Why are the all kids wearing Nirvana t shirts?

I'm seeing them everywhere, usually in bright pink and purple and acid colours. Are the kids listening to Nirvana now or do they think it's the name of a fashion brand?

I loved take that when I was a young teen but I don’t think they were ‘cool’ even then!

Dd asked me if I know any Beatles songs. I'm mid 50's so yeah, I can name one or two 😆

As a teen in the mid 80s I listened to my parents old Beatles andRolling Stones LPs (and TRex, cool dad) as if I'd just discovered them. A generation later, the next generation is listening to "my" music. ''Twas always thus, now made easier with music streaming and fast fashion.

My DD10 has a Nirvana T shirt that DH found in a charity shop. I made her listen to the music in the car and doesn’t actually like them. She’s memorised a couple of song names though just in case someone “tests” her.

Always been a thing really, retro band tshirts as fashion. In the early 2000s it was the yellow sex pistols t-shirt.

Teens are split musically where I teach. Those that like rap/grime etc, those that like chart music and those that are in to 90s stuff - Nirvana, Oasis, Stereophonics, Pearl Jam and then more modern indie stuff like the Kooks and the courteners

It's just the same as the rolling stones t shirt isn't it ? Also Nirvana is seen as Retro 😳

DD14 has one and she is a fan. No wonder, modern music is rubbish bar a few exceptions.

My eldest will ‘test’ the youngest if she dares to wear anything with a band on it! She has a nirvana t shirt from many years ago that he mocks her for wearing as she doesn’t know any of their songs.

She also had an old metal band, can’t remember AC/DC or something, who she definitely wouldn’t listen to!

Eldest is in a band so knows all the old stuff and is one of those “gate keeper” types who thinks you shouldn’t be allowed to wear a t shirt unless you like the music, but I tend to think if you like the logo or design of a t shirt then just wear it.

Yes 90’s indie bands are back.

Best one is H&M selling Grateful Dead merch to teens as though they weren’t a walking, talking (singing) advertisement for hallucinogenics & heroin back in the 60/70s 😂 but it’s fine cos H&M have made it tie-dye and used teddy bears on the graphics!

General 90s revival continues - shops are full of cargo pants again as well! 😅

I think Stranger Things and the like are part of it. It's brought all the 80's/90's back in to being seen as cool.

My 2 kids now think I had a great childhood 😂

Ds is 5 and loves nirvana.

My 10yo recently asked me if I'd ever heard of this amazing band he'd just discovered, its called Nirvana... 🙄He's also into 80s metal bands. It's like living with my brother in his teens all over again.

I think a PP has it right, it's a lot easier for them to discover older music these days, and there's less taint of social death from liking older stuff as there would have been in my day.

nirvana t shirts have been around for about two years now in H&M and the like — I love seeing them ❤️❤️

Boohoo recently released a lot of colourful band merch.
The t-shirts look cool and all the kids wear them with only a handful actually being genuine fans of the music.

It used to annoy me when I was younger because I got so badly bullied for being a “grunger” in school and then saw some of my bullies wearing band tees and alt fashion in college because it became the trend.

Well you only have to look at Stranger Things and the Kate Bush song.

I have seen them in Primark, H&M…

There’s a possibility some have discovered more ‘retro’ music after looking up music used in Stranger Things and fallen down a rabbit hole, more likely they just like the designs.

Play her the acoustic version of Jeremy and if she dares not to like it you need to pack her bags.
