New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

I think people are going to have a problem with energy companies raising DD above what's necessary.

I'm with OVO and they've sent a great email explaining what's going on and how they are working with government.

However they increased by DD when last price cap rose and I've not used that amount at all. I'm predicted to use less this year than previous years (because of covid) and they've set a minimum I can increase my dd to. It's 80% above what I currently pay and not what I currently use price wise. And it doesn't take into account the rebate of £66 a month.

I've decided to leave it and pay a little extra via the app but I'm afraid they'll just automatically increase it and again - they have my money sat in their accounts when it could and should be in mine!

If they do that and won't put it back then I'll be claiming it back every single time!

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2022 21:01

Itsgettingweird you've reminded me to double check our DD and keep an eye on it.

54 - I think we are quite impotent. There may be protests in the future but I suspect most (including me) are sitting back, waiting & worrying.

I've just read a rubbish comment piece in tomorrow's Times by Paul Goodman which finished with the suggestion that Lord Frost may become an MP and then presumably PM. I can't even be bothered to link to it. Delusional.

Blossomtoes · 29/08/2022 21:21

the suggestion that Lord Frost may become an MP and then presumably PM

Who the fuck do they think would vote for him?

Can members of the Lords even stand for election? 😂

Notonthestairs · 29/08/2022 21:50

Yes he could resign/retire from HoL and his all important peerage would continue.

Oh dear 😱

On another thread about whether scaremongering was going on and (sensible) posters were saying "this is not sustainable" I asked "to those who say 'this is not sustainable' what next? What do you think will happen?" but I didn't see any replies. And then I got fed up with trawling thorough all the other posts.

Any people on here any thoughts on what will give?

Yes it was. I'd don't have jgw's flair Grin

Not at all shocked by Truss pulling out. She's never handled 1-2-1 interviews well (I don't count hustings) and I'm sure they are worried that she won't connect with the electorate.

Shame though as it would be nice to have at least seen something more than the drivel they've put out to members.
Nick Robinson was involved in Young conservatives in Cheshire. He was Chairman of Oxford University Conservative Association. I imagine the BBC thought was he was a safe pair of hands to offer up.

I wonder how she'll handle leaders' debates when the election campaign comes around? Or indeed whether she'll discover she's too busy for those as well?

I find it beyond pathetic she won't face Nick Robinson in a one to one interview. She doesn't have the answers, she knows it, we know it.
Facts and figures in the article she's that Sunak has done 9 broadcast interviews,. Truss just 2.
I cannot believe she is likely to become our next PM. It's like a bad dream

That's why she's going to be out next PM. It helpfully leaves everything to interpretation. A bit like everyone has a different version of what they thought Brexit would be. Why give a straight answer that raises expectations, especially when you have a history full of contradictions, much better to let the current disciples spin lines out and see what lands.

Leaders debates, PMQs she'll rely on stock phrases regardless of the question.

A little bit of positivity

Winter market gas prices for UK has fallen significantly this morning, as markets begin to contemplate that European/ German success in filling significant stores of gas…

So some hope that this was the peak, BUT still much higher than the peak at beginning of the invasion…

To counteract that, more tax payer's money wasted

Boris Johnson will kick off a farewell tour of Britain today as he spends his last week as prime minister highlighting his achievements in 10 Downing Street

Well that should be at least cheap - that list shouldn’t take more than ten minutes (allowing for bluster).

  • the vaccines he personally invented and distributed (🙄)
  • brexit - ‘done’ apparently. Won’t talk about it too long in case rouge traders turns up
  • how much him and Zelensky love each other
Blossomtoes · 30/08/2022 11:32

I hope he gets egged everywhere he goes. Or at least booed. Loudly.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2022 11:37

Tour of Britain? So he's going to Wales & Scotland is he? What about NI?

How do we book tickets for his gigs?

I do always enjoy a farewell tour.

Can you let me know if you find out. I would love to come along and chant something appropriate 😂

Novum · 30/08/2022 14:17

I want to go and ask him why he's pratting around on a taxpayer-funded tour when he's being paid to do the work of a Prime Minister and is singularly failing.

Notonthestairs · 30/08/2022 14:28

Johnson out & about providing people with a sense of hope or something...

"But (hold onto your hats) Boris Johnson fails to rule out a political comeback...

Asked directly if he would rule it out, he says: "I think on the whole people in this country are more interested in their gigabit broadband than they are in the fate of this or that politician".

He can't bring himself to just say no.

tobee · 30/08/2022 15:00

I thought he'd been doing a farewell tour of Britain for weeks? Who does he think he is Frank Fucking Sinatra?

Also, did I wake up today to see Liz Truss hasn't got a plan? Or was it just a fever dream?

Great British (Voting) Public:-

WE DO NOT TRUST NONE OF THEM.

Sad fact is that we don't.

Not only have the Tory party destroyed the publications trust in them they actually managed to destroy most peoples trust in politics and the government.

Hence the line we hear so often about them all being as bad as each other.

Other parties won't get a chance currently because people think better the devil you know however bad that devil is.

He has already been in Govt and in opposition.

IF he ever became Labour leader, the media would do a number on him and then we'd all be shouting for another A lister.
