Why are the all kids wearing Nirvana t shirts?

I'm seeing them everywhere, usually in bright pink and purple and acid colours. Are the kids listening to Nirvana now or do they think it's the name of a fashion brand?

I'm not arguing with you. I just think your friend is a prat. And a music snob who should open their mind more, rather than looking down on people.

You were arguing a little to be fair,

General 90s revival continues - shops are full of cargo pants again as well! 😅

Hooray for pockets making a return!

Having been back at uni for the last few years, the looks of the ultra-high maintenance girls on the course when I describe the process of "dressing up to go out" as a grunge teen were hilariously envious... no contouring, no angst about eyebrows - DMs on, band t-shirt, checked lumberjack shirt and go.

tigger1001 · 11/08/2022 12:59

"Absolutely this.

I love rock/metal/punk/ska and the amount of men who will sniggeringly ask me ‘what’s your favourite song/album then?’ if I’m wearing a band T-shirt as though women can’t enjoy anything other than pop music does my tits in.

Music is for everyone, so many snobby idiots who want to gatekeep stuff because they think they’re cool. Who cares if you liked Kate Bush before Stranger Things, she got to number 1! If you really liked KB you’d be happy for hear and her music revival. "

@PortPatrol me too. Have always been into rock/metal and also really love some punk and ska

I have never got why some feel the need to question others on music other than to look down on them.

I have a really eclectic taste in music and it really often depends on my mood what I listen to.

I can't say I've noticed it with kids, but presumably the parents are buying them those clothes in many cases. I find it so cringe when adults wear band shirts without actually being fans. My guilt pleasure is American reality TV and one of the "stars" - Candiace - was on Andy Cohens talk show, wearing a Nirvana t-shirt. During the caller questions segment someone asked Candiace to name 3 Nirvana songs. She literally had no idea what they were talking about until Andy pointed out it was the name on her shirt. After some serious squirming, she said something like, "no, but if you played a song I'd know the tune". It watched that clip so many times because it was so cringeworthy and hilarious. What a tool.

Any kids discovered Erasure???

Any kids discovered Erasure???

I should hope so. Has anyone's day not being improved by listening to a little Erasure. No one could write a pop song like they could.

tigger1001 · 11/08/2022 13:03

@SizzlerFizzler fair enough if you want to take it that way.

But really just pointing out these who do the whole "name an album...." are not as knowledgeable as they think they are and are just coming across as idiots.

Any kids discovered Erasure???

My teen was listening to erasure the other day. He'd heard a song while at work and then listened to them when he came home

SizzlerFizzler · 11/08/2022 13:04

Yes, we've covered that now, @tigger1001. Thanks!

KatherineJaneway · 11/08/2022 13:08

And Paul McCartney is old!

🙄It isn't that he was 'old' it was that she had no idea he was a Beatle

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/08/2022 13:11

not a youngster but I have been listening again lately.

the foo fighters have a big Wembley tribute to Taylor Hawkings, so that might have sparked an interest in their background and Nirvana.

By wearing a band t shirt you do run the risk of others wanting to discuss said band with you. Especially big fans.

Re Erasure, i wasn't a huge fan the first time around.

I wondered that too. Not even teenagers. Plus babies in band t shirts. Confused

My eldest was gifted a Motorhead babygro as a baby. Didn't even realise that it was a thing back then either.

Don'tcallthepolice · 11/08/2022 13:55

My daughter 12 begged me to buy her one from Primark but when I played Teen Spirit in the car on the way home said she hated it! 😁

Could have been worse-could have had the matching dummy! Confused

The yoofs in my life only listen to 80s and 90s music and have the t-shirts to match.
I'd like to claim is as some sort of parenting achievement that they have such good taste in music but they'd never admit to liking any of our stuff

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/08/2022 14:07

They must know a bit about the band though - otherwise Urban Outfitters could do a run of Bay City Rollers/The Osmonds/Wham! t-shirts and they'd all be wearing those.

Disclaimer - I have a Wham t-shirt and I luffs it!

Sparklingbrook · 11/08/2022 14:09

My DC like loads of different music but don't want to wear t shirts announcing it. I wore band t shirts back in the day but would feel like the oldest swinger in town if I wore one now. Grin

Good grief 😂

Back in my day it was considered poor form to wear a band t shirt if you didn't actually own one of their albums

LadyCatStark · 11/08/2022 14:22

DS is at that teenage stage where he lives in hoodies and he has a Nirvana one. He does listen to them, there’s a whole world of music available to them thanks to Spotify and the likes. He has a much more eclectic taste than we used to have as teenagers.

the little kids will be wearing them as they’re their parents favourite bands.

Cocolapew · 11/08/2022 14:24

I was wearing a Blondie tshirt once, it was from Next. There was a group of teens near me, one was wearing the same tshirt. She kept glaring at me and I heard her say that I probably didnt even know who Blondie was 🙄

Damnautocorrect · 11/08/2022 14:33

Heardle is brilliant for chatting with your teens about music and getting them into different stuff.

  • it’s like wordle but for songs, where it plays one second and you have to guess what it is.

Yes and back in the day you would buy the 'official merch' at the concert or mail order from the fan club you couldn't get it anywhere else, and the money went to the band.
