Housework in this heat

Comedycook · 14/08/2022 19:50

Do you do it because I literally can't do it in this heat?! My house is a tip...there's loads to do but the most I can cope with is loading and unloading the dishwasher. Even then I collapse in a sweaty heap afterwards.

Anyone else living in a pig sty due to the heat?

Have done everything but the kitchen and it’s floor, just couldn’t do that !

ShitPuffin · 14/08/2022 21:41

Oh my god, my home is the messiest and dirtiest its ever been (which admittedly is not as bad as it sounds) because I just cannot be arsed to clean in this bastard heat. I’m going to have to do it tomorrow though.

KangarooKenny · 14/08/2022 21:42

And I did a clinic last week in full uniform and mask. One third of expected people DNA’d 😡

Twawmyarse · 14/08/2022 21:43

Apart from laundry, a quick sweep round and squirting bleach down the loos I've done nothing all week.

Dcs have had a combination of takeouts, toasties and pasta for their dinners and I've just had a bag of prawn cocktail crisps and an ice cream for mine as I can't face anything else!

BotterMon · 14/08/2022 21:44

Stables are pristine, chickens cleaned out and have a lovely sparkly coop. House is a shithole.

Par for the course here. Being out of the house for 12 hours a day during the week means I don't really see it.

Luckily I don't iron anything - the joys of having a dryer. If I fold up or hang clothes when they're warm they don't need ironing and who actually irons their bedding?!?

EmmiJay · 14/08/2022 21:46

Nope! I think my need for cleanliness trumps any heatwave! I did the mopping, dusting, hoovering, laundry, ironing, wares and cooked. I just had a lovely hot soapy shower after😅

Twawmyarse · 14/08/2022 21:46

It's actually so reassuring to read this thread as I feel like a right lazy cow! 😂

Branster · 14/08/2022 21:47

I've been doing as much as possible as early as possible throughout the week. And some other jobs before sunset in the shady parts of the house.
Anything done between 11:00-17:00 has been done at a slow pace with lots of breaks.
Salads of every imaginable type and cooking on bbq only. Can't be doing with having the oven on in this weather.
Ironing will have to wait though - currently shoved in the ironing cupboard because even looking at it makes me feel sweaty!

VeniVidiWeeWee · 14/08/2022 22:22

FFS

I've just done a 7 hour shift moving trollies at Tesco.

I suspect some people have done shifts as police officers wearing stab proof vests.

And various other jobs.

But you're too exhausted to run a vacuum cleaner.

Grow up.

BakewellGin1 · 14/08/2022 22:34

Nope if anything I'm opposite extreme.

Every bedroom has had bedding, curtains and cushions washed and dried.

All washing is done and basket empty.

Wardrobes all cleared, organised and few bags dropped at charity shops.

Mainly between 6am and 9am as days have been spent at the beach. Meaning the car now needs a good clean..

WeAreTheHeroes · 14/08/2022 22:38

I've put all the bedding through the wash, cleaned the bathrooms and dusted and hoovered everywhere. It was hard work mid afternoon and a bit sweaty, I'm not going to lie.

blacksax · 14/08/2022 22:43

I have gleefully done fuck all this weekend.

DinosaursEatMan · 14/08/2022 22:47

I spent this afternoon paddling in a stream with DS, sod the housework.

100problems · 14/08/2022 22:51

Did mine by 8am, walked the hound, then spent a blissful day on my lounger #its the dream

Same here. I have no energy. Desperate for cool rain.

Who are these people that iron sheets and have big piles of clothes waiting to be ironed, just hang it up iron it if and when needed or leave it in wardrobe never to be worn again whilst you only wear the stuff that doesn't need ironing

TheChosenTwo · 14/08/2022 23:49

I’ve been getting up early to tackle the majority of the daily stuff and once it’s done that’s it.
dh is doing the cooking on the bbq as can’t bare to have the oven on.
Our lovely cleaner came this week, I told her to do what she could in the time and to not worry if that was only half of what she would normally do, left her ice creams in the freezer.
She’s basically wonder woman.

TheChosenTwo · 14/08/2022 23:53

And I don’t iron anything, ever! Things get hung to dry and then hung straight up 😂
My mum used to have an ironing pile that she used to huff and puff about, she was a martyr to that bloody thing!

lovehawaii · 15/08/2022 07:12

i did clean oven and other appliances deep clean yesterday in the morning while walking half naked. Then my husband was giving the looks of jumping into bed. FFS sun made me to roam like that not you 🙄

35965a · 15/08/2022 07:16

I’ve been doing the bare minimum, hoover in the morning, dishwasher and washing machine on first thing. All I do during the day is wipe down the kitchen and empty the dishwasher. I haven’t even been cooking, a couple of days we did a snacky dinner and another couple it was takeaways which is not good! I just couldn’t face it.

The dc have dragged so many toys downstairs and I just can’t be arsed sorting them when it’s so hot. Luckily today looks to be a bit cooler. Tomorrow looks even more cool so I’ll do a big ‘proper tidy’ then and I can’t wait.

SmileyClare · 15/08/2022 07:21

The heat doesn't affect me too badly. I'm a cleaner and do two houses a day; cleaning for 6 hours a day. I just put my wet hair in a bun and get used to sweating.

I think it helps that I'm very small and quite fit. It's more tiring though. My kitchen floor has been neglected.

I'm a bit Hmm about people "collapsing" after unloading a dishwasher.

MrsJBaptiste · 15/08/2022 07:21

Totally agree @VeniVidiWeeWee

I can't cook as it's just soooo hot...
The house needs cleaning but I can't do it as I'm toooo hot...
I just need to lie down alllll day due to the heat...

Life still goes on in the sun!

RewildingAmbridge · 15/08/2022 07:27

Cleaned the house top to bottom Friday, have done five loads of washing over the weekend including bedding and all the sofa cushion covers, it's drying in less than an hour per load. Took ds to the cinema yesterday and to see my parents, and swimming Sunday morning. I get it's warm, I'm in the South, but people are out working in it. Surely unloading the dishwasher isn't a collapse inducing task!!
DH dug a hole and cemented in the new washing line post yesterday and cut the grass, he just got up and did it around 8 yesterday morning. If you don't like the heat either do it in the morning or in the evening when the temperature drops a bit.
Also is only been hot for a few days, how is your house a pig sty in that time?

Sunnysal · 15/08/2022 08:16

I've been living with these temperatures since June, admittedly by choice. The only way to do anything is get up early and do as much as possible while it is cool. I flit around in a nighty then have a shower and watch telly/read etc until evening when I might do a bit more. On the 40deg days I just rest!!

SmileyClare · 15/08/2022 08:49

It's sensible to slow down in the heat and take measures to cool down. However, feeling incapable of basic tasks is either psychological or a big wake up call to improve your health and fitness levels.

There is a condition called heat intolerance (extreme fatigue, muscle cramps, nausea, temporary vision loss) caused by some medications or an underlying issue such as hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure or an autoimmune disease.

It might be worth considering a check up or taking measures to improve your own health if your body is failing to regulate its temperature.

I'm aware I probably sound like a sanctimonious arse by saying this Grin
