New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Something untoward about that info. Are we supposed to believe that Mim Davies doesn't have a constituency office? A PA? Doesn't use paper, envelopes, stamps, pens?

It appears to be incorrect anyway.

What exactly are the Tories up too? Boris Johnson is hovering . Ofgen executive is on tv this morning hinting about some "help". Why should we be grateful for £400 (round £33 pm) , which is going straight back into your energy account which then goes back to the energy companies.

They will announce something the minute Truss or Sunak is installed and try and "spin" it as "see how we are looking after you ?" The energy companies should not be allowed to make as many billions as has been made. Of course they need to make a profit, they are businesses who employ thousands of people. Like everything the Tories touch, the greed is excessive and takes from ordinary people. They love money so much and hate poor people so much. I cannot bear what they are doing . We are a great nation and these people need to stop now.

My dh is a ' tory ' ( I know ;(
and even he remarked that it'll be doom and gloom and then someone will come along and do something once the new leader is installed.
He is hoping this will be the case.
It's a cyclical ploy , but I guess it's how it'll go

The video of Steve Barclay heartened me.

Someone who perhaps would not be in my echo chamber articulating better than I could the problem.

Roussette · 26/08/2022 19:55

I laughed at the Steve Barclay vid. He's new to all of this, he's been behind the scenes up until now.

Then a great woman just tackles him, and what can he say... not a lot!

newnamethanks · 26/08/2022 20:04

Hurrah for That Woman. Well said, her. Reminded me of Brenda from Bristol.

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 20:21

I feel a feeling of dread when I see the very urbane Mr Barclay on the tele. That lady was brilliant.
He looks about as useful as a chocolate teapot tbh. It must be one of the worst jobs to have at the moment though. :(
Although after what has sadly happened to a few MPs I'm surprised they do these outside broadcasts without any security around as she could have easily had a knife or worse and she did get quite close to him.
I wouldn't want to be a MP at the moment.

My kids and I love Brenda from Bristol, wish we could do gifs on here, I use it a lot!

So Labour are saying they would (and will argue for) freezing energy bills in a plan they’ve costed out. Is this going to be rebranded and offered up as our saviour when the new PM parks their backside on the imprint of the last one from downing st?

And then the usual suspects will come round on here saying well I might vote Labour, but they don't have any policies...

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 20:51

I think they will just ' rebrand ' the Labour ideas myself as well.
Then tell us it's not what it looks like.
Smoke and mirrors. (Or maybe just the mirrors as the smoke bit will cost a lot of money. )

borntobequiet · 26/08/2022 20:54

I think Barclay is and has been quietly positioning himself for the leadership once the shenanigans are over and Truss has crashed and burned, having (in her words) hit the ground.
That video shows he’s not quite up to the job yet! Boris TBF would have blustered and waffled meaninglessly but sufficiently enough to satisfy his devotees.

the80sweregreat · 26/08/2022 20:58

Barclay is another smooth one. He reminds me of Raab.

tobee · 26/08/2022 23:48

So the Daily Express front page headlines are :-

BORIS: 'PIPELINE
OF CASH
ON WAY"

But when you read the detail it says:-

The Prime Minister
confidently predicted
his successor will pro-
vide more support, as
regulator Ofgem con-
firmed an 80 per cent
price cap rise

So only a prediction of what Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak might do as PM.

countrygirl99 · 27/08/2022 04:04

Barclay is my parents MP. The words chocolate and teapot come to mind. Even my very Tory brother thinks he is useless and he has had quite a lot to do with him professionally.

Roussette · 27/08/2022 07:53

This is pure speculation but still.... losing Patel with her replacement being Braverman, any gain? Don't think so.

"The Home Secretary does not currently figure in Ms Truss’s plans for government, along with another nine of the Conservative Party’s most senior figures.
Dominic Raab, the Deputy Prime Minister, will also be exiled to the back benches, and there will be no roles for, among others, Steve Barclay, the Health Secretary; George Eustice, the Environment Secretary; and Mark Spencer, Leader of the House of Commons. Rishi Sunak and Michael Gove will not be invited back into the Cabinet, and Grant Shapps’s job as Transport Secretary is in jeopardy.
In total, 15 ministers - half of the current Cabinet - could be sacked by Ms Truss in a clear-out that will make way for loyal supporters and rising stars including Kemi Badenoch, her former leadership rival.
Ms Truss is also trying to persuade Lord Frost, the former Brexit negotiator, to return to government as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster - although the role would be slimmed down from the one previously occupied by Michael Gove, and it is unclear whether the peer will accept."

Roussette · 27/08/2022 07:54

Sorry... meant to say, further down the article Suella Braverman is tipped to take Home Sec post

Notonthestairs · 27/08/2022 10:42

"Lord Frost, the former Brexit negotiator, to return to government as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster"

I thought he didn't like unelected bureaucrats.

He has zero integrity and will change his mind to suit who he is colluding with that day. Bit like Truss but not as bright.
I suppose he'll fit right in.

Fladdermus · 27/08/2022 10:53

Seeing the smirk on Barclay's face as 'Brenda' walked away made me want to reach through my tv screen and smack him. Yet another arrogant tosspot.

Cornettoninja · 27/08/2022 10:53

Sorry for dragging down the tone but apparently BJ has commented to Vanessa Feltz on her departure from radio 2 that he ’hopes no sinister forces have conspired to force you to step down from your crucial position in our national life’ (According to the DM - reading so you don’t have to!)

He really wants his own Qanon doesn’t he? It would be hilarious if he became an Alex Jone’s type podcaster.
