What things horrify and fascinate you at the same time?

I'm petrified of oceans and seas - deep waters in general. But I'm also completely obsessed with it too; I'll watch anything to do with marine life, oceans, sharks (😱) even though it scares the shit out of me. I live on the coast and love it, but jeez-oh it scares me.

Ships out of water- can't bear to look, or look away.

True crime. I seek it out as it's fascinating, but can be so utterly grim.

Same - especially sharks.

Same with bear attacks. Your title of horrified and fascinated at the same time is an accurate description.

Crocodiles and alligators, absolutely beautiful and fascinating but terrifying too! I love movies where people get stalked/terrorised/eaten by them but obviously horrified when it happens in real life.

A load of influencers.

Childbirth. I've had two kids and I still can't wrap my head around the amazing-ness that something so big can come out of a hole so small?! And that you go into hospital as one person and come out as two. But also, how messy, painful and loud it can be!

Shipwrecks too. I find them so sad frightening, but am totally fascinated by them at the same time.

Pylons. Sounds weird, I know. Suddenly developed an aversion to them but find them fascinating especially when near people's houses

@Picklypickles there’s a director who specialises in movies to do with shark attacks/ crocodile attacks. Sounds mad I know but they’re great films! He did an amazing one called The Reef that was so sad, and one called Dark Water about a crocodile attack. I guess they’re like natural disaster films. My husband thinks I’m mad.

The pile of dead skin that comes off my feet after a good session with a Microplane foot file. It's disgusting and satisfying at the same time.

Sinkholes. They petrify me but I google them all the time.

Enjoy! The Reef is such a great film. It’s hard to do shark films well because they invariably make the shark a massive unrealistic monster but this was so well done. Genuinely scary and really sad.

There’s a second Reef film out, I think but I’ve not seen it. Reviews have said the shark is CGI so doesn’t sound like it’s like the first one.

Yeah I think seeing the documentary about it that kind of kicked off the fascination. I know it sounds weird but it was like I wanted to understand the mechanics of an attack. That sounds so weird, I know! It’s so awful to think about but fascinating at the same time.

There’s a good bear attack film about a couple that go camping in Canada at the end of the summer season and get lost. I can’t remember what it’s called but @Picklypickles might also like it!

Im sure I’m coming across like such a weirdo. Whenever there’s a slight mention of an animal attack, DH is like 🙄🙄🙄

We were watching a surfing documentary and one competition was called off because a poor surfer ( not in the competition) was killed by a shark earlier in the day. It was so sad and horrifying but DH was also like “oh here we go…” and looking at me.

Wind turbines. I can't look away from them but hate the way that they look as though they are turning so slowly and yet the tips of the blades whip round.
