorted to putting damp socks in the freezer for a couple of hours and wearing one pair and stuffing the other down my bra. Thank goodness it's a bit cooler today. Still hot but at least I haven't got sweat pouring out of my eyeballs! I'm relieved other people were feeling like this, I thought I was starting the menopause.

Playplayaway · 15/08/2022 11:31

I'm changing the beds today for the first time in 2.5 weeks. Lots of sweaty minging sheets.
It's still warm in my house, it will hold on to the heat for days, but there's a breeze and garden feels lovely now in the shade. Praying for rain soon.

Nope. Don't live with my partner although he did actually pitch in with some hoovering which was helpful. I did get my three teens involved though.

abovedecknotbelow · 15/08/2022 12:56

My washing basket is empty for the first time in months as can actually get it all dry, including two weeks worth of holiday washing.

Food has been BBQ and salads since we got back last week, my kitchen is hot enough at the best of times, I'm not using the oven.

General cleaning as usual as our house (apart from aforementioned kitchen) is quite cool.

spiderlight · 15/08/2022 12:59

I blitzed our house yesterday because DS's girlfriend was coming round for the first time. Hoovered, dusted, tidied, deep-cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, nearly effing died in the process, and then she didn't come because of the train strike!!

Comedycook · 15/08/2022 14:21

I think the poster was suggesting that it's sensible to wait until you have a full load... rather than washing smaller amounts...

Ah - I do that all the time anyway
